Possibly the ultimate country cottage escape, Rose Cottage combines a picture-perfect romantic cottage exterior - down to the rose-filled cottage garden - with a high spec contemporary interior blending practical mid-century design classics and modern comforts including Wifi, Denon hifi system, DVD and Wii.
The house is perfect for indoor and outdoor living and entertaining with open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge area. There is access from the lounge to a terrace and garden with barbecue for those warm summer days with stunning views across the Wiltshire/Dorset valley. In addition to the 3 double bedrooms in the main house, there's also a 1-bedroom garden house perfect for accompanying grannies, nannies or teenagers complete with its own bathroom and terrace (no kitchen).
Outside, there's acres of space for children to play safely, with a fenced in garden area complete with sandpit. The surrounding woodlands and footpaths are idea for 'bear' hunting, picnics and wildlife spotting.
For a special night in, nearby Pythouse Kitchen stocks everything you would expect to find in a deli or farm shop, has online ordering and can deliver. Budding chefs will enjoy a visit to pick
their own fresh vegetables and fruit from the walled garden and satisfy your carnivorous cravings from the estate, which sells lamb, poultry and beef.

The nearby market town of Shaftsbury is worth a visit, with independent shops, pubs, restaurants and Gold Hill, made famous by the Hovis ads. Old Wardour Castle, an enchanting 14th century fortress and the setting for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, is right on the doorstep with fairs and organised activities running throughout the year. For budding little farmers there’s also a petting farm nearby where children can bottle feed the lambs and ride on a tractor. The picturesque Shell and Studland Bay beaches are an hour’s drive away and a day-out at Longleat will certainly keep everyone entertained with its famous wildlife safari, amusement park and steam train.
For more energetic pursuits, there are tennis courts, a swimming pool and an equestrian centre as well as stunning scenic cycle routes within the Dorset Hills area. For a more gentle and relaxed afternoon of activity for grown-ups, there’s Rushmore Golf Club 10 miles away or blissful Bishopstrow House Spa.
For great local eats, head to The Forester in Donhead St Andrew for a high quality varied menu and wonderful fish dishes, or the celebrated Museum Inn in Farnham. A little further afield but worth the drive to Bruton is the wonderful At The Chapel restaurant, wine shop and bakery.
