The extra thought and effort that makes Rothay Manor so baby friendly reflects the quintessential country house hotel commitment to high standards, excellent service and a warm welcome for everyone. Owned and managed by the Nixon family for more than 40 years, The Rothay Manor has been listed in The Good Hotel Guide since the first edition and held their prestigious Cesar Award for 10 years on the trot.
In a prime Lake District setting, Rothay Manor was originally built in 1823 as a private residence for a prosperous Liverpool merchant and retains many original Regency features, including the elegant grade II listed frontage. Re-invented as a country house hotel, there are now three spacious family suites and sixteen bedrooms, a comfy lounge and bar with period furnishings and roaring fire, plus a superb family friendly restaurant with 1 AA rosette.
The quality of the food and particularly family friendly dining are among the big plus points when enjoying an indulgent Lake District break with babies or toddlers in tow. Between 6.15 - 6.30pm, pre-ordered Children’s High Tea is served either in the restaurant under parent’s supervision or in guest’s room, offering something for all tastes, from fresh fish of the day to intricate ice cream clowns. Young children are also made to feel very welcome in the Family Dining Room at 7pm, choosing from a special Young Diners Menu or child’s portions from the grown up’s dinner menu. For dinner without the little ones for once, baby listening monitors are available and work from all the suites and bedrooms, or babysitting can be arranged.
Rothay Manor is set in extensive landscaped grounds, with fine views of the Lakeland fells, plenty of places for children to play hide and seek, or croquet and boules on the lawn. A public children’s playground is just a few minutes’ walk away in Rothay Park, along with crazy golf, tennis courts and a grassy football pitch. For playing indoors, books, toys and U-rated DVD’s are all available at Rothay Manor and in the school holidays, a selection of games are often set out in the Brathay Room. In addition, families can enjoy free use of the swimming pool, toddler pool and gym at Low Wood Leisure Club just 1.5 miles away, where mum might even sneak in a pampering treatment or two.
