BFB's Overview.

Thanks to Tuscany and Umbria so often hogging the limelight, Le Marche is still a relatively undiscovered gem in Italy’s hot list of dreamy destinations. Dean and Lesley discovered their dream home here in 2006, in the form of the 19th century listed country house Casa Mogliano which they’ve lovingly and sensitively restored to include four spacious apartments accommodating from two to five people.

Surrounded by stunning scenery as far as the eye can see, Casa Mogliano provides a glorious setting to get away from it all, relax and enjoy quality time as a family. The rolling countryside is framed by the snow-topped Sibillini Mountains, yellow sunflower fields are spectacular in summer and drinking in the sunsets with a glass of chilled Prosecco is as good as it gets. What’s more, Casa Mogliano is also only a 30-minute drive from beaches, resorts and harbour towns of Italy’s Adriatic coast so guests can enjoy the very best of both worlds. Foodies will be especially tempted with the variety of local family-friendly restaurants where the use of fresh, top quality produce prepared with the minimum of fuss is of utmost importance. If you love your wine why not join Dean on a fun wine tasting afternoon in the grounds of a local vineyard where children are very welcome and can happily play and enjoy sampling the local cheeses and salamis.

Casa Mogliano itself is a magnificent, sun-bleached mansion set in immaculate gardens with a panoramic, fenced swimming pool. Grown-ups can happily laze away the days reclining on cushioned loungers while children play on the manicured lawns or cool off in the pool. There are plenty of outside dining areas including two terraces, a nice shady gazebo, and tables in the gardens. Two bbq’s are also available if you fancy cooking al fresco. Stretch your legs with a stroll up the private driveway to visit their friendly furry neighbors - horses, sheep and a very popular lama! The roomy apartments have been designed and finished to high standards, combining original features with luxurious modern comforts, from rich chestnut ceilings and stone tiled floors to antique furnishings and leather sofas. The essential family entertainment includes 32” flat-screen TV, DVD player, wireless Bluetooth speaker, and WiFi, plus an extensive library of books and films and a good selection of indoor and outdoor toys from play kitchens to paddling pools. The apartments have heating and air conditioning, well equipped fitted kitchens and all the helpful baby gear you’ll need. For a night off cooking, treat yourself to a specially arranged take-away dinner from an excellent local restaurant, or if you fancy a romantic night out without the kids, evening babysitting is also available.

Location Information

Away from Tuscany and Umbria’s tourist honeypots Le Marche is an enticing combination of rolling countryside and rugged mountains, ancient hilltop villages, beautiful cities, and the Adriatic coastline. Besides the natural beauty, guests at Casa Mogliano are spoilt with a wealth of culture, history, art, architecture, excellent local cuisine, and great wine.
Surrounded by stunning countryside, the cluster is just a fifteen-minute walk (2 minutes drive) to the ancient unspoilt town of Mogliano. The town has all the essential amenities of pavement cafe bars, trattorias, shops, and supermarkets but simply wandering around the historic and atmospheric Centro Storico is a pleasure. The market day provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy a slice of lively and colourful Italian life while stocking up on local produce for a family feast or picnic. Have a break from the pool and take your little ones for a play in the recently improved park where you’ll be tempted by the irresistible smells coming from the wood oven pizzeria perfectly situated on the grounds of the park. Just round the corner from the park, you’ll find Zanzibar where you’ll be able to work through the long list of ice cream flavours during your holiday.

Throughout the region, there are countless, unspoilt hill top towns and cities to explore. Urbino is widely acknowledged as one of the centres of the amazing Italian Renaissance while Ascoli Piceno, built-in Travertine Marble, features two elegant and buzzing Piazzas to watch the world go by.
The coast is just 30 minutes away and under an hour’s drive from the cluster, you’ll find Porto San Giorgio, a pretty coastal town with elegant villas, safe blue flag sandy beaches complete with children’s play areas and a choice of family-friendly restaurants – a perfect day on the coast! Another Adriatic highlight is Monte Conero Natural Park, with dramatic sea cliffs and walks to secluded coves.

Just a 10-minute car journey will take you to the Fiastra Abbey Nature Reserve where you’ll find picnic areas, walks suitable for pushchairs and people with restricted mobility, a riding centre, bike hire, bird hides (some with easy access)bars, restaurants, pizzerias, gift shops and a great agriturismo offering simple but delicious food in their gardens with plenty of animals and a small play area to keep the little ones occupied.

The Sibillini National Park is a natural adventure playground for every outdoor pursuit from mountain biking and hiking to winter skiing. Pedalo and canoe hire on Lake Fiastra is a great family favourite. Other things for families to see and do include the underground lakes and alabaster formations of the Frassisi caves, one of the largest networks in Europe, a fun water park within an hour’s drive and a zoo at Ancona.

In the unlikely event that you run out of things to do in Le Marche, Casa Mogliano is just over an hour away from the famous towns and cities of Assisi, Perugia, and Spoletto in Umbria.

Getting There: The nearest airports are Ancona (1 hour), Perugia (1.5 hours), Rimini and Pescara (2hrs) and Bologna and Rome (3hrs). Car hire is recommended to do full justice to the beautiful region of Le Marche and the owners can arrange competitive rates through a local car hire company Rentpro.

Who owns this place?

Hello, we're Dean, Lesley Grace. We've lived in Italy for 10 years now with our daughter Grace, who is probably more Italian than English now! We've always been in love with this stunning country, the relaxed way of life, the delicious cuisine, the beautiful countryside and not forgetting the great wine. We used to be in the insurance industry back in the UK and decided to make a break from the rat race and set up a little piece of tranquillity here in Le Marche which we love sharing with our guests. We live on site and love sharing our local knowledge with you, ensuring that you get the most out of your holiday. Marche is relatively unknown but trust us, you won't be disappointed.

Day out for Grace's birthday

What do they love about it?

You'll love the relaxed atmosphere here, our beautifully landscaped gardens to relax in whilst your little ones play safely. The local restaurants are extremely child friendly and you'll be very surprised at the local prices. Your apartments are beautifully furnished and have everything you'll need to enjoy your stay. Evening babysitting is available so why not treat yourselves to a night out - you can even walk to our local restaurants! There's lots to see in Marche and we're centrally placed to access the whole area easily. Enjoy a fun wine tasting afternoon with Dean at our local award winning vineyard and visit a leather workshop in Mogliano and indulge yourself with a hand made leather bag at hugely discounted prices.

What do the kids love about it?

12 x 6 metre pool is a huge attraction with plenty of fun inflatable. Toys and a large dvd library are on hand for when they need a break from the pool. How about a play in the local park in Mogliano which also has a pizzeria within the park - life doesn't get much better than playing and eating pizza! And, you can sit outside and watch your little ones having fun with a cold glass of Prosecco, or beer! How about the beach for the day. Lots of blue flag beaches with play areas and we'll lend you some buckets and spades to take with you. Take a 10 minute drive to a local Abbey with plenty of open space for running around, a delicious icecream cafe, horse riding, bike hire and a rustic agriturismo offering delicious food with park area and animals to keep your little ones entertained. A day in the mountains on Lake Fiastra where you can hire boats and go swimming.

  • We had a lovely holiday at Caserma Carina - beautiful setting, lovely, welcoming hosts and overall a great place to stay with little ones (we took our 8 month old). Very tranquil and picturesque surroundings but also within easy reach of mountains, lakes and the seaside. We would definitely recommend it!Review dated 26/05/2018

  • We stayed at Caserma Carina with our 15 month old son in May 2016. The property was ideal for travel with a toddler. Baby equipment and some toys provided in the apartment, plenty of outdoor space for him to run around, a gated pool and outdoor toys to play with. It's only a 5 minute drive into Mogliano where there are restaurants, shops and a play park. All in all a fabulous holiday which was really made by the hospitality of Dean, Lesley and Grace. We were made to feel welcome from the second we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. They were always on hand to offer suggestions of things to do, places to eat and provide directions. They even provided a bucket and spade for our trip to the beach. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to my friends and I think we will be back for another stay soon.Review dated 22/05/2016

  • We had a wonderful relaxing weeks stay at the Caserma Carina with our 10 month old baby. The set up is fantastic and very baby friendly with cot, high chair, baby baths and toys already there. Very peaceful and quiet. The grounds were beautiful and we were able to really relax and enjoy the shady garden and pool whilst our baby napped and there was great wifi connection so our monitor could be taken outside. The honesty bar meant we got to sample the wonderful wines from the region without having to venture out although we did enjoy the wine tasting with Dean and would recommend it. The weather was quite hot whilst we were there so it may have been better to go a little earlier in the year with our baby but the air conditioned apartments meant that we stayed cool. We would definatly recommend staying here and would love to return again and be able to explore the beautiful region a little more. Dean, Lesley and Grace were wonderfu ...Review dated 19/07/2015

  • We had a lovely week's stay in September 2013 in Caserma Carina with our one-year-old. It is a thoroughly beautiful spot and Mogliano is a peaceful, charming town. Dean Lesley and Grace are great hosts and there was lots of baby equipment (cot, high chair etc) for us to borrow.Review dated 13/01/2014

  • We had an absolutely fantastic holiday at Caserma Carina. Thanks to the hospitality of the owners, Dean, Lesley and Grace, it felt like we were visiting old friends. The location, coupled with the fact that there are only 4 apartments made for a very friendly and safe holiday for ourselves and our 17 month old son. We were provided with a box of toys for our apartment and outside the pool is gated in meaning that he couldn't get to it without one of us being with him. The honesty bar meant that we didn't even need to go out in the evenings. We would have no hesitation in recommending this to others and would love to go again next year!Review dated 22/08/2013
