For those who hanker after a rural idyll with views over rolling hills, meadows, wildflowers and woodlands, the scent of lavender and the sound of birdsong in the air, accompanied perhaps with a bit of splashing around in the pool, there can be few better group getaways than this. Its easy to see why owners Chris and Mark were so entranced that they bought the place after holidaying here year after year with there own children.
Les Chataigniers is a true rural idyll being 50 metres from the nearest road and even that is a small no through. The nearest town, Salvetat-Peyrales is about 10 minutes drive away and boasts some decent restaurants, whilst Michelin starred establishments in La Sauveterre de Rouergue and Becastel are within 15 miles. The evening markets in the same villages offer amore casual, family friendly dining for non-babysitting nights.

We had a wonderful stay at Les Chataigniers Farmhouse. It was absolutely perfect for our extended family group including babies, toddlers and grandparents. We literally put our suitcases in the car and arrived with everything else taken care of - cots, baby monitors, toys, books, pushchair, highchairs, stairgates etc. Highlights were picking our own raspberries, salads and herbs and digging potatoes, the lovely walk to the bakery and cafe in La Salvetat-Peyralues and the nearby night markets. The 2 and 3 year olds loved feeding the chickens and collecting eggs every morning. The property works particularly well for little ones as the playroom and pool are across a courtyard so the noise of the other children playing won't wake the napping babies at the house. Hope to return!Review dated 13/07/2015
Lovely stone converted farmhouses in a charming French hamlet, with interesting walking all around. This is probably best for slightly older children (over 3), although the play area and child friendly attractions within 90 minutes drive are great. Mark and Chris are wonderfully friendly, good cooks and used to be primary schoolteachers if you're looking to take off for an evening meal or two.Review dated 12/05/2013
