BFB's Overview

Reflecting the area in which it is set, this stylish villa is a wonderful combination of stunning scenery and sophistication. Just a short distance from the belle époque beauty and vibrancy of Cannes, Nice and Monaco, the aptly named ‘Wide Open Space’ is a haven of peace and tranquility. It benefits from a unique architectural design that allows each room to boast beautiful south-facing views of the Provencal scenery through floor to ceiling windows and doors (all with adjustable shutters that can be set to provide shade from direct sunlight) and offering direct access to the garden and large heated and gated outdoor pool.

The living space is large, airy and open plan with widescreen satellite TV, DVD, CD player, broadband internet, and telephone in the lounge, plus a dining table and chairs, breakfast bar, oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher in the kitchen.

The master bedroom is a spacious room with large en-suite (sink, toilet, bath, separate shower), whilst the second and third bedrooms are both bright and spacious, and set up as one double and one twin. The fourth bedroom is accessed through a separate door in the master suite and is set up with two single beds and a cot (which can be moved easily to another room). The main bathroom is large with a 'wet room' walk-in shower and a separate WC. Outside, the gardens are completely private with beautiful uninterrupted panoramic views. There is a large heated and gated swimming pool and poolhouse, equipped with a seating area. Additionally, in the contemporary landscaped garden there are tables, chairs, loungers and a BBQ.

Location Information

Although it enjoys uninterrupted views, the villa is conveniently located on the edge of the picturesque and historic town of Montauroux, which was founded over 1,000 years ago by the Grimaldi family who still reign today in Monaco under Prince Albert. It’s also the birthplace and final resting place of Christian Dior. Closer still is the Terra )Blanche Resort (formerly Four Seasons Provence) with its spa, kids club (access on request) and championship European tour golf course. The Michelin star-winning restaurant is quite an attraction too.

The villa is just 45 minutes drive from Nice airport, inland from the coast, mid-way between Grasse and Cannes (30 minutes distance each). Yet, despite the lure of the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera or the charming medieval towns and villages, most guests find it hard to tear themselves away from the beautifully designed pool and gardens, at most managing to head into the village for some fresh raisin bread, or go down to the 5 star Terra Blanche Resort (formerly Four Seasons Provence) for a Spa treatment, the wonderful Kids Club, or for a round of golf on the highly acclaimed Dave Thomas designed championship course.

The village of Montauroux and its neighbour, Callian are extremely picturesque, hilltop villages with numerous amenities including café bars and restaurants. A very large Leclerc supermarket lies less than 10 minutes from the villa and there's a superb local Farmer’s market everyTuesday in Montauroux.

For golf fans, there are over 30 courses within a couple of hours drive from the villa. Alternatively, take flight Nearby Fayence is a European centre for gliding and you can experience the beauty of Provence from the air with a half hour 'sightseeing' tour. For those who prefer to take in the sights on four legs, the local horse riding centre is only 10 minutes away and is available for lessons and trekking. For water-borne adventure, kids will love the pedalos at Lac de Saint-Cassien just 10 minutes away, but there are also plenty of sea water sports centres at Saint-Raphaël or Fréjus plus kayaking on the pristine lakes of the Gorges du Verdon, or the beaches of the Côte d'Azur. Or try relaxation at the Terra Blanche Resort (formerly Four Seasons Provence) and the Domaine de Fayence which have excellent spa facilities open to non residents.

For kid-focussed days out, Marineland in Antibes and the Zoo in Fréjus are always popular. Plus beach days and making perfume at nearby Grasse. The 'perfume capital of the world' and lies 30 minutes from the house and is a spectacular old village with winding streets, stunning views, excellent restaurants and cafés. There are endless opportunities to sample and purchase perfume, as well as visits to the manufacturers to see the rose petals being transformed into scent.

Other towns worth a visit are Gorges du Verdon and Lac de Sainte-Croix for breathtaking scenery. For typical Riveria-chic and glamour, Antibes and Juan-les-Pins are the preferred hang-outs for many celebrities thanks to their amazing night-life with many clubs, bars and restaurants. Not forgetting Saint-Tropez is perhaps the most famous beach resort in the world after Brigitte Bardot arrived in 1956 to make the film ‘ t Dieu Créa la Femme'. Since then, it has become synonymous with its celebrity lifestyle and Mediterranean chic. Although it remains essentially a little fishing village on the Southern shores of the Golfe de Saint-Tropez. The 'Vieux Port', with the old town rising above the Eastern quay is where you'll get the classic Saint-Tropez experience. Choose from the many sidewalk cafés to just sit and watch people go by or venture into the village and explore the huge choice of shops, cafés, restaurants, picturesque squares, winding streets and beautiful architecture to admire.

For beach days, there's a wide selection to choose from. Cannes, Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël all have extensive beaches as well as plenty of shops, markets and restaurants. Fréjus has a Roman amphitheatre and hosts many summer concerts. Just outside Saint-Tropez is Port-Grimaud, a charming Provençal town built in the 1960's and based on the layout of Venice with brightly coloured houses set on private lagoons and waterways. It is a truly spectacular sight and perfect for a gentle stroll to admire the architecture, boats, cafés and brasserie restaurants. Boat trips leave from here for tours around the bay. Facing Saint-Tropez across the gulf is Sainte-Maxime, a pretty and traditional Riviera town with long, palm tree-lined promenade, delightful stretches of Mediterranean beaches and plenty of watersports. There are few better ways to spend an evening than to choose one of the restaurants or bars on the waterside and just watch the boats and the lights out on the bay.

Who owns this place?

Stephen and San Mills bought Wide Open Space back in 2004.

What do they love about it?

When we discovered Wide Open Space we knew we’d found something special.

To find such a calming contemporary property in such a stunning location was too good an opportunity for us to let it pass by.

Over the last 10 years we’ve had wonderful feedback from family, friends and guests who have stayed at the villa, and such positive comments encourage us to add even more features to make the property even more welcoming and comfortable.

What do the kids love about it?

1. The pool, the pool, the pool – kids love the heated pool!

Even in warm climates pools can be really chilly, but with fortunately for Wide Open Space guests, the pool is both heated and gated for safety.

2. Pedalos on Lac de St-Cassien

Lac St Cassien is only 10 minutes away and the pedalos are huge fun for everyone!

3. The Kids Club is Fabulous - Terre Blanche Resort – Kids Club

The Kids Club at Terre Blanche promises an endless array of possibilities for 2–12 year-olds.

Everything has been carefully thought-out, developed and created to the same exacting standards and high quality that exists for the grown-ups.

There’s a whole world of water-based activities waiting for them in the large swimming pool, reserved exclusively for them, while mum and dad watch on from the comfort of their loungers.

Fun-filled playrooms are filled with toys and games to stimulate their inventiveness and imagination, workshops explore the local arts of Provence – they can even learn the typically Provençal game of pétanque (or ‘boules’).

There are outdoor activities waiting to be discovered in the wonderful, natural spaces around our resort. Themed outings – based on bee-keeping, botany or the animal park – give kids a chance to discover the beauty of the natural world and an insight into how fragile it can be.

A video games room and a lounge complete with home cinema round off this Club.

Children are supervised by a qualified, dedicated and friendly team of staff.

Our kids use the club, and many of our guests use the club – the kids are always excited to go back again and again.

Non residents can buy access to Terre Blanche Kids Club – 2015 prices were €50 full day, €25 half day per child – please visit the Terre Blanche Resort website or contact the hotel directly for more information.

  • We had such a wonderful time staying at 'a wide open space'. We went for a week with our children (4 & 2). There was plenty of space for them to run around, loads of toys and they loved the pool. The house is very well equipped for younger children and close to some fabulous beaches.Review dated 06/09/2016

  • We loved staying at wide open space. The villa is elegantly decorated and has a very well protected pool, which is perfect for little people. We have two very active and inquisitive young boys and it is genuinely toddler proof! I would recommend the villa to anyone with children. There are lots of toys and books at the villa, which really helps if you travel by plane. In addition there are a number of good restaurants in the area (La Carre d'Ange was particularly worth a visit) and it is not far from the coast.Review dated 19/07/2016

  • We had such a relaxing time at Wide Open Space and the pool was fantastic and so warm. The nearby lake, village and surrounding countryside are beautiful to explore and we really felt like we had been away for much longer than a week! Thank youReview dated 13/06/2016

  • The owners have done a thorough job with toddler proofing potentially dangerous areas. However, no internal doors have locks e.g. bathroom so there is no way of keeping an inquisitive (naughty?) toddler out of where they are not supposed to be.Review dated 14/09/2015

  • My family had a wonderful stay at the villa. It is in a beautiful location with amazing views and close to lots of stunning French hill villages. The villa is very private and really feels like a home from home with everything you could need. The pool was very popular with the children, and has the added bonus of being very safe so we didn't have to worry about our toddler.Review dated 15/10/2014

  • "We had a wonderful holiday at the villa, its fantastic for people with kids that allows you to relax in a way that can be difficult when travelling with young kids!! The owners have really thought about everything you could need to take the stress out of your holiday: high-chairs, toys, pool, the kids table and chair, kitchen utensils, cots, privacy, safe environment, garden to a high standard, etc. On top of that the villa is very close to shops and restaurants and is very close to Nice airport. We'd absolutely recommend the villa to families going to the South of France, in fact we're planning our next visit!!"Review dated 15/10/2014

  • We had a wonderful fortnight at the villa with our 3 young children. It was the perfect spot to unwind for us all. Most days were spent relaxing by the pool, although we enjoyed exploring the local area, especially the stunning lake just a few minutes drive away. We spent a day at the pool and spa at the Terre Blanche resort which was a real treat (and the children loved the kids club) and used the recommended babysitter one evening but the excellent selection of toys and DVDs and the well-equipped kitchen meant that you really didn't need to leave the villa at all!Review dated 15/10/2014

  • We thoroughly enjoyed the stay at the villa and the pool area in particular was a great hit with the kids. The villa is very well suited to young children, and the layout with two living sections on either side of the large living area /kitchen is very convenient. We also appreciated the privacy of the villa and its garden, with no obstruction or view from neighbouring properties. We would definitely recommend the villa to others, especially families with small children.Review dated 15/10/2014

  • The Wide Open Space villa is a perfect spot for a relaxing get-away. The house itself is a beautiful, contemporary space and it has so much natural day-light that we really missed when we came home. The pool is a lovely addition that we used every day. We had our 5 month old son with us and the villa really suited our needs. The beautiful scenery, fabulous accommodation and easy access to lots to see and do made this a truly memorable holiday.Review dated 03/11/2009

  • Wide Open Space provided us with one of the most memorable holidays we've had in recent years. We went away with friends, their baby and our toddler, and yet there was always an abundance of space for the kids (and adults) to occupy themselves in. The pool area was both pretty and peaceful, while also being safe for children, and the al fresco dining area was a firm favourite of the adults after the children had gone to bed. The villa manages to be on the door step of local amenities and the delightful Montauroux, while retaining complete seclusion from any neighbours or limited passing traffic. The location is perfect - only 45mins to Nice airport - and the stylish and minimalist layout of each room gave it a family boutique feel. Wide Open Space comes highly recommended.
