For parents who’re still getting used to a new bundle of joy, The Cabin is just the place to discover the precious pleasures of becoming a family. A little bit quirky and very cool, owners Antonia and David have weaved their holiday cottage magic to transform a pair of Grade II listed buildings into a bijou bolthole for two and a baby.

From White Company Egyptian cotton linen to a groovy retractable sail that sweeps over an enclosed courtyard, The Cabin has been beautifully designed, both inside and out, to help guests unwind. Whether chilling out to music on the squishy sofa, sinking into the sumptuous king size bed or chilling out over a leisurely al fresco lunch, parents are certain to feel the stress levels begin to drop. Even packing up to come to The Cabin is stress free because so much essential baby kit is provided, including steam steriliser, food whizzer, travel cot, high chair, baby monitor, buggy and much more (see grey box for full details).

In keeping with the secret hideaway concept, The Cabin is tucked away in the flower gardens of a grand, Grade II listed Georgian house, overlooking the historic harbour town of Charlestown, recently granted World Heritage status. Although The Cabin offers private tranquillity, the cottage is also toddling distance to the beaches, tall ships and fat crab sarnies to be enjoyed around the quays – the essence of Cornwall right on the doorstep.

Accommodation overview

The Cabin has a King Size bedroom with charming low ceilings where a cot fits perfectly. The adjoining wet room has a powerful shower, basin and a loo with a view! The open plan sitting room/kitchen is designed for comfort, complete with squishy sofa, gas wood burner, digital television with built in DVD, an ipod dock and WiFi. The kitchen is fully equipped with a ceramic hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, cooking utensils and crockery, plus a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board in the wash house at the rear. The Cabin has a private garden and an enclosed courtyard for al fresco dining whatever the weather, thanks to a sail providing shade or shelter at the push of a button or crank of the handle.

Share Tips & Advice The picturesque port of Charlestown has retained a great deal of its Georgian beauty, so much so that it is often used as a film set. Although its the size of a small harbour village, it boasts a couple of good pubs, a bistro, a good new restaurant and a funky coffee shop, all of which welcome little ones. Surprisingly, the village also boasts a great Clarins salon for indulgent treatments, perhaps by bartering with an afternoon of golf a the nearby course? A major benefit of being almost harbour-side is the access to delicious freshly caught fish. Tony the fisherman, generally stops by the cottage to collect orders, and comes highly recommended. A little further afield but well worth the trip to Turo is the aptly named ‘Cheese Shop’ - heaven for cheese fans! The two beaches within easy and stroller-friendly walk of the cottage are ideal for introducing toddlers to the delights of rockpooling and net fishing, whilst the Eden Project is practically on the doorstep and, if using the land train (tractor pulled train through the attractions), also very toddler friendly. The shop sells a great spotting book to keep kids interested and the café does decent nibbles. For an 'Enchanted Forest' experience, head to Cardinham Woods and stumble upon the wonderful tea shop set in a centuries old woodsman's cottage, with a handy children's play area outside and useful baby-changing room. But, with the tall 'pirate ships' and rockpooling adventures on the doorstep, many don't make it too far from the cottage.

We had a fantastic time at the Cabin with my 7 month year old and husband. The Cabin is enchanting, hidden away at the top of a walled garden. The owners couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. It is fantastically kitted out and very well organised with everything we could need or want for our baby so we could leave London without all the baby paraphernalia ! We would definitely recommend it and go again.

The design and attention to detail of The Cabin is just fantastic, and the location couldn't be better. We took our 14 month old daughter and she was free to run around in the secure garden.
