London can be a daunting prospect with a baby or toddler to fret
about but, done the right way, it can be crammed full of fun and memories to last a lifetime. The trick is to live like a local with a stylish pied-à-terre in the heart of one of the Capital's most buzzing, sophisticated and convenient locations - this apartment has it all!
St Andrews Mansions is a fantastic safe haven for parents and youngsters
to enjoy the sights and bright lights of the Big City. Location is everything in London and this
flat is spot on - at the heart of Bo-Ho, amongst the exclusive Marylebone residences
near Regent’s Park and all the animals of London Zoo.
With a toddler and baby themselves, the New York-based owners (a local manager is on call), have kitted out their holiday flat with plenty of practical essentials but
also demonstrated their flair for interiors in the chic contemporary style which flows throughout. An open plan lounge and dining room, provides
a light and relaxing living space to chill out after the hustle and bustle of
London, complete with two large sofas, wall mounted flat screen TV, DVD player,
IPod dock and a sleek designer dining table. The kitchen is compact but still
pulls off the designer feel and is well equipped for family cooking. The master
bedroom has a king size bed and a second has twin beds plus space for a crib,
all made up in crisp, indulgent White Company linen. Although the flat is on
the second floor, there’s the relatively rare luxury
in London of a little garden!
When it comes to the baby and toddler kit that’s provided, St
Andrews Mansions comes into its own. On the bulky essentials side there’s a wooden
cot and crib, Stokke Trip Trappe Chair, Ikea high chair, baby bath and stroller. On the fun side, there’s also a baby bouncer, wheelie bug ride-on bumble
bee, scooter and helmet, Lego, train tracks and a play table with chairs for
two. There’s even a bucket and spade to build mini Buckingham Palaces in the sand
play area in Regent’s park. Plus, frazzled parents can have some fun too, as Zoie and
David have two trusted babysitters they’ll be happy to recommend.

The location of St Andrew’s Mansions could hardly be better for families planning a trip to London. Walk in one direction and there’s Madame Tussauds, the Sherlock Holmes Museum on Baker Street and the whole of Regent’s Park to run free, take a boat on the lake or visit the animals in London Zoo. Head in the other direction and the shops of Oxford Street and Bond Street await, not forgetting Niketown at Oxford Circus and Hamleys, the world famous toy store, on Regent Street. Without venturing far at all, there’s also a lovely little park close to the flat to take children to play out
For stocking up on provisions, there’s a Waitrose and Tesco nearby but the owner's also say the best butcher (Ginger Pig) and cheese shop in London are only 5 minutes walk. Surprisingly for central London, there’s even a farmers market on Sundays! It is in the local Waitrose car park.
Needless to say, Marylebone has countless restaurants and places to eat out, from the Michelin star L’Autre Pied to top notch burgers and steaks at Black and Blue in Wigmore Street. Kids love eating out at Giraffe, Canteen or Pizza Express, which are all within a few minutes walk. Further afield, Smollensky's on the Strand has a sophisticated feel but free kids entertainment (magician/face painting/balloon modelling usually), which is handily located a few steps from the home of the fantastic Lion King musical.

St Andrews Mansions was fabulous! The flat was so well stocked with toys, books, apple tv with sesame street podcasts for our 2.5 year old was a huge hit! The kitchen had everything you would need to prepare kids' meals including a very good blender. The decor was fabulous. The travel cot was a superb quality baby bjorn one with good mattress and white company linen rather than the usual rubbish travel cot you get when you travel. Both kids slept really well as did we. The location is spot-on and all in all we loved it. Dave, the guy they have managing the flat is particularly helpful and always available. The only thing is that it is up 2 flights of stairs so you'd definitely need a good folding buggy which you can carry in one hand with baby in the other

Lovely accommodations, truly provided everything you could need for a great baby friendly stay in the heart of London. Two blocks from a convenient Tube station (Baker St - several lines connect here) and tons of great restaurants, shops and parks nearby. And the amenities in the flat were fantastic. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable - lots of great guidebooks on the local area and a very well equipped kitchen. For the level of amenities and the location and given the high cost of hotel rooms in London, I would recommend this flat without reservation.
