Families seeking the perfect beach holiday can head to Le Grau-du-Roi, a quieter Mediterranean seaside holiday destination on the border between Languedoc and the Petit Comargue. In the area there is the opportunity for cycling, quad-biking and horse riding as well as the normal bucket and spade experience for the little ones. The area offers deserted beaches and tiny fishing villages, as well as the usual seaside resort experience with several excellent child friendly hotels on offer.
For something different, the family can enjoy a visit to the medieval village of St-Guilhem-le-Désert and visit the “Giant’s Castle” above the village, or head down to the world-famous Grotte de Clamouse, a series of amazing underground caves. Head to the Pont du Diable (Devil’s Bridge) at St-Jean-de-Fos, where the river opens out into a beautiful turquoise pool.
Take the family on the Train Jaune to visit the Gorges de Caranca at Thuès, with its fascinating complex of narrow walkways and suspension bridges, hung above breathtaking drops. This might be more suitable for older children.
Whatever you choose, Languedoc-Rousillion has plenty to offer for the family on holiday in France.
