BFB's Overview.

‘Mum fun’ and special family occasions are where Fullers Hill Cottages really come into their own, thanks to a little black (or pink!) book of optional extras and the stylish comfort of these four BFB’s. From Deluxe Breakfast Hampers with Prosecco and smoked salmon to farm shop Supper Boxes and ready-to-serve BBQ buffets, that’s plenty of yummy food made simple. Similarly, for a spot of pampering, luxurious spa treatments are provided by My Personal Sanctuary or how about a little bit of fun with a Wine Tasting evening or Cocktail Masterclass. Trusted nannies and babysitters can be arranged or children can join in the frivolity with cupcake decorating, luxury picnics or a punting river trip through Cambridge (with Pimms for parents, of course). One cottage has a hot tub of its own and there’s another in the shared garden for relaxing in steamy bubbles with chilled bubbly in hand and towels, robes and kids ponchos are all provided. While parents relax in the hot tub, children can also play in the shared garden which has table tennis and a swing.

The four Fullers Hill Cottages have been created from the ultra modern conversion of barn buildings that date back to the 1840’s. The cottages are part of a working farm run by the Jeffries family since the 1920’s, who started and still manage Little Gransden Airfield on their land, which hosts a Children In Need Air Show in August and has a flying museum of vintage and classic aircraft. The interior designers have hinted at the families’ farming and aviation heritage in quirky design features and all four cottages have been finished and furnished to contemporary, boutique standards. All the cottages have 3D TV’s with Freeview and internet channels like BBC iPlayer, plus Blu-ray DVD players and free WiFi throughout, while the modern, well-equipped kitchens include a Nespresso machine for a frothy cappuccino or kick-start espresso. Super comfy beds are made up with Egyptian cotton linen, duck-down duvets and pillows, and all the bathrooms are smart and modern, with tiled walls and floors.

Accommodation overview

Fullers hill Cottages have been transformed from a historic barn on the Jeffries working farm and comprise two apartments for up to four people (plus babies) and two apartments for up to six people (plus babies).

The Old Dairy (up to 6 + babies) is located in the oldest part of the original barn, built in the 1700’s and used as a dairy until the 1950’s. This apartment has views of Little Gransden Airfield and the aviation theme has been incorporated into the interior design through such features as a polished propeller on the wall, an aeroplane engine coffee table and interesting aerial photography. In the comfortable lounge, families can curl up on a large corner sofa to watch the 3D TV with Freeview and internet channels, or watch a movie on the Blu-ray DVD player, listen to music through the docking station or make use of the free WiFi. The sofa can also easily be converted into a double sofa bed. The modern kitchen diner is smart and well equipped, including a Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, washer/dryer, oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and all the essential crockery, cutlery and utensils. All cottages have use of a communal laundry with a washing machine, dryer and a large freezer. Upstairs, The Old Dairy has two bedrooms – one with a super king size bed and the other with twin singles that can also be made up as a super king size bed. Both bedrooms have space for a cot, which can be provided. The beds have luxury mattresses and are made up with cool, Egyptian cotton linen, duck down duvets and pillows. The family bathroom has a clean, modern design, with tiled walls and floors, a shower, washbasin and WC. Towels, handtowels and toiletries are provided, including children’s ponchos, for use at the hot tub.

Location Information

Fullers Hills Cottages are set on a working farm, which incorporates the family run Little Gransden Airfield, just 12 miles from Cambridge and 50 miles from London. Gamlingay is just a couple of miles away, with a Co-op and Landis convenience store, a sandwich shop, 2 pubs, a Chinese take-away and an Indian restaurant. Only 3 miles away, Wood View Farm Shop sells a good choice of meat, dairy products, fruit and veg, as well as deli items, cakes, wine and beer. For a ‘big shop’ there’s Tesco Extra in Potton (7 minutes’ drive) and Sainsburys in Biggleswade (15 mins).

The historic university city of Cambridge is just 20minutes drive from Fullers Hill with its honey coloured colleges, quaint little streets and punting on the river. The Grand Arcade is a great place for some serious retail therapy and the city is crammed with funky cafes, bars and restaurants. For a gourmet treat, The Midsummer House has 2 Michelin Stars and 5AA rosettes and for a gourmet burger, the Cambridge Canteen, just outside the city will be a hit with young and old.

Families can also check out the vintage planes at the Airfield, lots of walking friendly fields, plus the owners have a long list of recommended things to do with the kids, within easy reach of the cottages. At Wimpole Hall Farm, children can meet rare breed sheep, goats, cattle and horses, as well as help feed the pigs and groom the donkeys. The wildlife gets wilder at Woburn Safari Park, with its drive through enclosures of White Rhino, Elephants, Tigers and Black Bears, as well as less fearsome creatures on the Tiny Tots Safari, in the Land of Lemurs, Penguin World and Monkey Business. Thomas the Tank Engine fans can meet a life-sized version at the Nene Valley Heritage Railway and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford has won awards for its exhibits including a Spitfire and Concorde in its vast aircraft collection as well as tanks and other military vehicles. The Amazing Maze at Mitton is a bewildering walk-through puzzle for children to crack and there’s also mini golf, a giant slide, tyre-mountain, go-karts, tractor and trailer rides, farm trail and pets paddock.
