The Dairy at Daviot Amenities

With its own gelato-style ice cream bar and licensed cafe, little ones and grown-ups alike are in for a treat staying in one of the 4-star cottages that make up The Dairy at Daviot.
In the spectacular Scottish Highlands, just outside Inverness, The Dairy is owned by a 4th generation farming family who’s herd of Holstein and Jersey cows produce the creamy milk for their homemade gelato. There are 15 tempting flavours to try as well as seasonal fruit sorbets and frozen yoghurts, plus families are welcome to visit their Black Isle Dairy to find out how it’s made.

In 2008, the owners completed the conversion of several pink sandstone farm buildings into six, 2-bedroom cottages, clustered around an original cobbled courtyard at the heart of their private estate. Not stopping there, they also opened the Black Isle Dairy ice cream bar and a lovely cafe which is open daily from 10am to 5pm, serving luscious sandwiches, salads and afternoon teas, appetising 3-course menus, children’s menu and Sunday roasts. Homemade dishes from the cafe are available to take-away and can be pre-ordered and in the fridge on arrival, accompanied by a bottle of wine and Scottish shortbread in the welcome pack.

The cottages have been appropriately named after traditional breeds of cattle and individually designed to enhance the original character with contemporary interiors, including colourful tweeds, luxury linens and locally commissioned photography. All the cottages are comfy, cosy and well equipped with flatscreen TV’s, DVD player, digital radio, iPod dock and free WiFi, and the bright, modern kitchens have all the essential appliances and cookware for family self catering. Each of the cottages has two ensuite bedrooms, made up as one super king-size double and one twin room, with Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy towels, Au Lait toiletries and hairdryers.

For families to spill outside, the cottages have outdoor tables and barbecue facilities plus children will make a bee-line for an enclosed children’s play park with a sunken trampoline, playhouse, swings and a sand pit with buckets and spades. Fields and woodlands surround the cottages but watch out for the hairy, horned Highland cows!

Accommodation overview
The Dairy at Daviot comprises six cottages which each have two ensuite bedrooms with space for a travel cot or z-bed, which can be provided.

Ayrshire is a bright, contemporary cottage for a family of 4, plus a baby in a cot and/or toddler in a z-bed, and well behaved dogs are welcome too. The entrance hallway, sitting room and bedrooms are all fitted with oatmeal-coloured wool carpets which are cosy for little toes while the dining kitchen and bathrooms are tiled for less stressful spills and splashes. The sitting room is furnished with leather sofas, plump cushions, soft throws and a coffee table for playing with the games provided, or families can watch Freeview channels and DVD’s on the digital flatscreen TV, listen to the digital radio or their own iPod or make use of the free WiFi. The dining kitchen fitted with pale sea-green units and includes a Whirlpool oven and electric hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, combined washing machine/tumble dryer and all the essential cookware and crockery, including a bottle steriliser. There is a round dining table that seats 4 and highchairs are available. Upstairs, the master bedroom is made up as a super king size bed and the second has twin beds, both with fitted wardrobes and storage and featuring a Velux skylight as well as a traditionally deep sash and case window. Both bedrooms are ensuite, with a bath and overhead shower, washbasin and WC. There is another WC downstairs and a cupboard under the stairs is handy storage, for coats, shoes and boots.
