Top of any list of family-friendly things to do with kids in the Lake District has to be The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness-on-Windermere. It also makes a great wet weather retreat with a great café serving kids afternoon teas.
Rain or shine, a family-friendly boat trip is always fun. The Ullswater Steamers offer indoor and outdoor seating and has a lovely trip to the very impressive Aria Falls – best attempted with baby carriers as the walk from the pier to the falls is a bit arduous on little legs.
Animal attractions always have great appeal for families with toddlers and the South Lakes Safari Zoo has massive enclosures and allows guests to interact with many of them, apart from the big cats! Visitors young and old can even hand-feed giraffes and kangaroos. There’s also a toddler-friendly adventure playground. For fishy fans, the Lakes Aquarium near Newby Bridge offers a fabulous insight into what inhabits the Lakes and little ones never tire of toddling through the underwater tunnel with fish and ducks floating above them
