Marine Villa is an exquisitely renovated Grade II listed 2/3-bedroom house overlooking the tiny but historic Georgian harbour village of Charlestown, which was recently granted World Heritage status and is often home to tall ships - Pirates ahoy! In fact, its not unheard of to encounter movie crews capitalising on the harbour's picturesque good looks for the latest high seas blockbuster.
From its prime harbour-side position Marine Villa enjoys lovely views through its large picture windows and is within a toddler-friendly stroll of the nearest beach (great for rock pooling), coffee shop, bistro and deli.
Inside, the talents of owners Antonia and David, both designers, is plain to see with simple but elegant furnishings, some handmade by David. This, alongside the scenic location, a fabulously comprehensive list of baby gear, professional babysitting and food service (both available on request) make Marine Villa an idyllic and wonderfully relaxing retreat for young families.
Accommodation Overview:
Marine Villa is the original wing of a grand Georgian Grade II Listed seaside villa and sits on the Quay overlooking the historic harbour village of Charlestown. It has a pair of double bedrooms each with a super king bed, luxurious en-suite bathroom and magnificent sea views. The master bedroom also has a small interconnecting study that can be made up as a children's room so that Marine Villa can sleep up to 6 on request (max 4 adults + 2 kids). The current price is based on 2 adults only. Additional guests can be selected from options and extras when booking *.
The kitchen is well equipped with a range of modern appliances including a washing machine/tumble dryer, gas hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. It should have everything required for whipping up family feasts although the optional meal services available are great for those looking to take a break from it all.
The dining room has a huge solid oak table, perfect for late lazy breakfasts or an even later candle lit supper. If the tall ships are in, guests might even spot someone swinging from the Crows Nest!
In the sitting room there are two comfortable sofas, a working fire place (perfect for cosy evenings in), TV with built in DVD player and digital radio. The house is sheltered from the bustle of the harbour by its large sculptural hedges.
Outside the house has a courtyard garden with table, chairs and parasol - perfect for eating al-fresco and for a little ones to play safely. There's also an outdoor shower which is handy for cleaning up after a day on the beach.
If you would like to bring friends, parents or parents in law, but want to give them (and you ! ) a bit of space, The Studio (sleeps 2) and The Cabin (sleeps 2) are available for short stays all year round and is located on the same spacious grounds (although they all have their own privacy).
Important Please Note: Rates are based on 2 adults only. Infants and children are charged £20pppn, teens £40 pppn and further adults £80pppn. These extra charges must be selected when making a reservation request or they shall be added on once your booking is confirmed.
The picturesque port of Charlestown has retained a great deal of its Georgian beauty, so much so that it is often used as a film set. Although its the size of a small harbour village, it boasts a good pub and a funky coffee shop, both of which welcome little ones. Surprisingly, there's also a great salon for indulgent treatments, perhaps by bartering with an afternoon of golf on a the nearby course?
A major benefit of being almost harbour-side is the access to delicious freshly caught fish. The fisherman, generally stops by the cottage to collect orders, and comes highly recommended. A little further afield but well worth the trip to Truro is the aptly named ‘Cheese Shop’ - heaven for cheese fans! The two beaches within easy and stroller-friendly walk of the cottage are ideal for introducing toddlers to the delights of rock pooling and net fishing, whilst the Eden Project is practically on the doorstep and, if using the land train (tractor pulled train through the attractions), also very toddler friendly. The shop sells a great spotting book to keep kids interested and the café does decent nibbles.
For an 'Enchanted Forest' experience, head to Cardinham Woods and stumble upon the wonderful tea shop set in a centuries old woodsman's cottage, with a handy children's play area outside and useful baby-changing room. But, with the tall 'pirate ships' and rockpooling adventures on the doorstep, many don't make it too far from the house.

A really lovely property in a great location for all of the attractions of Cornwall. Situated in a pretty harbour that has arts shops, places to be entertained, eateries, and a great ice cream shop. The property was wonderfully decorated giving it a warm, luxury, and homely feel. It is also very well equipped with all of the things you need for a young family holiday from a baby monitor to Lego knives and forks! Our two little ones ( 2years, and 5 months) had a great time and slept well too!
We will return!Review dated 23/03/2013
Marine Villa was the perfect place for our family holiday: it had all the equipment that our two-year-old and three-month-old could possibly need; a fantastic location with rockpooling beach, superb cafe and good pubs all within toddling distance (the pub was for us, not the toddler!); and beautiful decor, fluffy towels and incredibly comfortable beds to soothe exhausted parents. Antonia was a brilliant host, on hand to answer questions or solve problems - not that we had any. She also put us in touch with the wonderful Rebecca who babysat for us on a few evenings so we could go out for supper, which all added to the holiday experience. We can't sing Marine Villa's praises too highly - we loved it, and will definitely be back.Review dated 28/03/2011
