BFB's Overview.

Partridge Lodge is a popular child friendly cluster, perfectly situated just inland from a lovely part of the Suffolk coast, within walking distance of a good food pub. This rural retreat offers a variety of accommodation options from it's two larger houses Dairy Hall and The Farmhouse to its smaller offerings, the two bedroom Granary and the one bedroom Stables. Each has been thoughtful renovated to combine original features with a cosy yet contemporary feel and handy supply of baby/toddler gear. This, together with location and the friendliness of the owners, is the reason that Partridge Lodge consistently receives outstanding feedback from BFB clients with many choosing to return, year after year.

The luxurious Farmhouse is the largest of the cottages available to rent at Partridge Lodge and comes with its own private garden hot tub (£20 per day charge) and access to all the communal facilities including spacious grounds, a sauna, an all weather tennis court and a safely fenced lake with rowing boat and fishing rights (waiver must be signed before use). However what makes Partridge Lodge so special is the owners (the Henrys) attention to detail. Calling on their own experiences with their brood of four, the Henrys have gone to great lengths to ensure parents actually get to enjoy a proper break. Along with the long list of baby/toddler gear on hand to make packing, loading and unloading a breeze, there's a range of pre-bookable services from babysitting to catering, pre-arrival shopping to massage/beauty treatments provided by visiting beauty therapists on request. Mini guests are as equally well looked after as they are escorted by the owners to explore the grounds, enjoying a spot of egg collecting, chicken feeding or petting their residence rabbits Sugar and Spice!

Accommodation Overview - The Farmhouse (sleeps 9+ babies)

The Farmhouse sleeps 9+babies in 5-bedrooms including a downstairs single and four large upstairs rooms comprising 2 x king-size doubles (one with ensuite) and 2 x twin singles each with 2 singles a piece and sharing access to the main family bathroom. Perfect for multi-family groups, teh Farmhouse has plenty of space for everyone including three separate lounge areas and a conservatory that has beautiful sunset view. The lounge area has a comfortable sofa bed and TV. Outside there is a large private garden with hot tub, swing and slide plus a terrace with outdoor dining furniture and BBQ.

Like all the Partridge Lodge accommodation, teh Farmhouse is exceptionally well-equipped for families. Each property has a microwave, tumble dryer, pots and pans and cafetiere. The owners provide starter cling film, foil, pepper, salt, olive oil, sugar, tea, coffee, toilet rolls, soap, bin liners, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, scouring pads, washing up brush and clothes detergent. Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco's and Ocado deliveries can be arranged (slots should be after check-in). There are books (including cookery) with Sky HD with movies and sports channels plus WiFi. All properties have travel cots with the added bonus of a fixed cot in the Farmhouse and Dairy Hall. Optional sofa bed available in all cottages for a small fee. With toddlers in mind, each property has a high chair with tray, changing mat, baby monitors, steam steriliser, mini food processor, plastic bowls and plates, baby spoons, baby bath, toys and a non slip bath mat. The owners can also provide Bjorn new born baby sling, baby books, bouncer, play nest, potty, toilet seat, booster, bed guard, basic stroller. All sockets are protected with guards downstairs in each property. They have optional stair gates for the top and bottom of the stairs if required.

The Farmhouse AGA is switched off from May to the end of September unless requested. There is an optional extras 'Hot Tub' available in the Farmhouse's private garden priced at £20 per day. Guests enjoy use of the Tennis court and Sauna in the grounds. Dogs stay is by agreement and is charged at £10 per day.

COVID-19 Policy - Guests are offered a full refund minus a £75 admin fee if forced to cancel due to postcode used in the booking, or that of the rental property, being subjected to a lockdown.

Who owns this place?

Partridge Lodge : A Rural Retreat ...

In 2007 my wife and i decided to move away from city life. We bundled up our four kids and the furniture in search of a sense of reality, that we had both enjoyed in our own childhoods.
We found and bought an old run down dairy farm and set about renovating it into a rural retreat for guests to come and unwind closeby to our magestic historical coast in Suffolk.
Our boys helped right the way through our project with innovative ideas and kids spaces. The feedback from our guests is always uplifting and gives us a real sense of purpose.
We have been rewarded enormously by being voted third best in Europe by BabyFriendlyBoltholes awarwds. We were also picked out by Rachael Oakden for an editorial piece written about Partridge Lodge in Aprils 2010 FOOD and TRAVEL magazine.

The Henry's minus Dad

What do they love about it?

Our Holiday lets are secluded enough to feel freedom and the grounds relaxed enough to have a wonder and take in all the wild life including owls, woodpeckers, kingfishers and deer that inhabit our surroundings. Or for a longer walk there's the footpaths that guide you to the beautiful Boulge Estate (where lies in a quiet secluded churchyard, Mr Edward Fitzgerald, translator of the Omar Kiyan) or in the opposite direction to Bredfield Village with its community run shop and local pub.
From Bawdsey Quay to Sutton Hoo to Orford to Aldeburgh to Southwold to Thorpeness to Friday Street Farm Shop to The FarmCafe to the Charm of Woodbridge itself, there is so much life and these are only some of our favourite places.

What do the kids love about it?

We have our own chickens (with great tasting real eggs for breakfast), sugar and spice our petting rabbits (which kids adore spending time with), to our sand covered all purpose court (for football, basketball, badminton), to our boat house and fishing pond (where a monster three pound eel was caught last year but the pike illuded capture).

  • A very family friendly property in a beautiful part of the country, and plenty to do without even getting in your car. We had a fantastic time here with friends, and children age 7 months, 3, 4 & 5.Review dated 11/07/2016

  • Fantastic array of baby / child equipment. There are a few steps / level changes in the property but baby gates and doors to contain toddlers effectively. Beautiful setting with lots to do on the site (sandpit, slides, swings, chickens, rabbits, tennis court, fishing pond for older children). Several of us (adult / older children) went on canoe trip organised by the owner - lovely trip down river with lots of bird life to see). Plenty to do in surrounding area.Review dated 19/04/2015

  • In Partridge Lodge, the owners have created fantastic accommodation in idyllic surroundings - perfect for a family holiday. The Farmhouse itself was extremely comfortable and very well appointed. The garden was great for the children toplay, and we enjoyed using the tennis court, collecting eggs for breakfast and just having the chickens around. The boys had fun fishing in the pond.
