In the ‘gateway to the Gower’ seafront town of Mumbles, this 5-star restaurant with rooms achieves a rare balance of grown up sophistication with a genuinely warm welcome for families. Offering seriously good food and scooping a design award, Patricks With Rooms isn’t a snooty place where families are snubbed as second class citizens but there’s no compromise on style or service either. From babies and the terrible two’s to ‘in-betweeners’ and ‘whatevers’, the family owners have made a special point of understanding and meeting the needs of every age group, drawing on plenty of experience that happy offspring equals happy parents!
Catherine and Patrick, Sally and Dean (with a little help from mum and dad), have been at the helm for 17 years, running the business with a professional yet personal, hands-on approach. From freshly-picked pea shoots to local laverbread, the fine food is a passion so the team do all they can so everyone can enjoy it. There’s an informal nibbles menu in the lounge bar and a pre-bookable toddlers afternoon tea served in the rooms so mums and dads can treat themselves to a more glamorous dinner in the restaurant...baby monitor in hand!
At the heart of Patricks, the welcoming lounge bar is the place to chill out on comfy sofas and play a game of cards, sneak a cheeky cocktail or sample the nibbles, with the added convenience of a separate family loo, complete with baby changing facilities, nappies, cream etc . Patricks also has a gym and mischievously suggests that a 20 minute work-out equals one chocolate brownie! There are 16 sea-facing bedrooms, all of which have their own individual style, space for a cot/childs bed and feature lavish bathrooms, luxury toiletries and designer finish touches. Every room has Wi Fi, free view TV and a DVD player with a selection of films to choose from on the landing.
Mini guests are given their own special toiletries and access to a 'magic cupboard' housing toys including body boards, fishing nets, buckets and spades and scooters, which are always hot given there's a lovely flat promenade and a handy play park directly opposite. The promenade, which is ideal for a pushchair stroll, host regular departures by land train to the brilliant Blackpill Lido, an freeform paddling pool with play park and funky cafe bistro about two miles down the coast.
Accommodation Overview:

Patricks With Rooms boasts a prime location on Mumbles
promenade, at the heart of the buzzing holiday town where Catherine Zeta Jones chose
to build her South Wales family mansions. Within 10 minutes from Swansea, Mumbles
is set on a vast bay of sea and sky, with a maze of narrow streets tumbling to
the seafront. Leafy parks, cafes, arcades and a lido are strung along the promenade
which is ideal for pushchair strolls, bike rides, scootering and rollerblading.
There’s a fun, holiday vibe by the sea but just a street or two back from the
main drag, Mumbles is a higgledy piggledy delight of pretty cottages, chic
eateries, cool pubs and interesting little shops. Mumbles also has a wide range
of high street shops and supermarkets plus indulgent deli’s, fresh fish shops, quality
butchers and tempting bakers
On the doorstep, there are numerous beaches to choose from, for surfing, rock pooling or simply running free on sandy shores. From Patricks, a circular walk follows the coast path past Bracelet and Limeslade Bays to Rotherslade, Langland and Caswell Bays, with plenty of opportunities for a welcome ice cream or dining and drinks with fab sea views. Besides the beaches, essential conservation work has also just been completed at Mumbles’ impressive Oystermouth Castle, dating back to the 12th century.
In addition to the leisure and pleasure of Mumbles itself, the town’s other major claim to fame is as the one of the main gateways to the Gower Peninsula, renowned for its stunning coastal scenery, pretty coves and delicious salt marsh lamb!
