A far cry from the high rise, fly and flop package holiday resorts that mar some of the Canary islands, Finca del Arietta is an ethically designed, luxurious, private estate close to the tranquil fishing village of Arrieta on Lanzarote's north coast. Owned by ex-pats Michelle and Tila, who live on site with their own brood of youngsters, the 30-acre coastal farm is now home to two small villas and six yurts, each sleeping from 2-8, and all designed following the principles of Lanzarote's most famous architect, Caesar Manrique - with sympathy towards the natural beauty of the location and protection of the environment.
All sixteen properties, enjoy shared use of the solar heated, outdoor pool and second jet pool, as well as the kids play areasand access to the cluster of friendly farm animals including Molly the donkey. The traditional Canarian fishing village of Arietta with its sandy beach and small selection of shops and cafe bars is within 300m walk, although via an uneven farm track, which can be tricky to navigate with buggies in the dark, so a torch is recommended if you're planning on eating at the sea front restaurant.
The 40 square metre Eco Garden Cottage is set in the gardens on the estate of 'Finca de Arrieta' and has been sympathetically designed to blend-in with its setting. It can accommodate up to 4 guests plu a cot in an extra large king-sized double bedroom and a sofabed in the lounge, although it is best suited to a family, rather than two couples, since the bedroom does not have doors. The contemporary design includes split level, open-plan living room, kitchen area and a bedroom. The interiots have been tastefully styled to create a cosy cottage feel using woodand local stone flooring. The shower room (baby bath provided) has a walk in stone shower and free standing marble sink. It has a fully fitted kitchen and lounge area with views over to the sea, surrounding fields and mountains. The cottage has a walled private terrace with uninterrupted sea views, perfect for relaxing and catching some sunshine on the teak wood loungers, or an evening BBQ and al fresco dining. Prices are based on 2 guests, additional guests stay for €10 per person, per night.
The owner, Michelle recommends a very good local Lanzarote car hire company hey offer good quality cars, child seats, quick car collection, fully compressive insurance, free additional driver, included and very importantly no hidden extras!

Unlike many of Spain's popular holiday spots, Lanzarote has been protected heavy, high rise, development thanks to local artist César Manrique who's strong architectural influence can be seen in the fact that the island has kept primarily to its traditional white washed houses and low-rise buildings.
Finca de Arrieta is set just 300 metres from the beach and centre of the small village of Arrieta on Lanzarote's peaceful north coast. The village is little changed by the passage of time and unspoilt by mass tourism. Here visitors will still witness first hand fishermen in their traditional wood fishing boats and farmers ploughing fields with their donkeys.
The village has a cluster of shops, seafront restaurants and cafés, including some good but simple fish bistros. Arrieta has two beaches, one in the village next to Fisherman’s Cottage and the other in front of "Finca de Arrieta". These are child friendly beaches and on the main sandy beach there is a beach bar, restaurant, play park and toilet/shower facilities. For any fishing equipment and general supplies the Petrol station/ Mini Market at the entrance to the village is open from 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
For a small, traditional village, Arietta is well blessed with seafood eateries, five of which have seaside terraces or beach locations. The informal El Kiosko does a good line in tapas and a huge paella for Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes. Whilst, at the other end of the beach, Casa de la Playa is highly rated for more formal meals.
Finca de Arietta's owner, Michelle, lives on site with her four children and is a fabulous resource for planning excursions, activities or meals out, just ask!
Getting There: Finca Arietta is approx. 30mins from Lanzarote's airport. Taxi transfers can be arranged via the owner after booking, as can special car rental rates.

Whilst there was a great covered room with a load of toys for our Toddler we think there's definetly room for improvement for Toddlers to get about. There were a number of large steps near to get to the play area and paths had intermittent slabs so not suitable for a pushchair and tricky for our 16 Mth old to toddle about. Also children's play area had no cover so could only use early morning and evening. That aside we had a fantastic time in this lovely accommodation in a beautiful quiet location.Review dated 05/10/2014
Wonderful retreat in the unspoilt north of Lanzarote. The team could not have been more welcoming and helpful. A great experience to live 'off grid' for a week, in a relaxed and friendly setting. We particularly enjoyed chilling out in the lounge area by the pool.Review dated 18/11/2013
Our holiday was absolutely brilliant, the Finca de arrieta is an amazing place to stay, very welcoming, and relaxing. Lanzarote deserves a different reputation, it has so much to offer! Our girls really enjoyed it too, loads of things on the Finca to keep them happy. We'll be going back I am sure.Review dated 03/11/2009
we had a fantastic 2 week stay in the Eco Yurt Suite this August. The Finca is a brilliant set-up and offers a lot for the family, lazing by the pool on the great Morrocan daybed, taking daytrips to the surprisingly wonderful things the island has to offer, having a donkey ride on Mollie, collecting the eggs in the morning from the hens. It was so lovely we'd definitely like to go back, this is from a family who has never returned anywhere before! Don't be put off by any preconceptions you might have of the isalnd (we had plenty!) this place is an absolute gem, and walking distance form the beach and lovely resturants, activities for kids, and grown-ups, brilliant friendly hosts, a definite thumbs up from us!Review dated 03/11/2009
This was our first holiday as a family, and it was truly one to remember and cherish. We stayed in the Yurt Suite - it was really beautiful and stylish and finished to a very high standard and extremely comfortable and suitable for our 1 yr old to roam around. Michelle and Tila provided all the necessary equipment for us and most importantly a warm welcome. The activities on site, from the pool to collecting eggs, the trampoline and the donkey ride were great entertainment for both parents and child! Our kind hosts should be very proud of their achievements in creating a stylish, beautiful environmentally friendly experience for their guests. I would highly recommend a stay here, and look forward to hopefully going back in the near futureReview dated 03/11/2009
