A far cry from the high rise, fly and flop package holiday resorts that mar some of the Canary islands, Finca del Arietta is an ethically designed, luxurious, private estate close to the tranquil fishing village of Arrieta on Lanzarote's north coast. Owned by ex-pats Michelle and Tila, who live on site with their own brood of youngsters, the 30-acre coastal farm is now home to two small villas and six yurts, each sleeping from 2-8, and all designed following the principles of Lanzarote's most famous architect, Caesar Manrique - with sympathy towards the natural beauty of the location and protection of the environment.
All sixteen properties, enjoy shared use of the solar heated, outdoor pool and second jet pool, as well as the kids play areasand access to the cluster of friendly farm animals including Molly the donkey. The traditional Canarian fishing village of Arietta with its sandy beach and small selection of shops and cafe bars is within 300m walk, although via an uneven farm track, which can be tricky to navigate with buggies in the dark, so a torch is recommended if you're planning on eating at the sea front restaurant.
Accommodation Overview:
The Twin Yurt is actually two adjacent yurts, with their own large shower house and outdoor (roofed) kitchen, set in their own walled garden within the Eco Finca de Arietta estate. The main yurt is large at 28-square metres and houses an extra large (180cm wide) double bed, a double sofa bed and a lounge area. The smaller of the two is a cosy 8 metres square and a perfect bedroom for older children or additional adults who prefer separate sleeping areas. The accommodation is far from basic with electric lights, plug sockets, marble flooring and luxurious fabrics . The kitchen can be found on the terrace; it's cleverly shaded and offers a unique opportunity to prepare meals without missing out on the sun and sea views. It features a full size oven and fridge-freezer, 4-ring hob and granite-topped worktops. Microwaves are available on request. 'Glam-ping' doesn't get much better!
Unlike many of Spain's popular holiday spots, Lanzarote has been protected heavy, high rise, development thanks to local artist César Manrique who's strong architectural influence can be seen in the fact that the island has kept primarily to its traditional white washed houses and low-rise buildings.
Finca de Arrieta is set just 300 metres from the beach and centre of the small village of Arrieta on Lanzarote's peaceful north coast. The village is little changed by the passage of time and unspoilt by mass tourism. Here visitors will still witness first hand fishermen in their traditional wood fishing boats and farmers ploughing fields with their donkeys.
The village has a cluster of shops, seafront restaurants and cafés. Arrieta has two beaches, one in the village next to Fisherman’s Cottage and the other in front of "Finca de Arrieta". These are child friendly beaches and on the main sandy beach there is a beach bar, restaurant, play park and toilet/shower facilities. For any fishing equipment and general supplies the Petrol station/ Mini Market at the entrance to the village is open from 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
For a small, traditional village, Arietta is well blessed with seafood eateries, five of which have seaside terraces or beach locations. The informal El Kiosko does a good line in tapas and a huge paella for Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes. Whilst, at the other end of the beach, Casa de la Playa is highly rated for more formal meals.
Finca de Arietta's owner, Michelle, lives on site with her four children and is a fabulous resource for planning excursions, activities or meals out, just ask!

The best thing about Finca Arrieta is undoubtedly the management team. Sally was amazingly helpful planning excursions and we even got a lift from Tila the owner who was incredibly helpful, engaging and friendly. The accommodation was great, the Yurts really are impressive from the inside and the location was wonderfully quiet (if a little isolated). Everything required for baby was here. We felt quite sorry for the other people on our flight struggling with car seats and prams but then they hadn't booked with BFB!
Excellent family friendly place. We loved the area and the set-up of the range of kids play things ie indor play area, indoor pool, hot-tub, out door area, and the fantastic scenery. We loved it!
Stayed in the luxury yurt royale-could not have asked for more. Perfect for a family of 4 but would sleep 2 more if needed. Great accommodation and outside area was lovely.
