BFB's Overview

For a taste of The Hamptons’s lifestyle close to home, stylish Pear Trees Cottage (sleeps 7+baby) is hard to beat. This contemporary retreat is set just a few steps from the shoreline on an exclusive coastal estate, a short drive from Brighton and a pleasant Sunday stroll from Littlehampton.

Perfect for beach loving families the house has a large stretch of sand shingle beach on the doorstep and a handy supply of buckets and spades. Windsurfers may find themselves in there element here but the owner can also help suggest additional water sports available locally.

Inside the house has been finished with parents in mind. There's a thoughtful supply of baby gear, play equipment and home from home comforts. Little ones will love the garden summer house and 12ft trampoline while parents are sure to appreciate the spacious deck with BBQ which is the perfect spot for a sundowner.

Accommodation Overview:

Pear Trees Cottage sleeps 7 in three bedrooms comprising of a master suite with extra large double bed, a second double room with queen size bed and a children's room with a single and a set of bunk beds. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower, the second has a bath and separate shower.

The living space is comfortable and bright with plenty of space to relax. There's a cosy log burner, wide screen satellite TV, DVD player and stereo in the lounge area and a dining table with seating for 8. The modern kitchen has a 4 ring stove, microwave, blender, coffee maker, oven, fridge, freezer, toaster and dishwasher.

Location Information

Just 90 minutes from London the house offers a quick and easy seaside getaway. East Preston village centre is within 2-minutes walk and has several pubs, shops, cafes and takeaways. An hour's walk away, mostly along the sea front, is the award-winning East Beach Cafe at Little Hampton which is fantastic for weekend brunch, long sunny lunches or family-friendly early suppers.

The local towns of Arundel, Brighton, Littlehampton, Worthing, Rustington and Angmering are great for shopping, sightseeing, sailing, fishing and long country or sea walks. Littlehampton, is well worth a visit as it is home to the highly acclaimed, yet family-friendly, East Beach Cafe and, a little further on, the more old-fashion British seaside delights including a small farground with indoor soft play and bouncy castles on the sandy beach.

Travelling in the opposite direction, along the coast is Brighton (approx. 30-40mins by car), which has a great selection of bistros and handily pedestrianised 'Laines' shopping area, plus a pier fairground and lovely boardwalk with cafes on the seafront itself. BFB recommends Pinxto People,a sophisticated tapas bar and deli with chic yet family-friendly vibe and excellent menu including specials for niños. If you can't stop, get it to takeaway and enjoy it back at the house.

There are tonnes of other options nearby for days out including Drusilla’s Park and Zoo (about 30mins by car) with its animal attractions, two special playzones for under sixes, an indoor paint’n’make section and Thomas the Tank Engine ride complete with real life Sir Toppham Hat (Fat Controller to less PC generations! ). There's Arundel with its brilliant antique shops and racing at Goodwood, where car enthusiasts can drool over the museum and those seeking pampering can head to the spa.

Who owns this place?

We are based in London with 3 young children, and whenever the cottage is not let we are down there!

What do they love about it?

Very quick to get to from London. We have a fantastic spot, south facing with sun all day. We love our sports and can cycle or walk some of the most scenic routes along the south downs in the morning and come back to the cottage and windsurf in the afternoon. There is so much variety & things to do.

What do the kids love about it?

Our kids are aged 8, 6 and 2 and love to spend hours on the beach with their bodyboards and building sand castles. The private estate also makes a safe place for them to cycle and rollerblade. On days when the weather is not so great there are endless activites from site seeing, farm parks, horse riding and pottery making. And sometimes its just a lazy day playing badminton in the garden. Never a dull moment!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pear Trees Cottage and would definitely book it again. The house is lovely, very nicely decorated and perfect for children, being all on one level. The garden is beautiful and again, perfect for children as it's got lots of space to run around but is also very safe. There's plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. We (mum, dad, granny and 18-month old) had a fantastic time. Highly recommended!Review dated 22/07/2011

  • We had a lovely holiday at Pear Trees Cottage! The accommodation was excellent, and the garden particularly was superb. Our 3 year old girl LOVED using the trampoline! The local beach was good fun and the owner recommended some great places to visit while we were there, including Fishers Farm Park which we all really enjoyed.Review dated 11/07/2011
