For
three generations, Casale I Perugini has been owned by the same family,
bought by Great-Grandpa as a country retreat in the 1950’s and becoming
part of Italy’s rural
tourism revolution in the ‘80’s. I Perugini now comprises eight
apartments with the
facilities, ambiance and service of a relaxing boutique hotel, all in
the safe
hands of great granddaughter Valentina who lives in one of the
apartments with her
partner Luca. Valentina is always on hand and happy to help, being the
epitome of
warm Umbrian hospitality and conviviality.
Originally
a farmhouse, Casale I Perugini dates back to the 1800’s and is
surrounded by
ancient oak trees, tall pines and depending on the season, fields of
corn, wheat
and sunflowers - the classic Umbrian landscape. The rural setting is
ideal for
escaping the hectic pace of family life back home, with a typical
Italian
village just a mile away plus Lake Tresimeno with its beach areas, and
the Umbrian capital of Perugia
and its handy airport only around 20-25
minutes
drive.
In
their conversion of the farmhouse, the owners have created spacious apartments ranging from those suited to just a
couples and a baby, up to those large enough for families of six, each with their own dining table and
parasol on the big gravel terrace, plus use of a barbecue. In July and August, the
smell of the complimentary fresh Italian coffee being served on the terrace is also enough to
rouse the most exhausted parents from good nights’ sleep.
The
gardens provide plenty of space for children to play, including a 5-a-side football
pitch, volleyball court, table tennis and ‘Bocce’ boules area, whilst grown ups
can laze blissfully on the loungers by the 7.5x15metre pool, book in hand. The owners also
offer high summer activities including welcome aperitifs, Monday morning play
times, moonlight swims, guided hikes up Monte Tezio and dinners at the local ‘Sagra’
festivals.
The apartments themselves are roomy, light and airy, finished and furnished
in traditional Umbrian style, including feature stone walls and wrought iron
beds, fully fitted kitchens and comfy living areas. Handy baby-friendly gear and toys
can also be provided (see 'Fast Facts' for details) and if guests have any other specific
requirements, Valentina can usually be found at the Casale’s reception.
Accommodation Overview:
Casale I Perugini consists
of two apartments with one bedroom for 2/3 people, four apartments with two
bedrooms for 4/5 people and two apartments with two bedrooms for up to 5/6
people.
The apartments for up to 3 guests comprise of 1- bedroom with a queen-sized bed and space for a cot, a bathroom,
a living room, with space for adding a bed for a 3rd guest, and a full
kitchen. The 1-bedroom apartments are located on the front side of the house, facing
one of the gardens.
Casale I
Perugini is located at the heart of Umbria, which snuggles up to ever popular
Tuscany so visitors can enjoy all the highlights of these two top Italian destinations.
The village of Colle Umberto is just 1.5km from the apartments, with handy
local amenities including a mini-market, bakery, pharmacy, bank, bar and pizzeria.
The apartments are also only 8km (15 minutes drive) from Umbria’s capital, Perugia,
renowned as an historic university town with a happening annual Jazz festival
and the home of Baci chocolates. A chocolate factory tour should keep wannabe
Willy Wonkers sweet plus the EuroChocolate Festival in October is a chocoholics
dream.
The
backdrop for I Perugini is Monte Tezio and the walk to the top, which takes
around an hour, is worth the effort for the superb views over the surrounding
national park and Umbrian scenery. Lake Trasimeno (15 minutes drive) is the
ideal setting for family days out, with nine public beaches for picnics, paddling,
swimming and watersports, plus boat trips to the lake’s islands and good fish
restaurants.
Within
half an hour’s drive, Assisi is Umbria’s most famous tourist mecca, thanks to
the mighty basilica in honour of St Francis. Also close by is the scenic town of Gubbio with its 2-person 'basket-style' funicular, which is loved by adventurous tots, especially when followed by delicious gelato in one of the towns numerous ice cream parlours... just be sure to eat it after and not before the ride! Other beautiful Umbrian towns nearby include Todi, Orvieto,
Spello and Cortona or guests could stroll around the incredibly unspoilt Tuscan
walled town of Siena. The Renaissance treasure house city of Florence is also
only 90 minutes away.

Hello I am Valentina, born and raised in Umbria and the owner of “Casale I Perugini”. This house, which was once a simple farm, I was handed down from my great-grandfather, who, in the 50’s, bought it as his country residence.
In the early 80's my parents decided to turn the farmhouse into one of the first rustic accommodations, following a new trail that was slowly establishing in those years, that of rural tourism.
For some years I have been dealing with the Casale full time, it is a job that I am passionate about and that gives me the opportunity of always being in contact with people of different cultures from around the world. I live in one of the apartments of the Casale, so I will be present every day and I will look after all your needs.
If you’ll be guests of Casale I Perugini you’ll find out that my purpose is to ensure that you enjoy the taste of a real Italian holidaycharacterized by relaxation, conviviality and good food.

A beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Valentina and her family were so welcoming and had all the baby paraphernalia you would need ready and waiting for us. A perfect environment for a 14 month old. Plenty to explore and alongside a super play area we were given a box of toys for our apartment too. The pool is a great size. Big enough to swim laps but great for kids too. Overall, a superb place to stay. Caterina also put on a tiramisu cooking class for all of the guests. What a lovely little extra...
We had an amazing week. Valentina and Caterina were really friendly and helpful and put a lot of effort into providing fun things for our son plus the useful stuff. The setting was beautiful and location great for exploring Umbria
Casale i Perugini is well situated on 15 minutes drive from Perugia and 15 minutes from the lake Trasimano, both worth several visits. This makes it possible to make quite different outings without being too long in the car with a baby or toddler.
FYI, the casale closes in the first or second week of october to open again for Easter.
Great welcome
