Nestled amongst 180 acres of olive and almond trees, with beautiful views down the valley to the Mediterranean and even Africa beyond, Padre Aviles is a haven for parents and young children. Despite the brilliantly convenient location, just 30 minutes from Malaga airport (reached from most UK regional airports) and 10mins from the nearest beach, this traditionally restored former 17th century convent is wonderfully tranquil and relaxing. It's also extremely welcoming for little ones, thanks mainly due to the fact its owners, expats Claire and David, have a gaggle of youngsters themselves, and provide a host of play great to keep them entertained but with minimal impact on the natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere of the setting.
The traditional Andalucian stables and covent have recently been converted into five luxurious 2 & 3-bedroom self catering apartments. Their south-facing position, high ceilings and white-washed walls give them a lovely fresh bright feel, whilst touches like hand crafted wooden beds; pretty tiles and cosy wood burning stoves give them traditional elegance. Luxury touches come in the form of granite topped kitchens, mod cons like kettles (so often overlooked in Spain/France), dishwashers, washing machines and microwaves, which can make life a lot easier with little ones in tow. There are also DVD players (bring kids favourites) and stereos. All apartments have lovely south facing terraces (fenced) with good quality teak furnishings and BBQs. Their beautiful views over the pool, valley and sea make them a wonderful spot to enjoy dinner and drinks once the little ones are in bed.
The 90 square metre El Abaricoque apartment is one of the smallest at Padre Aviles but is it perfect for a family of three or four. It has a lovely double bedroom with space for a cot, and a cosy twin bedroom, both of which share a veautifully tiled bathroom with bath tub and shower over. There's a large open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, have French doors leading onto a private terrace overlooking the swimming pool with Teak garden furniture, a BBQ. The apartment has two, 2-seater sofas and wood burning stove, which adds to the romance and makes for cosy nights (there are heaters too), a DVD player and a stereo. The neutral toned decor gives a lovely sense of peace and tranquillity.
Please note: One highchair and one cot are available free of charge.
Padre Aviles is only 30 mins from Malaga airport, 20mins from Malaga centre with the Picasso Museum, the Alcazaba and fabulous shopping. The beach and it beachfront restaurants are just 10mins away, and there are 3 golf courses within 15mins. The famously picturesque white-washed village of Frigiliana is within 20 minutes and major towns such as Granada(1hr), Ronda(1hr), Seville(2hr) and Cordoba(2hr) are all within easy access. The very spanish white washed village of Olias is 1.5 km up the road and has a village shop where you can buy all the basics and fresh bread. Another 6 km north will take you the the "Montes de Malaga", Malaga's National park.
Owners Claire and David speak fluent French and Spanish, as well as English and are a great resource not just for fun things to do with kids in the area, but also to help if problems like car breakdown or medical emergencies occur.

We had a great week with our 2 year old and ten month old - would highly recommend and hope to return!Review dated 18/09/2016
We had a lovely week at Padre Aviles - Claire and David made us feel so welcome and we had everything we could possibly need for our 11 month old son. It's a beautiful place with stunning views down the valley to the coast, and so peaceful - we had the whole place to ourselves all week! Great location too. We will definitely be back!Review dated 28/04/2016
We hadn't dared to go abroad with our toddler but our first venture here could not have been a better experience. Beautiful location, great play area, welcoming hosts, and lots to do in the region. Brilliant sunshine helped too. A perfect break.Review dated 26/10/2014
Such a beautiful place, you will not want to leave! Stunning location, beautiful pool, and Claire such a wonderful host and so helpful regarding the surrounding area. The appartment was perfectly geared towards our 2 year old, who adored her time there, as did we. We would thoroughly recommend it. If you want the bright lights and clubs and everything English, go elsewhere but if you want a real taste of Spain this is definitely the place.Review dated 15/09/2013
This was the most relaxing holiday we have had with our son - largely because everything was set up so that he could enjoy himself in a safe environment and all the little things that can be a pain when you are away with a toddler were covered - plastic crockery, bed guard, various outdoor toys available for children to use, the toy box in each apartment - plus the lovely pool with a decent sized shallow end to splash about in as well as the large terrace (the 'playground'). It was incredibly peaceful and we really would recommend this place to anyone!Review dated 09/06/2013
Claire and David are great hosts and gave us lots of useful information of the area. We loved the local walking and running tracks with superb views. The website information gives true reflection of holiday accommodation - very good. One-level living and open plan kitchen - excellent and very clean. Wood-burning stove was added bonus for cooler spring nights. Great place with our 7 month old baby boy. We plan to return. Thank you.Review dated 13/03/2013
Lots of toys in the villa and round the pool was a lovely touch. Views down the valley were beautiful. Very quiet and perfect for relaxing.Review dated 07/10/2012
A great place for a relaxing holiday with toddlers. Padre Aviles is in a spectacular unspoilt location 7.5km up a switchback road from the coast but pretty handy for the airport and attractions. The accommodation is done really well, and equipped with everything you could think of (even stick blenders). The owner Claire was really helpful, and her recommendations for things to do were bang on. We enjoyed the nearby beach at El Palo which is a bit of the Costa del Sol that manages to remain Spanish!Review dated 26/06/2010

The accomodation was great - and Claire was fab - providing lots of kit for our tiny baby. Only downside was that we didn't realise from the description that you had to drive to get anywhere... which wasn't ideal with a 15 week old baby who still needs a lot of walks in the pram.Review dated 03/11/2009
We received a very warm and friendly welcome to this super little development. The former stable (I think) building has been converted to an extremely high standard with first class furnishings and equipment. My family (kids - 14, 11 and 8) and I would love to go back one day. We had the most wonderful stay with our 3 children at Padre Aviles over New Year. Claire and David were incredibly welcoming, the apartments were beautifully kitted out with everything you need with 3 young kids (ours are 5y, 3y and 5 months) and the views from the balcony down the valley were breath-taking. Highlight: local walks to nearby v unspoilt village, Olias. Our only sadness was that we were staying during the winter and so didn't get to use the amazing pool so we're already planning our next trip..... THOROUGHLY recommend a stay here!Review dated 03/11/2009
We had a fabulous time! Can't wait to go back.Review dated 03/11/2009
We had a fantastic time on our holiday, Clare and David were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The apartments had everthing you could possibly need for a family friendly holiday as well as being spotless. My only moan was that the terraces weren't fenced off, which would have been a huge help with a very active toddler.Review dated 03/11/2009
We had a really amazing holiday. Padre Aviles is just gorgeous and the owners are just so very friendly and welcoming, they really made the whole experience superb. The facilities were great and the location idyllic. It was very Spanish which was great. Our 1 year old and 4 year old both loved it and we were actually able to relax! We will definitely be returning at some point in the future!Review dated 03/11/2009
Claire the owner could not be more helpful. My daughter needed the doctor while we were on holiday and she made the appointment and went with us making the whole situation very easy!Review dated 03/11/2009
Outstanding - and we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. I have to say everything was first class - the apartments were all furnished to a very high standard, extremely well laid out, excellent facilities - and the location is breathtaking. Secondly - the swimming pool and tennis courts were perfect and the only way to get our kids out of the pool or tennis courts was to take them out on a day trip or put them to bedReview dated 03/11/2009
