Petite Cabanes is a little piece of rural heaven in a fabulous setting with views over rolling hills, vineyards and woodland, offering the perfect retreat from busy lives. Peace, tranquillity space and views combine with all mod cons and extensive baby and child friendly facilities to make this a special place for everyone to unwind from the moment they arrive. A Pre arrival grocery and baby items shopping service means everything can be ordered in advance so that relaxation really can begin the moment the car pulls up on the drive.
Once settled into the comfortable spacious renovated barn, the only dilemma is what to do next: Whether to chill by the pool with a glass or wine watching the little ones play in the warm shallows or wander the grounds to discover the outdoor play area with swings, slide, ride ons, tepee and play house, the animals to feed or the games equipment and bicycles, there is plenty on site inside and out to entertain for at least two weeks!
And once the sun goes down, there are long balmy candle lit evenings, barbeques and local food and wine to be enjoyed, whilst the children are safely tucked up in bed. Sheer bliss!
Julie and Steve, the on-site English speaking owners offer a warm welcome and help and advice when parents need it, but otherwise are discreet and largely invisible. They are on hand to offer tips and advice on local places to eat, drink, horse ride, kayak, or anything in between to make the most of precious holiday time.
Accommodation Overview:
'Petite Cabanes' is actually one and the same as the 6-7-bedroom 'Las Cabanes', which can be rented here (click to view), the difference being that as 'Petite Cabanes' it is rented as a lower cost, 3-bedroom barn, with the guests' choice of three of the six bedrooms i.e. doubles, twins, bunks, singles, agreed and made-up in advance, with the other bedrooms available only if required and at an extra cost.
This spacious barn conversion is situated on a 3-acre former farm set 50-metres from a quiet country lane with very little traffic. A 10-minute cycle ride finds the pretty village of Le Temple-sur-Lot with restaurant, boulangerie, grocery shop, organic mini market and access to the River Lot.
The six ground floor bedrooms comprise: 2 double rooms with king size bed, a family room with king size bed and bunk beds, a twin room (two single beds), a single room and a room with a set of bunk beds. This allows families can pick the ideal three bedroom layout for them. Cots can be added to any room and beds are made-up prior to arrival.
The accommodation is adjacent to the pool terrace with access to the large private alarmed solar heated pool, sun terrace and children’s play area. There is plenty of outdoor space including a play lawn for ball games, sunny and shaded seating areas and mature grounds to explore or build dens in. And all of this is for your exclusive use. Behind the owners accommodation there is a chicken coop and animal petting area where guests are welcome to come and feed the chickens or collect their eggs.
Petite Cabanes is entered via a vine covered terrace into the rustic country kitchen with exposed beams and terracotta floors and plenty of storage space for essential supplies. The Kitchen is well equipped with stainless steel 5-ring gas cooking range, dish washer, washing machine, large fridge freezer, microwave, nespresso machine, cookery books, table and chairs.

Petite Cabanes is ideal for getting away from it all, deep in beautiful French countryside but the villages of Le Temple Sur Lot and Castelmoron are also only 3km away for the nearest boulangeries, bars and restaurants. The villages are also on the banks of the Lot, where river beaches are just the place for a picnic, paddling and fresh water swimming, or motor boats, canoes and funky paddle boats are available for hire.
To stock up on essential shopping, there are four supermarkets within 15 minutes drive but the local artisan shops and markets are a highlight in themselves. Throughout the summer, evening markets also have a friendly family atmosphere for a memorable night out, sampling local delicacies and the fine regional wines. The Lot region borders mile upon mile of famous Bordeaux vineyards so there are numerous chateau and ‘caves’ offering tastings and tours. Plus there are great restaurants to suit all budgets including Michelin-starred establishments, in nearby Pujol and Villeneuve-Sur-Lot.
For guests who can tear themselves away from Las Cabanes, there are free passes to the local tennis courts available and a variety of family attractions nearby including two water parks with slides, pools, jacuzzis and cafe/bars within an hours drive. Parc Walibi features a variety of rides and roller coasters plus sea lion shows, or at Parc en Ciel little monkeys can clamber around on a special web of Tyrolean cables for little ones 2-6 years and older kids and adults can sample more challenging courses or simply relax by the outdoor pool and playground there. Facilities for horse-riding, 10-pin bowling, underground cave exploration and fishing are available nearby and the owners also provide a variety of child and adult bikes for exploring the surrounding countryside and villages.
Getting There: The nearest airport is Bergerac (70km) with flights available from several UK airports with low cost airlines including Ryanair, Flybe, BMI and Easyjet.
Nearest Medical Services: GP at Castelmoron, 3km. A&E at Villeneuve sur Lot (15km)

Owner Profile
Las Cabanes is owned and looked after by Julie and Steve Cormack and their daughters Annabelle and Lily. They live discreetly on site but are on hand if you need anything at all during your stay. Julie worked in HR and teaching and Steve worked in telecoms and management before taking the plunge and moving to France in 2003. They had holidayed with their own small children and found it difficult to find properties that catered specifically for families. Their desire was to set up and run a family friendly gite, offering comfortable relaxed family accommodation whilst providing all the necessary equipment for small children, so that clients can pack light and relax from the moment they arrive. They fell in love with the unspoilt Lot et Garonne region. "It's like an unspoilt Tuscany or Provence and I'd better shut up now or I'll be responsible for spoiling it." Sam Taylor -The Observer. Although new to the baby friendly site, Steve and Julie have been successfully providing fantastic family holidays here at Las Cabanes since 2004. It goes without saying that we love the weather. Long hot summers, warm sunny springs and temperatures in double figures sometimes even in December. But also we love the space, tranquility, peace and views and the fact we can be totally in the countryside but within a few minutes can get to all amenities and attractions. There are great circular walks from the property too and we still get a thrill when we spot wildlife locally. I love the sound of green woodpeckers tapping in the trees or the sound of the nightingales singing on balmy evenings. Seeing a family of wild boar with babies when driving back from the supermarket is something I'll never forget. We feel really lucky to have found our little corner of paradise. We hope you love it too.

All our little visitors love the large 10 x 5 m pool with roman steps for them to play in the shallows. They seem to happily while away many hours in and around the pool area. Petting the animals is popular too, especially collecting the eggs from our chickens: Lulu, Gertrude Hilda and Doris. Our own children love the space, exploring, den building, using their imagination and being free. Animal and bird spotting guides have proved popular and can get competitive! Organised craft activities and treasure hunts are always a hit. Extensive on site facilities mean families often don't venture far. For babies and toddlers we have ball pool, paddling pool, ride ons, slide and baby swing. For the under 8's we have swings, slide, tepee, dressing up clothes, rocking horse, bikes, football nets, balls, indoor books, toys, games, age appropriate dvd's etc. For the older children we have full size pool table, table football, basket ball nets, badminton, tennis, boules, rounders etc.
