For as long as we at BFB can remember, Artagnan has had an unshakeable slot on our 'Best Rated By Past Guests' charts. A quick glance at the reviews show a glowing endorsement of the amazing 'family rejuvenation' formula offered by friendly hosts and owners, the Coleman family who live in the barn next door and are completely dedicated to ensuring guests enjoy the most relaxing stay possible in this wonderfully tranquil and unspoilt part of rural France.
The warm welcome begins before guests arrive with a 'travel lightly' service that sees the Coleman's offer to do any and all grocery and baby supplies shopping needed in advance and at cost price, followed by a menu of pre-bookable gourmet meals for delivery any or all days during the stay. Once guests arrive, they are treated to a chilled bottle of champagne, fully-stocked fridge and food cupboards, thanks to the pre-arrival shop. The next day, at a convenient time, welcome drinks are offered at the Colemans with a selection of the best local wines with local foie gras, smoked trout from the nearby Pyrenees and nibbles. At this time, mini guests usually get to know the Colemans, and parents gather up tips and advice from Tim and Razia. They'll also get a chance to see the play/crafts room within the Coleman's barn that is open for fun supervised activities and babysitting by Razia for up to 20 hours a week (max. 4 children). Razia previously worked in "theatre in education" and trys to get a feel for what interests each mini guest and designs afun activities accordingly. These often include baking, cooking, arts and crafts, role play and inside and outside games. All childcare takes place in the open plan barn next door to Artagnan and babysitting is available in the evenings at Artagnan too. This allows parents to plan sightseeing days, spa, sports or just some lie-ins and long lazy lunches, safe in the knowledge their little ones are having fun. The lie-ins can begin as early as the next morning, when there's also a special first day breakfast pastries and baguettes delivery offered by the generous hosts.
As the feedback suggests, Artagnan really is a special place to relax and enjoy memorable times for all the family.
This magnificent 18th century stone house was once home to the 'master of the village', boasting beautiful views that, with the exception of the glistening swimming pool (heated), have hardly changed since. Its current owners, Tim and Razia have renovated the house to a very high standard, giving it a lovely blend of casual elegance and fantastic facilities for pre-school families. Most importantly, and probably thanks to their own experiences, they've given it just the right mix of toys, play gear and grown-up touches that allows parents freedom to relax and feel indulged.
Inside, the elegant building has been tastefully restored and comfortably furnished with a mixture of antiques and local rustic pieces. Many original features have been retained - stone arches and walls, wooden floors and beams. On the ground floor is a living room with a beautiful arched window, a sitting room with a Gascon fireplace, a very well-equipped kitchen/dining room (with many cook books), a laundry room and a separate WC. A large selection of CDs is provided. Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom with en suite bathroom including a separate shower unit, bath, basin and WC. Stylish grab handles have been fitted to the bath, WC and shower for those who may need assistance, making getting in and out a little easier.
The first floor has a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a WC and a dressing room, a twin bedroom (beds can be put together to make a double), a twin bedroom with two large single "lits bateaux", and a bathroom with a WC. The high quality linens, bath and pool towels from The White Company that are supplied typify Razia and Tim's commitment to attention to detail in ensuring guests get the most from their stay. The fantastic feedback from past guests is well deserved and a good indication of just how difficult it is to tear yourself away at the end of a stay!
PLEASE NOTE: A two week booking period includes a mid stay 3 hours cleaning, including a change of The White Company linen and towels.
Artagnan is set on the outskirts of a small village, around 10 minutes drive of the shops, restaurants and supermarkets of Trie-Sur-Baise or Mielan. An impressive new water park is just 15 mins away in Mirande, which also has a supermarket, restaurants and a popular country music club. Beautiful medieval Tillac is just over the hill and Marciac is 30mins (25kms) away. A nature reserve in Puydarieux is a 15 minute drive away for nature and birds lovers and a great spot for a picnic.
The picturesque cathedral town of Auch is half an hour away and is home to a good selection of boutiques and restaurants. There are three 18 hole golf courses, horse/pony riding nearby which is highly recommended and white water rafting at the foot of the Pyrenees. The Coleman family keep a large folder of suggestions and advice on places to visit and things to do locally, in the house, and are also on hand to assist with any special arrangements including spa and golf bookings.

Wonderfully attentive & friendly hosts, Razia & Tim have thought of everything for a relaxing family stay. We had a fantastic time with grandparents & two under 3 yr olds (infant & boisterous little boy) who enjoyed the vast array of outdoor activities, the chickens, toys, dvds & best of all riding on the tractor! Another positive is that the pool is heated & slightly warmer than other 'heated' pools we have used making the learning experience much more enjoyable for our little ones.
My boy was really excited when Razia came to babysit one evening, "She's here, Mummy, she's here!" after having so much fun the day before baking biscuits. A wonderful holiday for all of us with all the comforts also provided for the grown ups too (the honesty wine cellar is a genius idea!), we will certainly be back if we can find availability next year!Review dated 24/09/2017
We have visited Artagnan for the last 4 years - an indication of how great it is!! We absolutely love the area - for the very fact that it is rural, with a lot of local farming and its life is simple. Tim & Razia and their family go the extra mile to really make it a holiday too. Their brilliant idea of doing 3.5 hours of childcare most mornings means that the parents can have a holiday too in the knowledge that the children are having a great time. It is the perfect formula for us!Review dated 23/08/2017
Beautiful property and location, the lovely Coleman family couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Our boys loved spending time in the 'holiday club' - baking, crafts, feeding the animals, and the house has everything you need and more for the most relaxing holiday possible with children! A magic combination.Review dated 07/10/2016
We have been to Artagnan for our main summer holiday for two years running. It is simply the best possible rural, peaceful holiday imaginable especially for those families with kids. The fourth bedroom is also in a different part of the house offering the opportunity for grandparents for example to stay effectively in their own very separate suite with privacy. The Coleman family are the perfect hosts offering the most exclusive (no other kids just those staying at the house) and personalised kids club in their spectacular converted barn next door - our two (6 and 4) couldn't wait to go every morning to see Razia, Tim and any of their children Eva, George and Louis who were around. They loved going to see the animals, going for a ride on the sit on mower with Tim, cooking various dishes, learning a bit of French, art, games, dancing, acting and so on. Just great fun and allowed some time out for the grown ups to relax at the house, head ...Review dated 17/09/2016
We have a three year old and eighteen month old twins and this is the only family holiday we have been on so far with all three children that has actually felt like a holiday. Tim and Razia went over and above to accommodate us, make us feel welcome and looked after our children better than we could have ourselves (honestly!) They had everything we needed helped also by doing a big shop for us in time for our arrival. Beautiful property in an idyllic location if a little remote. Highly recommended.Review dated 11/09/2016
Simply the best holiday you can have with children...and it took us ages to find the perfect one!Review dated 06/09/2016
Tim, Razia and family are the most amazing hosts and the property is fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble. The children absolutely loved their morning sessions at the barn and still ask to make gratin dauphinois. Thank you!Review dated 06/09/2016
Quite simply the best family holiday we have ever had. The Coleman family are the perfect hosts attending to every detail expertly both in advance of and during our stay as well as managing to be always accessible yet never intrusive. The whole family are absolutely wonderful people who made us feel very welcome. Our kids loved the 'kids club' with Razia. The house is just fabulous: spacious, very well appointed and with endless high quality items to keep the kids entertained. The layout worked well for us as there are three bedrooms in the main part of the house with a separate en suite bedroom through the downstairs living area which acted almost as a self contained apartment for the grandparents. The grounds are wonderful with so many things for the kids to play with. Pool is first rate too and securely gated. Outlook is rolling countryside - the perfect place to relax. Also the local chefs providing top quality meals to the fridge w ...Review dated 07/09/2015
Artagnan is a fantastic place. Stunning house and garden, but the best thing about it is the family who own it - they are all so friendly, helpful and make it a truly special holiday.Review dated 05/07/2015
A joyous holiday had by all. To cap it off - singing frogs! What could be finer.
Thanks once again for all your help and kindness. We really did feel it was the "best holiday ever". You have a very special place.Review dated 17/06/2015
Another fabulous holiday at Artagnan - the children were so happy and loved their mornings with Razia in "kids club" which meant that we had much-needed time to relax together. The wonderful Coleman family couldn't have done any more to make our holiday relaxing and memorable. Just wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you all.Review dated 31/05/2015

Absolutely brilliant. The whole Coleman family, including their children and visiting cousins join in the kids club. My children thought it was the best play date ever. And the stocked wine cellar is amazing.Review dated 19/08/2014
We had a really FANTASTIC time at Artagne. Tim & Razia are excellent hosts and with their unique USP of adding in some childcare to the week it also allowed us to have some time to relax and also be on holiday! Our children (5,3, and 1) had a wonderful time in their garden playing on all the toys and swimming in the pool. A perfect holiday for small people and their parents. We are hoping to go back next year!Review dated 04/08/2014
Absolutely excellent from start to finish! We all had a fantastic week, especially our two little boys who adored Razia and Tim! Thank you so much.Review dated 21/07/2014

We had a fantastic week here with our 2 boys, aged 1 and 2, and my parents. The house is gorgeous - spacious, very comfortable and all the equipment is first class. The owners are incredible - so welcoming and helpful, but not at all intrusive. Our boys spent every morning having enormous fun with Razia and her children. They learned huge amounts from them and loved every minute. We had a super time too, and enjoyed having time being a couple again, as well as having hours of fun with the boys in the pool and fabulous garden. I couldn't recommend it more highly.Review dated 28/06/2014
This was our second time at Artagnan and we all absolutely loved it, as we knew we would. We were all made to feel so welcome and Razia, Tim and the children couldn't have been kinder or more thoughtful. The extra childcare that is now available (which our girls LOVED!) meant that my husband and I had a real break. Bliss. We will be back for a 3rd time as soon as we can!Review dated 20/06/2014
This place is just as good as you might hope from reading the other reviews, in fact it took us a while to believe that it wasn't too good to be true.Review dated 13/06/2014
Another perfect stay at Artagnan. This year was even better due to the introduction of the "Kids Club" hosted by Razia and the Coleman kids. It meant tired parents could take a break to enjoy the pool or tour the local area - great idea.Review dated 20/10/2013
An amazing place to stay.... A beautiful house, full of toys and everything we needed. The Coleman family are wonderful hosts. We cannot recommend it enough!Review dated 30/09/2013
The Coleman family are extremely generous hosts, who are all too happy to help with every last detail of your stay. The property is beautiful, with a tranquil garden, pool, and large play area framed - when the weather is right - by the Pyrenees in the distance. The kids club is a real highlight, both for the children and their parents! The pace of life in the area is slow and it would be difficult not to relax.Review dated 21/07/2013
Fabulous accommodation, amazing hospitality and the children love every minute of it - what else could we ask for? The brilliant Coleman family do their utmost to make the holiday as relaxing as possible and nothing is too much trouble. A wonderful break for all.Review dated 14/07/2013
Fabulous property with all the toys and equipment for children and adults that you could wish for. The attention to detail is excellent and the hospitality of Tim, Razia and their lovely children is outstanding.Review dated 02/10/2012
Our third summer holiday at Artagnan - there are no superlatives left for us to use to describe the perfect, relaxing holiday set up that can be found there. Team Coleman delivered their fabulous all round service once again ensuring both parents and children had the best time!Review dated 03/09/2012
This holiday was absolute bliss for all of us. With aged grandparents and tiny toddlers I was worried about how it all would 'fit' given the diverse range of needs and expectations. I needn't have worried. The layout, facilities, food delivery options and very warm hospitality from the Colemans at Artagnan made it a perfect holiday. For us the real cherry on the cake were the Coleman kids. George and Eva in particular were fun, kind and oh so patient to play with our son. He had the time of his life, chasing chickens, riding bikes and splashing about in the pool with them. He still remembers George and Eva, and I look forward to his reaction when we pull up at the gates of Artagnan again next year...Review dated 29/08/2012
Charming hosts and a beautiful rural location with masses of clean and perfectly functioning toys, bikes, pool inflatables etcReview dated 23/08/2012
A truly fabulous week at Artagnan. Tim, Razia and the whole family really went above and beyond the call of duty to make our holiday perfect. From the attentiveness before we came, shopping champagne and croissants ready when we arrived and looking after us so well whilst we were there. We have already got the diary out to book again next year. Thanks so much.Review dated 27/07/2012
I can't recommend this place enough. The family that own this property couldn't do enough for us. They recommended day trips (as well as provided us with maps as to how to get there), recommended and booked restaurants for us, found a fantastic babysitter for us, also booked activities such as a drawing lesson in the garden and a massage. The property was perfect for our family holiday. It was great to go somewhere (away from home) and not have to worry about it not being child friendly - there were child stair gates, good quality cots, safety catches on the kitchen cupboards, extra locks/gates that go through to the swimming pool area and pond. There were plenty of indoor toys (even for my Husband and I - we played at Pool and I looked through the cookery books and baked some bread with the great kitchen equipment) and outdoor toys such as a sandpit, balls and bikes for all ages. The only reason I didn't rate the location 5 was just b ...Review dated 25/07/2012

It is very clear that the owners have put a lot of thought into what a family with children will need when they are on holiday. Everything we wanted was there. An added bonus was that the owners' children played with our boys, which was very welcome. Artagnan is a fantastic place for a holiday with children. It has to be experienced to be believed!Review dated 01/07/2012

Just like to say a big thank you to one of the nicest families we’ve ever met. It was brilliant just to slow down for a week and enjoy the cluck of the hens, the smell of the herbs and the sound of the “nursemaid” frogs! Just loved it . Thank you so very much Review dated 20/12/2011
Thank you to all the Coleman family for another wonderful holiday. Once again you have been the perfect hosts and the children have loved playing with Louis, Eva and George. I am sure it won’t be long until we are all back again! Review dated 20/12/2011
Thank you all once again for a lovely holiday. It was great to come back and for all to be just as perfect as we remembered. Tim and Razia you looked after us so well. Can’t wait to come back in 2012 Review dated 20/12/2011
Another fantastic stay but a week just doesn’t seem long enough. Thank you so much for your hospitality and thanks to the kids for spending so much time entertaining our children. We really wouldn’t change anything. Wonderful! Review dated 20/12/2011
Thanks again for a superlative time. Libby and Charlotte long to stay forever. A wonderful welcoming place and we look forward to next year Review dated 20/12/2011
My 5th Stay and 3rd for Sarah. Keeps getting better. Sarah asked this morning what the birds were saying. I told her they were a little sad she was leaving and that they hope she comes back again next year. She said of course she will again and again even when she is an adult! Thanks for all the TLC and kindnessReview dated 20/12/2011
Another very special stay at Artagnan. There is nowhere else like this! Stunning Gers countryside, amazing choice of local activities, great local produce, a beautiful house but what makes it unique is the Coleman family and their wonderful childrenReview dated 20/12/2011
Our favourite holiday place in the world. So glad we came back and already planning our next visit. The house, setting and facilities are only bettered by the unbeatable Coleman hospitality.Review dated 22/08/2011

A thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable break. You couldn’t have been better hosts and with number 3 on the way we hope to come back with our 3 kids very soon. Thank you for making this a perfect holidayReview dated 22/08/2011
We liked it so much we have already booked for next year. The Coleman Family are the most fantastic hosts - nothing was missed on the detail front and the children were charming and engaging hosts for our kids. Overall rating: Outstanding!Review dated 11/08/2010
We went to Artagnan last year, which was simply the best self catering property we have found in France with Razia and Tim being absolutely fantastic hosts. Razia even organised a massage for this frazzled mum! - nothing was too much trouble, for example,- tractor rides on the sit on lawn mower - no problem! Not to mention the house, which was absolutely beautiful and brilliantly equipped. Another great recommendation - thanks!Review dated 02/08/2010
Best holiday I can recall having in a long long time! Overall Rating: Outstanding!!Review dated 16/07/2010
Perfect peaceful setting everything we had hoped for . Facilities were in every way just as the correspondence had stated. We could not fault the facilities and the friendliness and warmth of the Coleman family. Overall Rating: Outstanding!Review dated 16/07/2010
We have stayed in the Coleman's wonderful house on numerous occasions and I can honestly say that each visit has been even better than the previous.Review dated 03/11/2009
There is so much for the children to do and see; the facilities are superb, the setting is beautiful and it's great to have Tim and Razia on-site to give local advice.Review dated 03/11/2009
I would highly recommend this property and area for a great family holiday.Review dated 03/11/2009
We have enjoyed three family holidays here (so far), with and without children. Excellent facilities for an adult-only group but outstanding for children. Highly recommend it.Review dated 03/11/2009
Even a sick baby hasn't ruined our holiday. A beautiful house - with everything we could have dreamed of. Thanks for looking after us!Review dated 03/11/2009
just want to say a big thanks for looking after us. We had a great break - and we've been busy telling all our friends how wonderful it wasReview dated 03/11/2009
We had a wonderful week here. The Coleman's have created a fantastic villa with all the right touches to make for a luxury adult holiday - from huge fluffy towels, to candles, a coffee machine, a fridge full of cheese and a brilliant DVD collection. They've also thought of absolutely everything you could want for a baby or kids - from a baby monitor, to pool toys and a booster seat to take out to restaurants. Everything is in fantastic condition. The house is great in summer (with the pool) and would be equally lovely in winter (with the open fire). You won't want to leave the place - but if you fancy a day out the area is great for exploring. I can't recommend it highly enough.Review dated 03/11/2009
We have just returned from a week at Artagnan. Believe the hype... the house, grounds and owners are all absolutely wonderful. Every little thing we thought of was already organised for our enjoyment. The kids loved the pool and all the toys, we loved the ice cream maker and cooking in the brilliantly equipped kitchen. We can genuinely not recommend this place enough. Massive thanks to Tim and Razia and their lovely children for their hospitality and friendliness. Review dated 03/11/2009
Just returned from a glorious week at Artagnan with our new babies, we can honestly say the place exceeded our dreams. With the brand new designer kitchen equipment and herb garden we indulged our passion for cooking. There was so much to keep the babies and ourselves occupied. The final touches such as White Company linen and towels only showed just how much Tim and Razia care about making this a special place to visit. Many thanks to them and their gorgeous children for making our stay so memorable.Review dated 03/11/2009
have just returned from two fantastic weeks at Artagnan. Our holiday was the best we have had as a family thanks to the generosity, professionalism and thoughtfulness of Tim, Razia and their children. We can not think of any way in which our holiday could have been improved and believe that the Colemans give many five-star hotels a run for their money in terms of providing a personal, professional, friendly yet discreet service. We were all very sad to leave and will definitely be returning. Review dated 03/11/2009
The house is huge, old and modern at the same time and has everything you could think of for babies/young kids. The views are beautiful, the local villages are all very picturesque and Tim, Razia and family who live in the converted barn next door are extremely welcoming and helpful. We highly recommend a stay here.Review dated 03/11/2009
I stayed at Artagnan, Midi-Pyrenees, SW France:We had a wonderful week at Artagnan. The house, pool and views are beautiful. Razia and Tim and their lovely family are great hosts. The house was equipped with everything you can possibly think of to entertain our children. The heated pool was especially well used. We look forward to visiting Artagnan again! I would highly recommend it!Review dated 03/11/2009
Tim, Razia and their children were very welcoming and made sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The house and gardens are gorgeous and provided everthing to keep our 2 amused, busy and happy for the stay. We particulary loved the pool with its range of floats and toys, badminton, swingball, the chickens, the range of toys, (in particular the petshop toy, prams, dolls and action man!) the big collection of books, the markets in nearby towns, great food in the restaurants to top it all, we had a week of glorious sunshine...and after a summer of rain at home it made a welcome change. This is a great place for a family holiday!Review dated 03/11/2009
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Artagnan. Tim and Razia could not have done more to make us feel welcome and make our stay as relaxing as possible, from laying in supplies for us prior to arrival to babysitting for us one night during our stay. Loathe as we are to rave too much about the experience lest we never manage to secure another booking, we really could not recommend Artagnan highly enough!Review dated 03/11/2009
A wonderful holiday, within beautiful surroundings. We were made to feel like friends of the family rather than clients and will be returning again soon. A must for families.Review dated 03/11/2009
Fab stay. Tim, Razia and their children were extremely friendly and helpful, and made us all very welcome. Highly recommended. Unique!Review dated 03/11/2009
Tim, Razia, Louis, Eva and George make this a splendid holiday week with their generosity, aforethought and great taste. We look forward to another holiday in this heavenly homeReview dated 03/11/2009
An enormous thank you to Tim and Razia for their kind hospitality, help and advice before and during our stay. It was a very memorable stay which we all enjoyed tremendously and we really really appreciated all of their assistance that definitely went that extra mile and far surpassed our expectations.Review dated 03/11/2009
What a fantastic holiday! The best and from far most relaxing one since the birth of our son. The house and suroundings are very well equiped and very safe. It is also extreemly clean, convenient and of very good quality (I already miss the White Company towels). Our son was thrilled by all the toys around and loved playing with Georges, Eva and Louis. The heated swimming pool is also fantastic and very much appreciated having a 10 month old daughter. Razia, Tim, Louis, Eva and Georges made us feel like friends of the family. They spared no efforts to make our stay enjoyable (the welcome pack alone is something to remember). Razia kindly babysat our children twice while we were there and we felt extreemly confident about it as she definitely has a special sense with children. We cannot recommend the place highly enough. Thank you again to the Coleman's family for its kindness and generosity. We hope to be able to visit you again soon. Review dated 03/11/2009
Just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had staying in this wonderful house. It exceeded all our expectations and everything has been catered for down to the finest details. If Carlsberg did holiday homes, this would be it! The making of the week was the welcome of the entire Coleman family allowing the grown ups to have more relaxing than we could ever have imagined. Many thanks to Tim, Razia, Louis, Eva and George and we hope to see you again soon.Review dated 03/11/2009
We have just returned from Artagnan having had what can only be described as the perfect family holiday.
The setting is idyllic. The standard of the property is superb and enhanced by Tim & Razia's eye for quality and detail, which is applied to everything in the house, including the toys (we suspect their children have a hand with these!). We have 3 children and finding the right setting can be a challenge. Artagnan exceeds that challenge by far. The house is full of everything you would ever need to cater for young children - from sterilisers, highchairs, toys and bikes. Everything. However, what set this trip apart was the hospitality of the Coleman family. Prior to our arrival, they were a source of great advice and whilst we were there they went to great lengths to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Arrival shopping, babysitting, culinary advice all included! And their 3 wondrful children were equally as welcoming and hel ...Review dated 05/09/2009
