An idyllic rural retreat inside and out yet just a mile and half's stroll from two villages both with family-friendly pubs serving decent food and village stores, Robin's Nest Cottage is a real find and ideal for an extended family group or two families holidaying together thanks to its layout with three bedrooms on the ground floor and a master suite upstairs.
The cottage's beautiful setting in more than an acre of paddock, fringed by forest, is as much a part of the interior as the fixtures and fittings themselves since there are beautiful views from almost all the rooms, in particular the kitchen diner which has fabulous floor to ceiling windows from where, whilst sitting in one of the funky armchairs, you might spot wild deer, rabbits, badgers or even ponies. The almost totally one level design makes Robin's Nest brilliant for little crawlers or toddlers since they potter about without worry and can easily be kept in sight, yet with freedom to roam a little. The neutral colour scheme with luxury fabric accents and real hardwood floors give the cottage a very high quality feel, which is also reflected in its well equipped kitchen (range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washer/dryer and granite worktops) and luxury touches like the contemporary log burner and flat screen TV/DVD combo (a selection of films and SKY TV with kids channels supplied). There are two lovely bathrooms both with baths and showers, plus the one in the master suite has a skylight perfectly positioned for star gazing whilst soaking in the tub.
Outside there are spacious lawned gardens (enclosed) which are perfect for little ones to roam in safely whilst mum and dad tackle the built-in BBQ or simple relax with a glass of wine on the high quality garden furniture whilst contemplating a view few could tire of. Relaxation is easy thanks to a welcoming box of toys, DVD, books and ride ones for little ones. Plus, provision of a travel cot, high chair, baby bath and steriliser means you can pack light too.
There are many walks and cycle trails in the immediate vicinity of the cottage and cycle hire with tag alongs or baby seat is available locally. In the village is a great pub serving quality food including good options for vegetarians and little ones, along with Furzy Gardens, which has a lovely toddler-friendly play and picnic area and a very good coffee shop. Local family favourites include Longdown Farm, for its friendly farmyard animals, ball pool and BIRO wooden play equipment area. Paultons Park has a great selection of fairground-style rides for toddlers and there’s a range of family-friendly beaches within a short drive. The yachting haven of Lymington is close by and great for boutique shopping and eating out. The Vanilla Bean Café there is both stylish and family-friendly, even offering toys, books and ‘Babychinos’ to keep little ones happy. The Mayflower Inn is a great spot for child-free evenings with a lovely contemporary interior and dinner menu – well worth organising a babysitter for!
For some rejuvinating 'Me-Time', the Spa at nearby Chewton Glen is regarded as amongst the finest in the UK. and offers day spa packages from from around £120-£195 or, try a Twilight Spa package between 5pm - 10pm from around £90pp.

Thank you again for such a wonderful holiday on the farm. You have an absolute
gem there and it really was the most amazing place to bring Imogen on her first
family holiday. The toys kept her more than entertained and the fact there was a
cot, highchair and even a walker saved us so much trouble! I have already
mentioned the cottage to my friends, e-mailed them the photos and have already
had two families looking via baby boltholes for stays this year. Thank
you so much for everything, Jo. You were a fantastic host, really helpful during
our stay and we'll never forget our stay at Robins Bush

Overall the accommodation was lovely. However there are a few aspects which don't make this place "baby friendly", namely 1) the precarious back door step, 2) lack of black out blinds in bedrooms, 3) the stinging nettles all over the edge of the outside toy area, 4) black tar over the wooden sleepers in the outside play area (partic bad when melting in the sun), 5) lack of fridge space for a place that sleeps 10.
Owner Responds: Many thanks for your feedback. We are delighted you found the property lovely but concerned about your comments regarding its baby friendliness. There's a small gap in the back step through which a vine grows. Most guests find the vine adds more to the property than the small gap takes away but we are monitoring it. We have Venetian blinds, which most guests find more than adequate but now also provide a roll of 'stick up' blackout blinds. We have a weekly gardener who is generally on top of nettles but the good weather meant some sprang up quickly. This have now been removed and would have been immediately, had the guests mentioned it. The railway sleepers are usually out of reach of little ones, unless they are permitted to climb around the walls. The property sleeps 8 and, having unpacked the guests shopping, it all fitted in very well, but again, we will monitor this. I hope that, the past 5 guests' independent rating of 'Excellent' or 'Outstanding' for baby-friendliness, is more reflective than this feedback, which seems a little harsh
