Bijou, boutique and baby friendly sums up what makes The Park brilliantly different from so many of the other family holiday parks all over Cornwall. Instead of row upon row of static caravans, The Park only has a handful of these in one corner of the 27-acres of coastal woodland, putting its emphasis on much funkier options including cubist eco lodges and a Yurt Village for glampers. The Park has been sensitively landscaped to include conversation areas with nature trails Instead of the usual club house, The Park has all kinds of cool things going on throughout the summer at The Pool Bar, like tapas nights, Crab Shack seafood feasts and lazy Sunday afternoon BBQ’s, with background tunes by local musicians. The Pool Bar is also open from 10 ‘til 8 for drinks, snacks and Callestick Farm ice creams so families can settle in for a day by the heated outdoor pool on super comfy loungers and sofas. If it’s a tad too chilly for the outdoor pool, there’s an indoor pool with a separate baby pool, a sauna and steam room. Children can bounce off some energy on a giant trampoline and play on swings, plus toddlers have their own play area and everyone can have fun in The Park’s Play Yurt, filled with toys.
Is there anything cooler for kids than staying under canvas in a Mongolian yurt and even anti camping adults might get the bug for glamping with the comfy beds, a cosy wood burner and Freeview TV. The Yurt Village Cookhouse has a well equipped kitchen and dining area with lockable food cupboards, or families can simply treat themselves to a hearty Cornish breakfast, or gastro-style lunches and dinners in The Kitchen, the Park’s onsite café . Children will be perfectly happy with the Little Ones menu and The Kitchen is licensed so grown-ups can kick back with wine or cocktails on the terrace. If families are looking for a little more luxury than the Yurts, The Park’s Lodges are the epitome of cool, contemporary living, from their striking design and smart furnishings to sleek kitchens and big brass beds.
Accommodation overview
Treath is one of The Park’s luxury lodges for a couple with a baby and a cot can be provided. The living area is very cosy and comfortable with a squashy sofa and armchairs, Freeview TV, DVD player and contemporary gas fire. A dining table is in the corner, between the living area and the well equipped country kitchen which includes a gas hob, oven, microwave, fridge with a freezer compartment, dishwasher and washing machine. The lodge has one double bedroom with a freestanding roll top bath and an ensuite shower room. Treath has a private garden with outdoor seating and the lodge is dog friendly.
The Park could hardly be better placed for a family holiday to Cornwall, just a short walk from the stunning sandy beach at Mawgan Porth, almost mid-way between the surfer capital of Newquay and foodie mecca of Padstow.
Mawgan Porth bay alone was listed among the best holiday beaches in the world by the Sunday Times, with a glorious expanse of sand for children to play and superb surfing, especially for beginners. Lessons are available for all ages at Surf King or children can just have fun in the shallows on body boards, get busy with a bucket and spade in the sand, peer into rockpools and explore caves in the crags. The Atlantic breakers are mesmerising to watch but need to be treated with caution and RNLI lifeguards watch over the beach between April and September.
The beach is perfect for picnics and families can pick up provisions at the Cornish deli and minimarket in the village as well as pasties, ice creams and seaside toys from Betty’s newsagents. Alternatively, ‘Off the Beach’ is a cafe bar and restaurant, just off the sands and there is also a fish and chop shop in the village and a good pub with great views from a large garden. A little further into the village Bre Pen Farm Shop sells local and homemade produce, with a cafe that doubles as an evening Bistro at weekends.
Mawgan Porth is on the North Cornwall Coast Path and by heading out for just few mile
