Like its mansion house neighbour, the 2-bedroom Gate House at Burgundy Chateau is the stuff childhood fantasies are made of with woodland, sand-fringed riverbanks and an island with dinghy to explore - it is an old fashioned adventure storybook in the making!
Thanks to the fact that the Chateau's owners, Nick and Susanna Lyell have eight grand children, aged from 1-10 years old, the Gate House is a very child and baby friendly place to stay with adventure safely contained and easily supervised, so parents can enjoy their glorious surroundings with few worries about giving their little ones the freedom to roam. They've also taken care of stocking the place with some handy baby and kids gear too, see the grey 'Fast Facts' column on this page for full details.

La Maison du Chateau is owned by a family of 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Marykate (one of the sisters) and her husband Mark run the property and look after it throughout the year. They have two children aged 5 and 4 years. Marykate and her brothers and sister have been coming to the property that was brought by their parents back in the 1980s. They have very fond memories of the house, local area and all it offers. Mark and Marykate live in the UK but visit the property regularly. Year round the guests are looked after by wonderful Delphine the cook and the charming maids. There is also a groundsman.
We love the property because it is so unique. A manor house set in a 24 acre private park with a swimming pool, tennis court, river, rowing boat, table tennis and so much more - what else does one need. Mummy and Daddy love it because they can relax and don't have to do cooking and clearing away (all done by our cook and maids) They love to eat the amazing food produced by Delphine, go wine tasting with our local wine expert, explore the world famous sites in the area as well as swim, play tennis, go on long walks, row on the river and sunbath! In fact we never want to leave when we are there.
Our children love to run down in the morning, grab a pain au
chocolat (delivered fresh by the baker that morning) from the breakfast table all laid up by the maids ready for when guests wake up, splash in the pool,
run to the tennis court and play a game with Mummy and Daddy, explore
the park, row on the river (with mummy and daddy),
throw stones into the water from the private pebble beach, make dens, dig in the sandpit, bicycle and
scoot on the quiet roads - the list could go on! When they are hungry Delphine prepares them their favourite food and Mummy and Daddy help them toast mashmallows on the open fire in the Grand Salon (or the BBQ).
