With 15 successful letting seasons to her credit, the owner and manager of 'Dordogne Farmhouse', Tracey, has got the inside and out spot on as a fantastic holiday home for extended family and friends (and the dog!), in the Francophiles favourite location of the Dordogne.
The Farmhouse stands in 3 acres of grounds, of which the 2-acre lower garden is securely fenced so children can free range and have all kinds of fun while grown-ups revel in some precious time to relax.
A supersize trampoline, sand pit, climbing frame with a slide, Wendy House and football goals will have all ages charging around with glee and there’s plenty of space for ball games on the grass, hide and seek in the orchard or a sneaky snooze in a hammock.
At the side of the house is the secure private pool area, bordered on 3 sides by dense, mature hedges and only accessible through lockable gates and lockable doors. The saltwater pool is a good sized 11x5 metres and heated to a minimum of 24 degrees from Easter to November, with loungers and parasols to soak up the sun and mood lighting for a moonlight swim. A retractable cover can be pulled over in 10 seconds to maintain the temperature and is lockable for complete peace of mind.
The house itself is a big French farmhouse, with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and tiled floors giving the place authentic, rustic character. It’s furnished for comfort and geared up for good times, including a championship pool table, kids snooker table, table football, large box of Lego, board games, a 50” plasma screen satellite TV, free WiFi, DVD player and a library of movies. There’s comfy sofas for cosy evenings by the woodburner, a long farmhouse dining table for convivial family feasts, (with booster seats and high chairs provided), and outdoor dining terraces for breakfasts in the sun and BBQ’s by night. The kitchen is really well equipped for self catering from top notch appliances to Le Creuset Cookware and Tracey also has an exhaustive list of baby and toddler gear for feeding time to bathtime to bedtime. To give grownups time off and time out, babysitting is always available with Tracey’s trusted caretaker of 15 years.
'Dordogne Farmhouse' has 6 bedrooms which have been thoughtfully designed and furnished to delight every guest, whatever the make-up of the group. One has a romantic four poster and another a French sleigh bed; two are on the ground floor with French doors to the pool; one is a suite, with double and twin rooms while another adjoins a children’s room with a single bed and cot. Four of the double rooms can also be set up as triples with a single sofa bed for even more flexibility. Guests have two shower rooms and two bath/shower rooms to go at, all finished to luxurious standards and including a walk in rain shower and freestanding baths.
Accommodation overview
The Farmhouse comfortably accommodates up 10 adults and 6 children, including up to 4 babies in cots, with 1 wooden cot and 3 travel cots provided. The main living area is open to the first floor, with an impressive raftered ceiling, 7x4ft pool table, 3 comfy sofas around a wood-burning stove and another by the 50” HD TV with satellite channels, surround sound and a DVD player. The farmhouse kitchen is really well equipped with cooking utensils, kitchen gadgets and modern appliances including Range Master stove with electric double oven and five ring gas hob, microwave, Bosch dishwasher and washing machine, 2 large fridge/freezers and ice making machine, Royal Doulton crockery, Le Creuset oven ware, cafeterias, coffee machine, Scan pan cooking ware and a full range of glassware. Green Bedroom has a French sleigh bed, a chest of drawers, en-suite shower room and giant outdoor chess on the terrace. On the first floor, Rose Suite comprises a master bedroom with an oak framed bed and an adjoining child’s room with a cot and single bed, which leads through to a bathroom with a large organic bath and a shower. Yellow Suite comprises a master bedroom with a wrought iron bedstead, a separate twin room with flat screen TV for DVD’s and a bathroom with a bath and a shower. All Master bedrooms have super king beds, luxury Bedeck bedding, African nets, feather and synthetic pillows, wardrobe, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryers, radiators, wardrobe, bedside lockers and reading lights. All four bathrooms have electric towel radiators, large showers, shaving lights and sockets, and all guests, including children, are provided with towels and a pool towel.
The Farhouse is found in the much loved Western Dordogne corner of South West France, just 20 minutes from the medieval town of Bergerac. It stands on the side of a gentle hill with south facing views over woods and vineyards, on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Thenac, which has its own working wine Chateau to try before you buy. The nearest large village, which has a bakery, supermarket, chemist and other shops, a good bar/brasserie and restaurant/take-aways, is Sigoules (6km).
Morning markets take place every day in the various local villages and the Sunday market in medieval Issigeac is especially recommended by Tracey, followed by lunch at La Petite Treille or Chez Alain (30 mins drive). There are many good restaurants to try nearby, including the pizzas at Italian des Arcades in Eymet and relaxed Sunday lunch, including regional duck specialities, at Famille Moutier in Monestier – both of which are good for big family groups.
Bergerac is an interesting medieval town to explore and sample the Perigord delicacies in countless bistros and restaurants, all washed down with the famous local wines. When it comes to fine fines, connoisseurs are really spoilt for choice, with so many famous Bordeaux chateau to choose from for a vineyard tour and tasting, including St Emillion and Montbazillac.
The landscape is described as a cross between the Cotswolds and Tuscany, with rolling hills and fields lined with cypress trees, ancient woodlands, and swathes of sunflowers in the summer and famous Bordeaux vineyards stretching for miles. Packing a picnic to explore the surrounding countryside on foot or bike is a simple pleasure and all shapes and sizes of bikes are provided at the house, including children’s bikes with stabilisers, trailer bikes and bike seats.
Within an hour’s drive there are lots of other fun things for families to see and do. Junior Land and Aqua Park, on the outskirts of Bergerac, has four big swimming pools with water slides and direct access to the river to have a go at canoeing. There’s also ten-pin bowling and crazy golf nearby. Wallabi Aquitaine, near Agen is an amusement park and chateau, with a pirate boat, roller coasters and children’s’ rides, log flume and water rapid ride. Parc en Ciel has woodland trails, mini golf, a play area and snail museum but also aerial rope walkways slung between the trees for little monkeys over 1.2m tall. For golf fanatics, the house is just 5 minutes’ drive from the prestigious Chateau des Vigiers Valley Course and non golfers can enjoy a tasty croquet frites of afternoon tea in Le Chai Brasserie, overlooking the course.
Nearest medical services: GP in Sigoules (7 mins); A&E in Bergerac (25 mins).
Getting here: Bergerac is the nearest airport, (25 mins) which has flights from regional airports across the UK. Bordeaux airport is 90 minutes drive.

Hi, I'm Tracey and am married to Adi and live in Salisbury, Wiltshire with Holly, our elderly Golden Retriever.
We decided to create a wonderful holiday home for families with young children, after enjoying many family holidays ourselves in the Dordogne, when our children were young.
We have made many alterations to the villa over the years to ensure it is perfect for families on holiday and are continually investing and upgrading the facilities.
We have a policy of purchasing (within reason!) whatever our guests require to make their holiday special.
As owners, guests can rest assured that we are continually striving to maintain the high standards and have regular work visits to both properties out of season.
We love creating a holiday home that our guests can return to year after year as contented guests are our main motivation. Holidays are so important and it is really important that they are stress free for every member of the family. This is why I offer a complimentary concierge service from the moment you decide to book until you return home after your holiday. I can help with travel arrangements, recommend restaurants, organise wine tasting, arrange babysitting with our trusted caretakers who are mums themselves.
Kids adore playing in the lovely, warm, heated pool which they can enjoy whatever the weather as they can still swim under the retractable cover. They also adore the trampoline, Wendy House and sandpit and the play area. Hundreds of DVD's and satellite TV also has them smiling as well as all the traditional outdoor garden games they can enjoy with their families.
With ages ranging from toddler to teenager, there is something for everyone here. Looking at the guest book and reviews, the main praise from kids has been for the large, warm pool but they have also really enjoyed the large safe, enclosed garden where they can play for hours, the local markets with their "steak and frites" and the croissants form the local boulangerie. They also enjoy the local chateau which are set up for children and families where they can explore and act out play games. Happy kids mean happy parents!!

Acabanes was the absolute perfect holiday destination for our family. We were traveling with a large group of extended family and Acabanes offers lots of different spaces both inside and out so you never feel on top of each other. The option to pick out which baby equipment you need in advance meant that everything was there that you needed but the place wasn't overflowing with equipment you didn't need. Our kids loved the heated pool and we felt safe knowing they couldn't access it while playing in the main garden area. The dining area in the main kitchen and on the covered patio were perfect for all our meals and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. We had an amazing trip and we will definitely book in to Acabanes again! Tracey was so lovely to deal with and was always on hand to help. An absolute 5 star experience!!Review dated 10/01/2018
Fantastic facilities. All equipment in kitchen you could possibly want. Bikes top quality. Amazing! Really recommend it.Review dated 23/08/2017
We stayed at Acabanes at the beginning of June and it was incredible. The house and grounds were immaculate. The land around the house is perfect for children, with our young son free to safely run around in the extensive garden area. This was helped by the fact that the pool area is slightly separated from the garden. The pool itself is a great size, and was usable even on cooler days thanks to it being heated.
The rooms themselves were all a really good size. Our group consisted of one couple with a 2 year old, who had their pick of two areas with a separate kids room and family style bathroom, and 2 grown up adults who could both have their own en suite rooms on a different floor of the house each with its own terraced area.
We've stayed in a number of self catering holiday lets, and have never experienced one more well appointed. Everything we needed was provided. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery and cooking equi ...Review dated 17/07/2017
