La Maison Maitre is a very special find indeed - a glamorous blend of French country chic interiors with the best elements of self catering i.e. spacious, private accommodation and freedom to cook for yourselves, and the style, luxury and optional additional services of a boutique hotel such as bathrobes, slippers, champagne, flowers etc.
Lovingly restored by its owners, designers Juliet and Deane, and their team of local artisans, this grand 18th century former barn is now home to three luxury self catering suites with one, two and three bedrooms, fully equipped modern kitchens and their own private outdoor terraces. Each suite is stylishly decorated with an eclectic mix of modern, antique and traditional style furniture, attractive soft furnishings, antique mirrors and crystal chandeliers, and painted in cool restful colours. A fourth suite in the luxuriously converted former pigeonnier tower offers couples with a baby or small child a little extra romance as well as all the same standards and facilities of the barn suites.
Despite their 18th century character, each has plentiful supplies of contemporary fixtures and fittings too. Their fully equipped kitchens come with free standing cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster and coffee machine, plus a full complement of crockery, cutlery, and glassware, cooking utensils, iron and ironing board; whilst their living areas boast UK satellite TV and Video or DVD player, selection of films and a CD player. There's even a hairdryer supplied for each suite, completing the boutique hotel suite feel. Younger guests are well looked after too with a comprehensive list of nursery gear from sippy cups and sterilisers to cots and baby baths (see full list in grey box below), plus baskets of toys, books and colouring materials.
The icing on the cake is the wonderful setting on an 8-acre country house estate complete with parkland, fields and orchards, plus a glistening 12 × 6 m pool with truly fabulous views over the surrounding countryside and villages. Here guests relax easily and time goes slowly. Days start taking in the views over al fresco breakfasts on the suite terraces or cooked for you and served on the lovely communal terrace. Later on it’s a tough choice between lounging by the pool soaking in the views or packing a picnic (self-made or ordered from the owners) and pottering around the grounds, perhaps a stroll into the pretty village for supplies or lunch? Or a daytrip to one of the pretty nearby towns or a St Emillion Vineyard? Evenings are generally spent sitting on the terrace enjoying the lavender scented breeze whilst enjoying a cool glass of local wine. Such an idyllic setting is sure to refresh even the most frazzled of parents!
Please note: There is a pond on the estate but it is approx. 50 metres from the accommodation and should not therefore pose a danger.

There are two luxurious bathrooms, one with bath and the other with a shower. The spacious open-plan living area has windows on two sides including a set of French doors that offer lovely views over the gardens. It feels exceptionally airy thanks to the high ceilings, light stone walls and beautiful limestone floors. There's a fully equipped galley kitchen with good-sized dining table and a lounge with sofa and two armchairs next to the Toulouse-stone feature fireplace - the perfect spot for reading, watching movies or UK TV. French doors open onto a private sunny seating area with barbecue.

We spent a blissful 2 weeks in August here. The location is perfect a good base for touring the local area which had plenty of markets, beautiful villages to potter around, castles a lovely beach on the River Lot where the children could build sandcastles and paddle in the crystal clear water, a ten minute drive away. Two good supermarkets less than 5 minutes away and Z'animoland which my 5 and 3 yr old girls loved! The gite was beautifully decorated and we had stunning views over the fields. What was lovely was all the washing up liquid, gloves, dishwasher tablets, washing powder etc was all provided for - so all we had to buy was food - even the bbq was set up with coals! Dean and Juliet were fantastic hosts, very knowledgeable, friendly and on hand. You could order 3 course meals to be served at your Gite - the food was fantastic and reasonably priced. The only downside was our bed - I think having got used to a king sized bed ...
La Maison de Maitre is a great place to stay for families and couples alike. The setting is idyllic and the attention to detail for little ones and parents too is superb. Staying here enabled us to travel light but in the knowledge that our daughter would have all the facilities necessary for a baby. Adults are extremely well catered for too. The accommodation is luxurious and to a high specification. The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise and we would also thoroughly recommend taking the option of having the meal made as a special treat.
Stunning place! Perfect for a relaxing holiday with small children.
Fantastic property and grounds, well maintained by owners. They literally provide everything that you would need for a holiday with baby/toddler which saves on the packing. The owners are very helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Delicious home made meals can be arranged which is great for a night off cooking. We had a lovely time with our 3 year old and 10 month old - would definitely recommend!
We have just spent a fantastic 2 weeks at La Maison de Maitre and we could not have wished for a better place to stay for our first holiday abroad with our 10 month old. The Vionnet suite had everything we could need and the communal areas are immaculate. The pool never feels crowded and there are toys, games and activities for children of all ages. Juliet and Deane are fantastic hosts and the surrounding area has plenty to see and do without being too touristy. We cannot recommend La Maison de Maitre highly enough (please see Trip Advisor for full review)
A wonderful stay - luxurious for adults and with every possible requirement catered for for children.
We had a fantastic week at La Maison de Maitre in the Vionnet Suite, well beyond our expectations. Everything is set up to be child friendly, but in a discrete and sophisticated way, so it still feels like a grown up holiday destination. Our (nearly) 2 year old loved the heated pool, outdoor and indoor play areas, and exploring the extensive garden. We loved the evening meal service (well worth a try), the views from the terrace (accompanied by a glass of wine), and the local cycle paths. We are already looking forward to going back next year! Thank you Juliet and Deane.
Beautiful accommodation in a stunning location! Everything is very tastefully done and the hosts couldn't be more accommodating. Exceptional in every way!
Fantastic holiday! La Maison is in the most wonderful setting with stunning views. The suites are absolute luxury and very well equipped. The pool and play area are fantastic, for adults as well as children! The suites and shared areas are very well looked after and immaculate. Deane & Juliet provided everything and more you need for the perfect holiday. I didn't know a holiday with children could be this easy. We will not be going anywhere else when we visit France in the future!!
Definitely coming back! Our 4 and 1 yr old had the time of their lives and we managed to really enjoy ourselves too! Maison Maitre is set in a stunning location amidst postcard perfect rolling hills. The pool area is lovely and our Gite, La Vionnette, was spacious, stylishly designed with everything we needed and more. Deane and Juliet were extremely attentive and responsive to all our needs and many questions about the area! There is plenty to do in the the region but it also hard to leave the property because there is very little incentive to!
Fantastic family break. Little ones loved the toys and outdoor play stuff and grown ups love the lovely apartment and great meal service. Its in a fab spot for exploring but quiet hard to find the motivation to leave such a lovely spot!
Just loved it! Beautiful apartment with all the kit needed for babies/toddlers and easy self catering but the pre-order meals were delicious! Would love to come back.
A magical holiday retreat. The accommodation is beautiful and Juliet and Dean are wonderful hosts. Every detail has been considered to ensure you have a relaxing, fun stay with children of all ages. Our 9 and 7 year old loved the heated pool, the ping-pong and football tables, our 1 year old loved the paddling pool and the extensive games room with every toy imaginable, and we all loved the enchanting frog pond and lunches and dinners on the patio overlooking the rolling French countryside. We treated ourselves to Juliet's 3 course dinner one evening and would highly recommend. Overall, an incredible find for a family holiday and a week we'll remember for a long time to come.
