Petite Cabanes is a little piece of rural heaven in a fabulous setting with views over rolling hills, vineyards and woodland, offering the perfect retreat from busy lives. Peace, tranquillity space and views combine with all mod cons and extensive baby and child friendly facilities to make this a special place for everyone to unwind from the moment they arrive. A Pre arrival grocery and baby items shopping service means everything can be ordered in advance so that relaxation really can begin the moment the car pulls up on the drive.
Once settled into the comfortable spacious renovated barn, the only dilemma is what to do next: Whether to chill by the pool with a glass or wine watching the little ones play in the warm shallows or wander the grounds to discover the outdoor play area with swings, slide, ride ons, tepee and play house, the animals to feed or the games equipment and bicycles, there is plenty on site inside and out to entertain for at least two weeks!
And once the sun goes down, there are long balmy candle lit evenings, barbeques and local food and wine to be enjoyed, whilst the children are safely tucked up in bed. Sheer bliss!
Julie and Steve, the on-site English speaking owners offer a warm welcome and help and advice when parents need it, but otherwise are discreet and largely invisible. They are on hand to offer tips and advice on local places to eat, drink, horse ride, kayak, or anything in between to make the most of precious holiday time.
Accommodation Overview:
'Farmhouse Petite' is actually one and the same as the 7-bedroom 'Farmhouse', which can be rented here (click to view), the difference being that 'it is rented as a lower cost, 4-bedroom barn, with the guests' choice of four of the eight bedrooms i.e. doubles, twins, bunks, singles, agreed and made-up in advance, with the other bedrooms available only if required and at an extra cost.
This spacious barn conversion is situated on a former farm set 50-metres from a quiet country lane with very little traffic. A 10-minute cycle ride finds the pretty village of Le Temple-sur-Lot with restaurant, boulangerie, grocery shop, organic mini market and access to the River Lot.
The six ground floor bedrooms comprise: 2 double rooms with king size bed, a family room with king size bed and bunk beds, a twin room (two single beds), a single room and a room with a set of bunk beds. This allows families can pick the ideal three bedroom layout for them. Cots can be added to any room and beds are made-up prior to arrival.
The accommodation is adjacent to the pool terrace with access to the large private alarmed solar heated pool, sun terrace and children’s play area. There is plenty of outdoor space including a play lawn for ball games, sunny and shaded seating areas and mature grounds to explore or build dens in. And all of this is for your exclusive use. Behind the owners accommodation there is a chicken coop and animal petting area where guests are welcome to come and feed the chickens or collect their eggs.
The Farmhouse is entered via a vine covered terrace into the rustic country kitchen with exposed beams and terracotta floors and plenty of storage space for essential supplies. The Kitchen (new for 2016) is well equipped with stainless steel 5-ring gas cooking range, dish washer, washing machine, large fridge freezer, microwave, Tassimo machine, cookery books, table and chairs.
Ideal for getting away from it all, deep in beautiful French countryside but the villages of Le Temple Sur Lot and Castelmoron are also only 3km away for the nearest boulangeries, bars and restaurants. The villages are also on the banks of the Lot, where river beaches are just the place for a picnic, paddling and fresh water swimming, or motor boats, canoes and funky paddle boats are available for hire.
To stock up on essential shopping, there are four supermarkets within 15 minutes drive but the local artisan shops and markets are a highlight in themselves. Throughout the summer, evening markets also have a friendly family atmosphere for a memorable night out, sampling local delicacies and the fine regional wines. The Lot region borders mile upon mile of famous Bordeaux vineyards so there are numerous chateau and ‘caves’ offering tastings and tours. Plus there are great restaurants to suit all budgets including Michelin-starred establishments, in nearby Pujol and Villeneuve-Sur-Lot.
For guests who can tear themselves away , there are free passes to the local tennis courts available and a variety of family attractions nearby including two water parks with slides, pools, jacuzzis and cafe/bars within an hours drive. Parc Walibi features a variety of rides and roller coasters plus sea lion shows, or at Parc en Ciel little monkeys can clamber around on a special web of Tyrolean cables for little ones 2-6 years and older kids and adults can sample more challenging courses or simply relax by the outdoor pool and playground there. Facilities for horse-riding, 10-pin bowling, underground cave exploration and fishing are available nearby and the owners also provide a variety of child and adult bikes for exploring the surrounding countryside and villages.

Las Cabanes is owned and managed by Julie and Steve Cormack and their daughters Annabelle and Lily. They live discreetly on site but are on hand if you need anything at all during your stay. Julie worked in HR and teaching and Steve worked in telecoms and management before taking the plunge and moving to France in 2003. They had holidayed with their own small children and found it difficult to find properties that catered specifically for families. Their desire was to set up and run a truly family friendly destination, offering comfortable relaxed family accommodation whilst providing all the necessary equipment for small children, so that clients can pack light and relax from the moment they arrive. They fell in love with the unspoilt Lot et Garonne region. "It's like an unspoilt Tuscany or Provence and I'd better shut up now or I'll be responsible for spoiling it." Sam Taylor -The Observer. Steve and Julie have been successfully providing fantastic family holidays here at Las Cabanes since 2004.
It goes without saying that we love the weather. Long hot summers, warm sunny springs and temperatures in double figures sometimes even in December. But also we love the space, tranquility, peace and views and the fact we can be totally in the countryside but within a few minutes can get to all amenities and attractions. There are great circular walks from the property too and we still get a thrill when we spot wildlife locally. I love the sound of green woodpeckers tapping in the trees or the sound of the nightingales singing on balmy evenings. Seeing a family of wild boar with babies when driving back from the supermarket is something I'll never forget. We feel really lucky to have found our little corner of paradise. We hope you love it too.
All our little visitors love the large 10 x 5 m pool with roman steps for them to play in the shallows. They seem to happily while away many hours in and around the pool area. Petting the animals is popular too, especially collecting the eggs from our chickens: Lulu, Gertrude Hilda and Doris. Extensive on site facilities mean families often don't venture far. For babies and toddlers we have paddling pool, ride ons, slide and baby swing. For the under 8's we have swings, slide, tepee, dressing up clothes, rocking horse, bikes, football nets, balls, indoor books, toys, games, age appropriate dvd's etc. For the older children we have full size pool table, table football, basket ball nets, badminton, tennis, boules, rounders etc.

We have just had the most amazing, relaxing week at Petit Cabanes. Everything with regards to children has been thought of and there was so much to keep our children entertained, from feeding the guinea pigs and goats, to playing in the huge garden, looking in the pond for tadpoles and splashing in the fabulous pool. The owners, Steve and Julie, are perfect, in that they are v quiet and discreet and only make contact if you wish them to, so the house feels very private.
The area is stunning, with lots to do on the doorstep and we had some wonderful meals out and went to some fabulous local food markets. We will not hesitate to recommend it to friends and we will certainly be back!Review dated 16/06/2016
Wow, wow and wow!!
Have just returned from staying at Las Cabanes and on behalf of two couples and two babies can we just say an enormous thank you to Julie and Steve for an ultra relaxing, enjoyable and marvellous holiday! Refreshingly no negative feedback necessary, without any exaggeration everything was perfect!
Nestled away in pure peaceful paradise of crop fields, farm yards and tree orchards, every inch of Las Cabanes has been carefully considered to cater for families in all weathers. The house alone - a converted barn, just oozes charming character and a lovely mix of beautiful old features with a pleasant modern twist. Thoroughly clean and inviting, each room has a breathtaking view. With plentiful of indoor and outdoor toys and baby friendly rooms we were all able to relax and get that home from home feeling . The babies never even got a moment to get bored or homesick. The garden play equipment was well loved as was the s ...Review dated 20/07/2014

We stayed at Petite Cabanes and could not have been made to feel more welcome. It's not luxurious in the sense of Mr & Mrs Smith, but thats not the type of holiday that we were looking for. We have two kids, aged 3 and 9 months at the time and we were on holiday with my parents. The room layout lent itself very well to this shape of family, providing some distance between my parents bedroom and our rooms! Our toddler's eyes lit up on arrival as she saw all the different play options and if it had been down to her we would not have left the property all week. There was plenty of shade even on the hottest of days, a beautiful pool and peace and quiet. As vacations with kids goes this was as relaxing as it gets! LovelyReview dated 16/01/2014
Thank you for such a lovely stay! We totally relaxed for the 2 weeks we were there! Review dated 09/11/2015
We had a really lovely time at Las Cabanes - it's a very beautiful spot. Everything we needed for the children (and more!) was there - in fact my son clearly felt it was far better than home as he decided to learn to crawl to get about and explore! Review dated 09/11/2015
I'm nervous recommending this as highly as it deserves as I don't want it to be all booked up before we can visit again! Steve and Julie couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. This is a beautiful property in a lovely location, and so thoughtfully and well equipped. We can't wait to go back.Review dated 08/07/2013
Thank you so much for such a great holiday. Despite the awful weather, we had a great time and thought your house was so comfortable and amazingly kitted out for children. They all had such fun playing with all the toys and it was so relaxing for us as we knew everywhere was safely gated. I'm going to recommend it to friends.Review dated 08/07/2013
Just amazing. This was the easiest holiday we have ever had with children! A massive playroom full of toys and loads of outside toys, kept them busy for hours. Everything you could possibly need for children from newborn was available from monitors, blackout blinds, cots, highchairs etc. No need to take anything of your own and the owners were just amazing, very much leaving you alone to enjoy your holiday but were at hand to help out with our endless questions. Beautiful countryside surrounds the property with lots of wonderful little villages nearby to go and explore. Stunning pool and an extremely relaxing atmosphere. A perfect holiday house for all the family.Review dated 08/07/2013
