Middle Stone Farm Amenities

Glamping doesn’t come more glam than the amazing safari lodges at the award winning, Middle Stone Farm in Somerset, plus there are two holiday cottages which are brimming with cosy, contemporary charm too.

Although, Technically families will be sleeping under canvas in the 2/3-bedroom lodges but these are a world away from any tent, being fully furnished and featuring an insulated wooden floor, a wood-burning range cooker, partitioned bedrooms and an ensuite shower with a flushing loo. Add to this, electric lights and sockets for charging mobiles or iPads and even the most reluctant campers will be perfectly happy, especially watching sunsets over the rolling countryside from the lodge’s big decked veranda. For children, of course, the lodges are cool as cool can be, from the hidey-hole cabin bed that makes the perfect den, to spilling outside to play in the 3-acre field with a climbing tower and slide.

There might not be wild animals roaming around the safari lodges but there could be a free-ranging chicken or two from the 100-strong flock and little ones will also love meeting other animals including alpacas, rare breed sheep and pigs, geese, a dog and a tortoise! Owners of the farm, Patrick and Catherine, moved here to realise their dream of living a sustainable lifestyle and are passionate about growing and rearing their own food, some of which is available at their new onsite farm shop, along with other local, artisan produce.

Besides the safari lodges, the couple have converted a stable into a lovely 2-bedroom cottage and created a 2-bedroom Deckhouse cabin, which both have airy, open-plan living areas with high beamed-ceilings and wood-burning stoves. The Cottage and the Cabin have been furnished and finished to the highest standards, with all mod cons and cosy home comforts, and boxes of toys are provided for children, along with practical baby and toddler essentials.

Accommodation overview
Middle Stone Farm comprises of six large, ‘glamping’ Safari Lodges (6+ baby although one sleeps 8+ a baby), The Cottage (4+baby) and The Deckhouse (4+baby).

The Cottage was originally a stable, adjacent to the farmhouse, that has been lovingly converted into a smart, 2-bedroom holiday home for a family of four plus a baby. The living area and dining kitchen is open plan, with high beamed ceiling, flagstone floors and comfy, contemporary furnishings, plus the cottage has central heating throughout. At one end of the living area, families can snuggle into a pair of sofas by a wood burning stove to play with the toys provided or watch DVD’s on the large flatscreen TV. At the other side of the room, the fitted kitchen includes an electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, essential utensils and children’s crockery etc. and a dining table that seats 4 people, plus a high chair is available. The cottage has two bedrooms, which both have space for a travel cot that can be provided – one with a king size wrought iron bed and the other with twin single beds. A spacious modern shower room has bold mosaic tiling and chunky timber panelling, a walk-in shower, washbasin and wc. The cottage has a small garden with a patio table and barbecue.

A wood fired hot tub is available on request. It costs between £60-£100 to hire for a 1-7 night stay.

  • We loved the cottage. It had everything we needed for 3 adults and a toddler. The decor was very pretty and cottage-y, Beds were super comfy, it was warm and cosy with central heating and a wood burner. The kitchen was well equipped, the wi-fi worked well and it was peaceful and lovely. There was lots of hot water for the big shower. The farm shop was handy, with fresh farm eggs. It was so pleasant to wake up to the sound of the birds and animals. We did a few day trips and thoroughly enjoyed exploring Somerset. But there's still lots we didn't see so we would definitely come back. (We are from Canada). Thank you Catherine and Patrick!Review dated 31/10/2016

  • We had a lovely time at this beautiful, peaceful farm. The cottage was warm and cozy (we did have the wood burner on but there is also central heating) and the beds are super comfy. Lots of hot water for showers. The Wi-Fi worked great. We loved the animals, the farm shop was ideal, and Catherine and Patrick were friendly and helpful, but not intrusive, even though the cottage adjoins the main house. We took some day trips and discovered quintessential rural England (we live in Canada!). We would definitely come back. Have to go to Stonehenge next time ... and Bath .. .and so much more yet to see. Thank you!Review dated 31/10/2016
