Lymerac Amenities

Lymerac Amenities

Surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields in the sleepy Charente countryside, this picturesque farmstead has been thoughtfully renovated and is now home to three charming gîtes along with the home of its owners, the friendly Stables family who've added many thoughtful touches to create an ideal setting for happy family holidays.

A real treat is the onsite children's pony trekking and lessons with a British Horse Society instructor. Guests can also get on a bike to explore, with small, medium and large mountain bikes, children’s bicycles, tricycle and baby seat all available at the cottage. Then again, there’s hardly the need to leave the 12 acres of grounds at all, with badminton, table tennis, croquet and petanque, plus an enclosed leafy courtyard with a climbing frame, swings, slide, huge sand pit and hammock. From the courtyard a child safety gate leads to the sparkling blue pool with loungers to laze in the sun and panoramic views of the gorgeous scenery. The pool is heated, which is an added bonus for sensitive little ones early and late in the season. There is also a dedicated toddler pool.

The three spacious properties themselves have all been simply styled to combine rustic charm with modern comfort. They won't win any design awards, but they are charming with exposed stone walls, original oak beamed ceilings and cool tiled floors. The country-style kitchens are well equipped, there are BBQs on the patios and comfy bedrooms including big antique beds and fantastic views.

Relaxation starts from the moment guests arrive since the long list of nursery gear (cots, high chairs, baby monitors, booster seats and bed guards) is provided enabling parents to travel light and avoid ever-increasing airline baggage charges, plus Catherine and Ian offer a brilliant arrival night meal service and pre arrival grocery and baby bits (nappies, wipes, formula etc.) shopping service. These thoughtful extras are topped off with a qualified daytime or evening babysitting service, and combine to promise a stress free break with plenty of quality time both as grown-ups and as a family - the stuff great holiday memories are made of!

  • Lovely gite, very spacious and comfortable. It was perfect for our little one. Outdoor space was great too making for a lovely holiday.Review dated 24/09/2014

  • First impressions - On arrival there was a bottle of chilled wine in the fridge and freshly cut flowers on the table. On our first evening we ate dinner, beautifully prepared by Catherine, sitting on the terrace overlooking the valley the child monitor (supplied) plugged into the exterior power point - Catherine and Ian have thought of everything! Lymerac is so child friendly, with the private road perfect for those first stabilizer free bicycle rides. It is an absolute gem surrounded by beautiful countryside yet within easy reach of both Aubeterre and Villebois Lavalette. For the children there were two sandpits, swings, slide, paddling pool, wendy house, table tennis, bicycles, tricycles, badminton, tennis, ponies and Polly the friendly dog. Our cottage was lovely, so roomy and comfortable, the three gites are not on top of each other with spacious communal areas. For rainy days highly recommend the “Kizou Aventure” adventure playground at Angouleme, super for children ( 6 months )Review dated 22/03/2014

  • Has potential to be a great baby friendly resort. Unfortunately, the recent poor weather highlighted how basic the accommodation was. Cold and drafty for first night with the most uncomfortable sofa and all baby cries amplified due to lack of soft furnishings. However, fantastic to have home cooked meal prepared for us on arrival and shopping in the fridge. Pools are lovely but freezing if weather has not been kind. Heating mentioned in write up is actually black pipes heated by sun so no sun = freezing pool. Climbing frame is a death trap for smaller children but my 4 year old was ok. Horse riding is not as freely available as indicated in advert. Only one pony available when we were there so my daughter and i couldn't ride together which was part of the reason for booking this venue. Lack of baby amenities such as cutlery. Availability of stair gates would have been a good addition to enable moderation of movement in large barn. Need to concentrate on details e.g. sand in sandpit looks like builders sand and makes kids very mucky very quickly. Luckily it does wash out but use of a better play sand would minimise stress for mum and dad. It is such a shame since Ian, Catherine and their family could not have been more welcoming. I'm sure they will iron out the wrinkles soon. Owner Responds: We always aim to exceed guest expectations so were saddend to hear you felt your stay was less than perfect. I imagine that the unsually cold weather and rain contributed greatly to your disatisfaction but we have taken your commends onboard and installed a powerful pool heater, as well as buying new sofas. There are no stairgates as the gite is single storey. The climbing frame is not brand new but has been enjoyed safely by many, many children, although we obviously advocate adult supervision. Toddler crockery and cutlerly has always been available, so we can only assume you did not find it. Also, the sand is a mix of two types we have blended specifically for optimum sand castle building. We hope you'll visit again and enjoy a more typical Lymerac experience!Review dated 13/06/2013

  • We had a lovely stay at Lymerac. It’s a super location with fabulous views and lots to do. Our daughter enjoyed running around the courtyard, especially in the sandpit and on the play equipment. The selection of bikes to borrow meant that we could explore locally (the bakery was just a couple of kilometers away - although a steep uphill climb back!), our 3 year old really enjoyed her pony ride, and is still talking about it. The cottage was very spacious and well equipped, we loved the wood burning stove in the lounge. The owners are friendly and helpful, and provided lots of information about the area. All in all, a great place for a family holiday with small children.Review dated 04/04/2013

  • The location of this cottage is gorgeous - on a hill, you can overlook the valley from the swimming pool area. Our 3 year old loved the sandpit, swing, slide, pool, and bikes. Our 5 month old loved the 3 dogs that roamed around. Great place to visit nearby is Lac Jermaye - playpark, lake, picnic area and eateries. Some improvements could be made to the equipment and supplies in the cottages so that parents feel a bit more on holiday too.Review dated 29/06/2012
