Inside Dairy Cottage
When you’re holidaying with children it’s crucial your property feels like a home-from-home the whole family can relax in. We take a closer look at the gorgeous Dairy Cottage – tranquil, luxurious, and well-located for a week of New Forest fun!
Hi Cheryl, thanks for offering up your time to tell us more about the gorgeous Dairy Cottage, Hampshire. Tell us, what’s the story behind your property?
We bought the house in 2000, originally planned to be our weekend retreat after we first fell in love with the New Forest. In the end, we loved it so much we left London to move here permanently! We later renovated Dairy Cottage and were filmed by Channel 4’s Grand Designs. We re-designed the house, keeping the old cottage style and adding green oaks beams and a new thatched roof along with our beautiful modern kitchen and bathroom.
Horses, donkeys, cows, and pigs all roam freely in the Dairy Cottage surroundings – which the children love. And the nearby beaches are stunning too.
How would you describe the styling of Dairy Cottage?
Cosy, luxurious and modern. I specifically designed the house to separate a third of it as our home, and turn the rest into a luxury holiday rental for families – keeping it luxurious for parents, while being able to provide as much entertainment as possible for the little ones.
It’s a real home-from-home with all the extras you need for a beautiful break.
What makes your property a ‘baby-friendly cottage’?
We provide pretty much everything you could need on your holiday with babies and young children – even pushchairs! You really don’t need to bring anything other than your clothes.
Do you have a favourite feature that families should look out for in the house?
The toys are in abundance! Toddlers have their own kitchenette and a pirate ship in the garden.
What extras do you provide to make a New Forest family break even more exciting?
We have a beautiful beach hut at Alum Chine Beach, Dorset. It’s well equipped for a family beach day and we provide a breakfast hamper and your basic needs in the kitchen.
Within a few yards of the beach hut you’ll also find a fantastic playground, cafe and restaurant. Plus, it’s only a 20 minutes’ drive from the cottage.
What local places would you most recommend for a visit with kids?
Moors Valley – Something for all the family. Bike tracks, Gruffalo spotting, steam train rides, tree top trails… you can even hire Segways.
Beaches – Dorset is home to many beautiful beaches. Alum Chine is our favourite because of our beach hut.
The New Forest – Head into the forest and explore. There are plenty of places to take family walks, get muddy, and discover the wonderful nature of the region.
Peppa Pig World – pre-schoolers will love the themed rides and attractions at Paultons Park’s Peppa Pig World. And the rest of the park has lots for bigger children too.
What do you love most about renting out your holiday property?
Seeing how happy the little ones are as they explore and enjoy the cottage.
