BFB's Overview

This brilliant cottage cluster set just outside Bude on the north Cornwall coast not only has all the ingredients of a very successful family holiday at any time of year but is a veritable self-contained ‘village’ of fun for adults and children alike!

Picture the scene…. You’ve settled into your suitably seaside-chic cottage, the little ones have burned off all their pent up energy from the journey in the indoor or outdoor playrooms and pools and have settled in for early night, a delicious gourmet ready meal has been delivered to the cottage and is warming in the oven and you are soaking in the hot tub… perfect!

There are 18 picture-perfect residences to choose from at Broomhill (view them all here) ranging from Cornish cob barns, stables, the Housekeepers Cottage, the Manor House Apartment and Gate Keepers Lodge. All have been converted and upgraded in a fresh, contemporary style, whilst keeping their character and being especially well kitted out for babies and toddlers, from cots, high chairs and stair-gates to plastic crockery and black out blinds (full list in Fast Facts section). The cottages are arranged in traffic free courtyards which are separate from designated parking areas and the whole village is down a private drive, ½ a mile from the road, making it all the more relaxing for families to roam freely. Several of the cottages have enclosed gardens for children to play and hot tubs for parents to de-stress in soothing bubbles.

Besides the comfort of the cottages, it’s all the extra facilities at the family-run Broomhill Manor that make holidays here with little ones so stress free. A big play room, dedicated to under 6’s, is full of early learning toys and books, plus there’s a games room for older children with a pool table, table football and table tennis. In the car free village, children can free range to the outdoor play areas and parents will struggle to tear them away from the swings, slide, climbing frame, sand pit, trampoline, play fort and Wendy house. An indoor swimming pool is heated to a toasty, toddler friendly 30 degrees and in the warm summer months there’s a heated outdoor pool as well. Grown-ups can relax in the sauna or Jacuzzi, or have a work out in the gym, and mums can pamper themselves with a variety of spa treatments.

When it comes to eating and drinking at Broomhill, the in-cottage dining is always a big hit, with local chef Nicky lovingly preparing a range of dishes which are delivered to the door, all ready to be popped in the oven. In July and August, fresh croissants are available each morning and 3 local supermarkets will deliver groceries to the cottages. There’s also a private bar at Broomhill which is family friendly and features a full size snooker table as well as a selection of board games.

One other extra facet to Broomhill Manor is the professional riding stables onsite, where toddlers can have their first pony ride and older children can book lessons, hacks and beach rides (for over 14s) or take part in gymkhanas.

Accommodation overview
Broomhill Manor comprises 17 cottages and 1 apartment sleeping 2 to 6 people and all with room for at least one cot, which can be provided.

Woodlark Cottage (sleeps 5 plus a baby) is one of six cottages converted from the original Stable Courtyard. The cottage is all on one level, with comfortable sofas, large HD TV, DVD/Blu ray player and CD system in the airy, contemporary living room, a dining table for 6 and a fully fitted Shaker style kitchen with a cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. Besides the front doors opening to the sunny courtyard, patio doors lead from the living room to a private, enclosed garden with a hot tub, table seating and a gas-fired Australian BBQ. The cottage has two bedrooms: one with a double bed; and the second with one single bed, bunk beds and space for a cot. Beds are made up with fresh white cotton linen and fluffy towels are included. Woodlark Cottage has a fully tiled bathroom with a bath/power shower and a heated towel rail. The Cottage has fully controllable central heating throughout and free Wi Fi.

Location Information

Broomhill Manor enjoys a prime location, just outside the seaside town of Bude on the North Cornwall coast. The cottages are set in 18 acres of private grounds, including pretty gardens and woodland trails for a gentle stroll and, venturing just a little further, ( 15 minutes walk), the villages of Poughill and Stratton both have family friendly pubs serving good food. Sunday Lunch at The Tree in Stratton is a local institution so booking ahead is strongly advised.

Bude and its beaches are also within walking distance from Broomhill, following a country track (25 minutes walk), and there are taxis in town to save the walk back. Bude’s fabulous beaches are a mecca for surfers, especially the expanse of breakers in Widemouth Bay, but the shores are also patrolled by lifeguards from May to September and the man-made sea pool at Summerleaze is perfectly calm and sheltered for smaller children.

For stocking up on local produce and essential provisions, as well as favourite seaside treats and a choice of places to eat, Bude has all the shops, cafes, restaurants and take-aways families will need. There is a Morrisons supermarket for the everyday stuff but Bude is also establishing its foody reputation through many artisan food shops, with owners who pride themselves of having caught, reared or made their products themselves. With the best bread in town at Lansdown Bakery and local cheeses, hams and olives from Lansdown Dairy, families have the makings of a great picnic, then the local fishmonger as the catch of the day covered and North Cornwall Wines will happily recommend the perfect accompaniment. From May to September, a local food market regularly sets up along by the canal in Bude, with yet more tempting goodies from Cornish pasties and pies to international delicacies. A little further afield in Launceston, (19 miles) the award winning butcher, Philip Warren is well worth a visit to buy fabulous meats for a barbecue, being recommended by John Torode and supplying many Michelin restaurants in London.

Among the wide choice of restaurants in Bude, the majority are family friendly and three recommendations include Elements Italian bistro, The Bank for Spanish tapas and Life’s a Beach Cafe which turns into a fish restaurant by night.

Broomhill Manor is just off the ‘Atlantic Highway’ of the A39 which means a wide variety of fun things for families to see and do are within half an hour’s drive. The award-winning Milky Way amusement park (20 mins) includes roller coasters, dodgems, a living maze, birds of prey displays and a huge indoor play area, with giant slides and an assault course. Near Launceston (30 mins) Trethorne Fun Park has adventure playgrounds and a 45,000 sq ft indoor play area, as well as 10-pin bowling and a petting corner to meet llamas, goats and lambs. ‘Next door’ to Trethorne Park, Hidden valley is a nature reserve with the added attractions of a miniature railway, Hobbit’s Garden, treasure hunt-style trails and scrummy homemade cakes in the cafe. Alpaca Farm (20 mins) boasts fabulous cream teas after following the trails or taking a safari to see the cute, woolly creatures, and at Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre ( 20 mins) children can watch otters playing and being fed up close. 1 hr 15 from Broomhill, The Monkey Sanctuary at Looe is always a winner too.

Nearest medical services: GP practice and 24-hour minor injuries hospital at Stratton (0.5 miles)

Who owns this place?

Welcome to Broomhill Manor!

When it comes to booking a holiday – you are probably looking for something that combines luxury and relaxation for you, with plenty to keep children of all ages happy, too.

Broomhill Manor’s small collection of self-catering cottages, set in beautiful, private grounds, are within walking distance of the quaint seaside town of Bude on the North Cornwall coast.

Broomhill Manor is owned by Alan and Linda who live there with their twins (one of each!) and pet dog, Sophie. "Being family owned and run, we are on hand at all times to make sure your holiday is everything you want it to be. Our aim is to provide a first class and memorable holiday for all the family."

The management team!

What do they love about it?

Inspired by the clean air and pace of life, Cornwall gave our toddler twins more freedom and access to nature than they had previously known.

We moved to Cornwall in 2006, when our twins were just 4 years old. The community spirit and seaside location were a bonus which provided such a variety of things to entertain and develop the children in their early years and to help them appreciate the world around them. This gave us first hand experience to understand things that toddlers enjoy doing – some of them on our own doorstep at Broomhill Manor and some within 2 or 3 miles of here.

So the kids were very happy in their new environment - but what about mum and dad? Well, we just love the peaceful environment, the relaxing pace of life and of course, use of all the facilities we have on tap such as the indoor pool, gym and sauna! In the summer, the outdoor pool becomes a real sun-trap and the wonderful gardens take on a life of their own, full of colours which change every day - a perfect retreat with a mug of tea and a good book!
And when we really want to spoil ourselves, we indulge with one of Hazel's amazing massages, or Nicky's delicious meals - life's pretty good when you put it like that!

What do the kids love about it?

Our young visitors are often torn between what to do first!

We always give new guests a tour around Broomhill Manor soon after they arrive, to help them find everything more easily. It wouldn't be the first time that a toddler has burst in to tears at being moved on from the sand pit or the playroom, but fortunately there is always something even more exciting around the next corner to pacify them as we walk around the facilities and grounds!

Here are some of their favourite things:

  • Swimming in the heated Indoor pool
  • Playing with all the toys in the under 6's playroom
  • Challenging dad at table football
  • Sleeping in a bunk bed for the first time
  • Having a BBQ right outside their cottage
  • Jumping on the trampoline
  • Running round and round on the lawn
  • Building a sand castle
  • Feeding the ponies and having a pony ride
  • Cycling around the private lanes
  • Trying tennis for the first time
They draw us lots of pictures in the visitor books, so we know these things feature highly!! There are also many things they enjoy doing in the local area which are very exciting for toddlers - especially when doing them for the first time. Here's our blog with a list of challenges for your little ones to try before they start school - and the best news is that most of them are free!
