BFB's Overview

Perfect for large groups, Fairview House is made up of a former farmhouse and barn each with their own separate lounge and kitchens but with connecting doors and sharing two terraces with magnificent views - best enjoyed from its luxurious hot tub - and stunning grounds complete with heated pool, trampoline, wendy house and sandpit... idyllic!

If there are golfers in the family, this villa is the very place, overlooking the fairways of the prestigious Chateau Vigiers resort in the Western Dordogne. For everyone else, this fine French farmhouse and barn has been really well geared up and equipped for family holidays (including the dog!), so tots to teenagers can play the days away while grown-ups can relax, maybe booking an onsite massage or beauty treatment.

It stands in an acre of orchard garden with grassy space to play and a large, netted trampoline. By the back door there’s also a play area for toddlers with a Wendy House and sandpit. A lovely 9x5 metre swimming pool is heated to a minimum of 24°, rising to a toasty 28° from Easter to November and has wide corner steps so little ones can splash in the shallows. The pool has a retractable, lockable cover which can be pulled over in seconds, to maintain the temperature and for parental peace of mind. From the pool and pool terrace, guests can gaze on the half acre lower garden with beautiful views along the valley and over the golf course, snooze on cushioned loungers, have a game of table tennis and stoke up a gas or charcoal BBQ by a covered dining area, which has French doors from the kitchen. Let's not forget the luxurious hot tub on the terrace with views to die for!

The villa itself, with its beamed ceilings and tiled/oak floors, has been furnished and equipped to be comfortable and practical for families, including an exhaustive list of baby and toddler essentials for feeding time, bath time and bedtime. In the sitting room, everyone can get comfy on leather sofas, by a roaring real fire, to watch satellite channels on a 42” plasma TV or choose a family movie from a wide selection of DVD’s. There’s a good library of books in the dining room, as well as traditional board games, plus the house has unlimited Wi Fi for streaming films and gaming. The two kitchens have all mod cons, each has a breakfast table that seats four and the Farmhouse has French doors to the dining terrace overlooking the pool.

Accommodation Overview:

Fairway View House comfortably accommodates up to 12 adults, 2 children and 4 babies in cots, with two travel cots provided. The house has a total of six bedrooms, all with air conditioning, split between its two sections, with four in the 'Farmhouse' side and two in the 'Barn' side. In the 'Farmhouse' side, the 'Lavender' and 'Yellow' bedrooms are on the ground floor, with 'Rose' and 'Green' on the first floor. Lavender has a super king size bed, a day sofa that converts to a child’s single bed, a flat screen TV/DVD player, an ensuite shower room, views over golf course and direct access onto the large balcony through french doors. Plus a window and doors leading to a large balcony overlooking the pool. Yellow has a super king size bed and a large ensuite bathroom with a cast iron, antique bath, plus room for up to two cots. Rose, with views over the golf course, has a super king size bed, a day sofa that converts to a child’s single bed, a flat screen TV/DVD player, and an ensuite shower room. Green also has views over the golf course, twin beds that can be made into a super king, and an ensuite shower room. The sitting room, with its character walnut ceiling, is comfy and cosy, with leather sofas, an open fire, 42” plasma TV with satellite channels, a large selection of DVD’s and French doors to a large balcony. The dining room has a table that seats 8, with high chairs and booster seats provided, plus a library of books and numerous family board games. The farmhouse kitchen is fitted with oak units and includes a Range Master stove with electric double oven and five ring gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge freezer, children’s crockery and cutlery etc and an Italian glass table that seats four. French doors open from the kitchen onto a partly covered terrace with gas and charcoal BBQ’s and large dining tables with seating for 16, overlooking the pool and garden.

The 'Barn' section of the house boasts a lovely open-plan living area with comfortable sofa seating, dining area and fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor plus a shower room with WC. The lounge opens out on to a sweeping terrace with dining area and hot tub. Upstairs, this section of the house boasts a master bedroom with super king bed and a twin bedroom. Both bedrooms have space for a cot. There's also a large family bathroom.

Both sections of the house are linked via a small hallway between the lounges but completely independent upstairs.

Outside, the villa has an acre of grounds with glorious views over the golf course and countryside beyond. There is a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, three outside dining areas, a trampoline, wendy house, sandpit, table tennis and BBQ.

Location Information

Fairway View House is found in the much loved Western Dordogne corner of South West France, just 20 minutes from the medieval town of Bergerac. In particular, the house overlooks the manicured fairways of the magnificent Chateau Vigiers golf course, renowned as one of the finest in France and boasting a Michelin star restaurant as well as the less formal, Chai Brasserie for tasty ‘croque frites’ and afternoon teas on the terrace.

The surrounding scenery is described as a cross between the Cotswolds and Tuscany, with rolling hills and fields lined with cypress trees, ancient woodlands, swathes of sunflowers in the summer and famous Bordeaux vineyards stretching for miles.

The small village of Razac-de-Saussginac is just 5 minutes walk, with its own wine chateau, and the nearest town is St Foy-a-Grande, on the Dordogne river (7 minutes’ drive). Morning markets take place every day in the various local villages and the Sunday market in medieval Issigeac is especially recommended, followed by lunch at La Petite Treille or Chez Alain. There are many other good restaurants to try nearby, including Le Lion d’Or, just a few minutes’ drive or an easy cycle ride; relaxed Sunday lunch, including regional duck specialities, at Famille Moutier in Monestier (5 mins); and Code Bar or Chez Paou in Sigoules villages (15 mins).

Bergerac (20 mins) is an interesting medieval town to explore and sample the Perigord delicacies in countless bistros and restaurants, such as L’Imparfait, all washed down with the famous local wines. Fine wine connoisseurs are really spoilt for choice here, with so many famous Bordeaux chateau to choose from for a vineyard tour and tasting, including St Emillion and Montbazillac.

Within an hour’s drive there are lots of other fun things for families to see and do. Junior Land and Aqua Park, on the outskirts of Bergerac, has four big swimming pools with water slides and direct access to the river to have a go at canoeing. There are also ten-pin bowling and crazy golf nearby. Wallabi Aquitaine, near Agen is an amusement park and chateau, with a pirate boat, roller coasters and children’s’ rides, log flume and water rapid ride. Parc en Ciel has woodland trails, mini golf, a play area and snail museum but also aerial rope walkways slung between the trees for little monkeys over 1.2m tall.

Nearest medical services: GP in Sigoules (15 mins); A&E in Bergerac (20 mins).
Getting here: Bergerac is the nearest airport, (20 mins) which has flights from regional airports across the UK. Bordeaux airport is 60 minutes drive.

Who owns this place?

Hi, I'm Tracey and am married to Adi and live in Salisbury, Wiltshire with Holly, our elderly Golden Retriever.

We decided to create a wonderful holiday home for families with young children, after enjoying many family holidays ourselves in the Dordogne, when our children were young.

We have made many alterations to the villa over the years to ensure it is perfect for families on holiday and are continually investing and upgrading the facilities.
We have a policy of purchasing (within reason!) whatever our guests require to make their holiday special.

As owners, guests can rest assured that we are continually striving to maintain the high standards and have regular work visits to both properties out of season.

Please feel free to email or call me to chat about your holiday.

Tracey Jones

What do they love about it?

We love creating a holiday home that our guests can return to year after year as contented guests are our main motivation. Holidays are so important and it is really important that they are stress free for every member of the family. This is why I offer a complimentary concierge service from the moment you decide to book until you return home after your holiday. I can help with travel arrangements, recommend restaurants, organise wine tasting, arrange babysitting with our trusted caretakers who are mums themselves.

What do the kids love about it?

Kids adore playing in the lovely, warm, heated pool which they can enjoy whatever the weather as they can still swim under the retractable cover. They also adore the trampoline, Wendy House and sandpit and the play area. Hundreds of DVD's and satellite TV also has them smiling as well as all the traditional outdoor garden games they can enjoy with their families.
With ages ranging from toddler to teenager, there is something for everyone here. Looking at the guest book and reviews, the main praise from kids has been for the large, warm pool but they have also really enjoyed the large safe, enclosed garden where they can play for hours, the local markets with their "steak and frites" and the croissants form the local boulangerie. They also enjoy the local chateau which are set up for children and families where they can explore and act out play games. Happy kids mean happy parents!!

Very peaceful, private location 10mins from super market, 5mins to vinyards, golfcourse within walking distance. • Nothing was too much trouble from the moment we booked our family holiday to La Grange. When we informed the owners that we would be taking our 9 month old baby on his first ever holiday, they made sure we had everything we could possibly need - the gite seemed to be already well equipped which is one of the reasons we had wanted to stay there in the first place - a stress free break was key! Also not having to pack loads in the car was a bonus... but the owners had thought of so much more and provided items very happily that we were concerned we might need as first time parents - and everything was waiting for us and set up on our arrival at the beautiful gite. it made our holiday so much more relaxing knowing he was entertained, safe and happy and that we didn't have to worry about bringing too much. It was a bonus to have a pop up play pen so we could let him play happily for a few moments whilst meals and drinks were prepared - he was crawling fast! A friendly host who appreciates what it means to go on holiday with children really does make a difference and we will definitely be returning soon with even less of the kitchen sink now we know everything is kindly provided. Oh and the Disney channel and kids channels were awesome for the occasional afternoon it turned wet and we retreated inside - what a treat!
