For a much needed break from the rush rush rush of daily routine, The Cotswolds is a world away from frenetic modern life and One The Coates is a luxurious family retreat nestling right at the heart of its unspoilt, quintessential Englishness! The pubs, restaurants and shops of Winchcombe are just 10 minute’s stroll and many of The Cotswold’s most picture perfect, period drama towns and thatched cottage villages are close by.
One The Coates is 100 years old but has been completely transformed over the last few years to offer luxurious, contemporary accommodation for a family of 6, including lots of helpful baby essentials. Not content with simply sprucing up the cottage with a lick of paint, the owner added a new roof, kitchen, bathroom/shower room, heating system, cloakroom and laundry room to make the cottage a superb family home from home.
The styling throughout has a simple sophistication, the rooms are light, spacious and comfortable. Two large sofas in the living room are just the place to curl up to watch a good film on the 40" flat screen TV with Sky+ and a DVD player. There’s a box stuffed filled with toys if little ones need some extra entertaining and handy Wi-Fi throughout, should parents need to check up on things at home. For a quiet read, guests can simply pick a book from the case in the entrance hallway and settle into the armchair in front of the cosy wood burner. An open plan kitchen/dining room is well equipped with all mod cons, a 32” flat screen TV and a table for up to 8, plus a separate utility room features a washer, dryer and additional sink. The three bedrooms have been finished to the highest standards with tasteful art and luxurious linen, while the ensuite and family bathroom come complete with fluffy towels and fine toiletries.~
One The Coates has a country garden full of flowers to the front of the house, with a netted pond and mill stream where children may be tempted to dip little toes or splosh pebbles. The enclosed rear garden also has an impressive 80m² slate terrace, dining area for eight and bbq, plus youngsters can get back to nature and pick seasonal produce from the vegetable garden and glasshouse.

One The Coates is just 10 minutes walk from the Saxon Cotswold market town of Winchcombe, with lots of enticing shops and excellent places to eat and drink. The White Hart Inn, featuring the Wine & Sausage restaurant, is a good choice for real ales and quality British dishes or for a treat, the family run Restaurant 5 North Street has been awarded a Michelin star. Stock up on goodies from Food Fanatics deli, pop into Pilcher & Newman butchers and pick up fresh baked bread from Norths. For general groceries, Winchcombe also has a Co-operative supermarket.
Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the typically idyllic Cotswold villages nearby, regularly voted one of the prettiest in England and perfect for a picnic by the river. The village is also home to the Cotswold Motoring Museum and Toy Collection, packed with impressive vintage vehicles and quirky memorabilia. Broadway is almost too much like a film set to be true and Snowshill is renowned for its English lavender fields.
To explore the Cotswolds on foot, Winchcombe provides the ideal starting point, being at the intersection of the Cotswold Way, Gloucestershire Way, Wardens Way, Windrush Way, Wychavon Way and the unofficial St Kenelm's Way. It’s also on The Honeybourne Line of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway for taking a trip on a steam train, perhaps even one of fish and chip specials! The area is also steeped in history with Sudeley Castle, Hailes Abbey and Spoonley Villa all within walking distance from the cottage. Cheltenham is only 8 miles away so what better excuse for a day at the races.
For little ones, a trip to the Cotswolds Farm Park is always a favourite.
