BFB's Overview

Nestled amid Devon’s picturesque Blackdown Hills, yet just 20-minutes from the M5, Stonehayes Farm is a scenically set cluster of cottages that are ideal for making a quick escape to the country. Plus, with the Jurassic coast its quintessential seaside towns less than half an hour’s drive away, days on the beach will definitely be on the cards as well!

The Grade-II listed farm is a former thatched Devon long house with barns and outbuildings which owners Les and Lesley have transformed into contemporary, 4-star holiday cottages. Each of the five cottages has its own individual charm and combines character features such as exposed original stone walls and beamed ceilings with contemporary indulgences such as log burning stoves, cosy leather sofas, flat screen TVs, DVD players and granite-topped kitchens equipped with all modern amenities.

Besides the lovely cottages themselves, Stonehayes Farm is set in 17-acres of garden and grounds which lead to the small River Luv. Children will be fans of the 14ft trampoline and climbing frame with swing and slides. To keep everyone occupied rain or shine, the cottages also share a large games room, complete with table football, table tennis, pool table and darts. Each of the cottages have their own grassy area with outdoor dining furniture and barbecue, so it’s well worth paying a visit to the region’s farm shops or the coast to feast on home reared meats, fantastic fresh fish and Somerset cider.

Accommodation Overview:

Shippen sleeps 6+cots in a first-floor double with 5ft double bed and ensuite bathroom, and two ground-floor twin bedrooms, each with two singles that can be attached to become 6ft doubles. The ground floor bedrooms share a shower room on the same floor. The comfortable lounge has two sofas and an arm chair, whilst the kitchen is equipped with washer dryer, dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge, freezer, wine cooler and microwave. Outside, there is a private garden with lovely views towards Dumpton Hill, a BBQ and dining furniture.

Honiton Pottery Shop and Milkshake Bar is well worth a visit, where little messy monsters can ‘throw’ and paint pots, make hand and foot print plaques, tuck into knickerbockerglories and choose an exotic smoothie.

Nearby Bartletts Farm Shop near Honiton has a butchery for home reared meats, a deli, bakery, fruit and veg making it an ideal spot for picking up a long list of local goodies!

Besides exploring the surrounding rolling countryside, country lanes and thatched cottage villages, Stonehayes Farm is less than half an hour’s drive from lovely seaside towns and beaches including, Beer (8 miles), Sidmouth (10 miles) Lyme Regis (14 miles ) and Branscombe (13 miles). Families can go fossil hunting along the rocky shores around Lyme Regis, meet furry long-eared friends at Sidmouth’s Donkey Sanctuary and go train crazy at Beer’s Pecorama. • Great cottages, toddlers love feeding the animals, would highly recommend Stonehayes (not just for Lesley's homemade bread...!)Review dated 11/09/2016

  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Linhay. Spacious and immaculate accommodation, with wonderful views of the countryside. Also all the conveniences were provided for our two young children, who loved being on the farm with all the animals. Big thanks to the lovely owners, Les and Lesley.Review dated 27/03/2016

  • we had a fabulous time and would highly recommend it. Loved the welcome pack and cut flowers in vases and goose down duvets .Review dated 13/06/2015

  • Our cottage (Linhay) was really nice, well equipped and perfect for what we needed. Lovely rural setting and great for the kids to be able to play freely outdoors and interact with the animals. Little touches like the fresh bread, scones and eggs on arrival were also great! Great hosts who are friendly and helpful when we needed a car garage too. Would highly recommend Stonehay to families with toddlers.Review dated 17/06/2013

  • We've just returned from a midweek break staying in the Linhay and I must say we have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The accommodation is fantastic, we loved the open plan layout and the view from the kitchen table is wonderful. The children loved collecting the eggs, feeding the animals and playing on the outdoor play equipment. Les and Lesley, the owners, made us feel very welcome and the welcome basket was in a league of its own with home made bread, jam and butter with fresh eggs and a bottle of wine. And the Stonehayes farm reared bacon and sausages are a must. A little piece of paradise hidden in the English countryside.Review dated 25/05/2013
