Not that I am jealous of Harry and Meghan and their ultra glam and romantic babymoon or anything, but what do you do if you already have one or two tots in tow and are about to pop out (optimistic as ever!) another? How about a family-friendly babymoon?
I am a firm believer that a pre-baby bonding break is an essential requirement of modern family life …budget permitting. After all, there’s not just a partner, but an existing child or two who will benefit from some serious ‘love-bombing’ before adopting a new big brother or sister role. So I have put together this little round-up of what I think are some of the best family-friendly babymoons in the UK and overseas to cram in some pre-baby family bonding…
Since this family babymoon is as much about pre-baby bonding with your partner as it is about ensuring your existing child/children feel secure, I reckon choosing a location that combines a bit of parental pampering time, with some supervised activities for little ones is the way to go.
Staying in the UK allows for minimum travel and maximum bonding especially if it is somewhere that offers supervised activities for kids as well as a bit of parental pamering. A mini break at the fantastically family-friendly Bedruthan Steps hotel in Cornwall, which boasts both a creche/kids club with a spa. Or if a cottage holiday is more your style, consider Clydey Cottages in Pembrokeshire, where there are two afternoons a week of supervised activities for the kids and plenty of opportunity to book into the onsite spa treatment room or simply chill in teh sauna, steam room, pool or hot tub. Both these options offer pre-school families the benefits of a host of baby and toddler-friendly nursery kit, as well as play areas, toys, indoor heated pools and, at Clydey, a petting farm too.
Overseas, consider a stylish yet family friendly resort hotel such as Martinhal on Portugal’s Algarve coast, the Almyra in Cyprus or Domes of Elounda in Crete. All combine boutique hotel standard interior design with amazing child-friendly facilities including kids clubs, creches, play areas and a whole host of pre-bookable baby and toddler kit, from cots and highchairs to strollers, sterilisers and stairgates.
If something smaller and more independent is more your style, consider Country Kids, Chateau les Carrasses or Mas de Jouas in France. All offer daytime childcare sessions with opportunities for couple-bonding, whether that’s glamorous baby monitor-assisted bistro meals and drinks, or pre-packed champagne picnics. Plus each offers brilliant family-friendly accommodation options and handy baby kit.
