‘The Apple Store’ is an exquisite retreat for a couple and a baby. A true ‘bolthole’ being a small but perfectly formed wing of a large, Grade II listed, Georgian house overlooking the historic Georgian port of Charlestown (recently granted World Heritiage status).
Even from the exterior with pretty cobbles and collection of multicoloured buoys, it is clear that it has been lovingly renovated by owners with an eye design. Inside the design talents of owners Antonia and David, is plain to see. The interior is a study in understated, family-friendly, elegance. The white-washed walls and floors allow the natural beauty and craftsmanship of the slate and oak furnishings to shine, whilst giving it a warm yet contemporary feel. This is best illustrated in the bedroom, a large bright room overlooking the lovely orchard gardens with a huge solid oak bed, complete with the kind of high quality Egyptian cotton linen that makes it almost impossible to get up every morning - although the powerful shower with organic Spiezia toiletries softens the blow considerably, once under it!
Summary
The Apple Store sleeps two (plus a cot) in one large double bedroom
with a huge super king-sized ,solid-oak bed overlooking the gardens and
out towards the sea. The adjoining bathroom has a large and fabulously
powerful shower. Downstairs, the kitchen has its original slate floor,
stylish free-standing units and is well equipped with microwave,
ceramic hob, oven, fridge-freezer and washer-dryer. There's a pretty
wooden dining table and chairs and a lounge with comfy chairs, an
elegant writing desk and a TV with Freeview, DVD player and VHS.
Outside, the cottage has use of the pretty orchard garden, with table
and chairs provided for eating al-fresco.
Show Location Map The picturesque port of Charlestown has retained a great deal of its Georgian beauty, so much so that it is often used as a film set. Although its the size of a small harbour village, it boasts a couple of good pubs, a bistro, a good new restaurant and a funky coffee shop, all of which welcome little ones. Surprisingly, the village also boasts a great Clarins salon for indulgent treatments, perhaps by bartering with an afternoon of golf a the nearby course? A major benefit of being almost harbour-side is the access to delicious freshly caught fish. Tony the fisherman, generally stops by the cottage to collect orders, and comes highly recommended. A little further afield but well worth the trip to Turo is the aptly named ‘Cheese Shop’ - heaven for cheese fans! The two beaches within easy and stroller-friendly walk of the cottage are ideal for introducing toddlers to the delights of rockpooling and net fishing, whilst the Eden Project is practically on the doorstep and, if using the land train (tractor pulled train through the attractions), also very toddler friendly. The shop sells a great spotting book to keep kids interested and the café does decent nibbles. For an 'Enchanted Forest' experience, head to Cardinham Woods and stumble upon the wonderful tea shop set in a centuries old woodsman's cottage, with a handy children's play area outside and useful baby-changing room. But, with the tall 'pirate ships' and rockpooling adventures on the doorstep, many don't make it too far from the cottage.

It was beautiful, but very small.... Rated 4 out of 5. Owner Responds: Just to clarify, the Bedroom is 14ft x 13ft, Shower room & dressing room approx 4ft x 16ft, the Sitting Room is 18'5ft x 8ft & the Kitchen is 18'3ft by 10'7ft. Most guests find it spacious and a lovely size for a couple and baby/toddler.
