Scotland’s majestic Highlands with their beautiful peaks, forests and sand-fringed lochs form the backdrop to Millness Croft, a 120-acres of bewitching beauty and the setting for three luxurious cottages, all of which overlook the moor, forest and burn (small river), but not each other. Although just a short drive from the cosmopolitan city of Inverness and the world-famous Loch Ness, Millness feels a truly a world apart. Owners Justine and Neil Akeroyd stumbled on Millness when seeking the perfect location to ‘down shift’ and focus on the early years with their much longed for IVF twins. Whilst there’s no doubt they've found a magical place to bring up children, the fantastically well-equipped and cared for cottages illustrate that they continue to work just as hard!
The Akeroyds’ experiences of travelling with twins are reflected in the range of equipment provided in the cottages. Parents appreciate the well-equipped kitchens, which come with everything you’d expect plus more in the form of microwaves, coffee makers, food blenders, dishwashers, satellite TV (with Cbeebies!), elegant Denby crockery for adults and fun plastic crockery and cutlery for the kids. They are also equipped with wireless broadband, wood burners, and large gardens with pretty patio/BBQ areas - ideal for relaxing on the long, light summer nights. Of all the features, perhaps the grounds are the best. Guests are encouraged to explore, make new four-legged friends with the cows and newborn lambs, and collect their own free-range eggs for breakfast.
Share Tips & Advice Show Location Map Guests often find that simple pleasures like gazing at the endless blanket of stars that fill the sky thanks to the lack of light pollution, paddling and messing about with fishing nets in the shallow waters of the burn (a fair distance from the cottages), and wild deer spotting can be the most memorable. Further afield, Inverness is emerging as a cosmopolitan city with great shopping thanks to a new shopping centre and old Victorian arcades, and fantastic food and drink, ranging from award winning Michelin starred restaurants to street cafes. Castle, museums, dolphin watching, aqua-dome and football are also great family entertainment. Of course Nessie hunting, is an essential part of any family break at Millness Croft, since its just minutes from the enigmatic Loch Ness. Bike hire with tag alongs can be pre-booked, as can beauty therapy, hairdressing, pony trekking, home cooked meal delivery and babysitting.

Justine and Neil have thought of everything to make sure you have an amazing holiday. It was great to have a whole new selection of toys for our one-year old to play with, which they provided, and all other baby equipment leaving the car free to bring your own goodies. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom spotless. The cottage is really warm and cosy. The area is also great with toddlers as there are lots of forest trails that aren't too strenuous with a baby backpack on your back, and lots of wildlife to see up close including a pinemartin who comes for his bread and jam every evening!

Owner Profile
Neil and Justine Akeroyd are the owners and makers of Millness. They have young twin boys themselves and have travelled extensively, so they know what they want and they aim to give it to you. They work hard, with commitment and passion, nothing less than 100% perfect is good enough for them. |
We LOVE the sense of peace, quiet and tranquillity that Millness offers. It is a truly unique, special and even a mystical place where the worries of the modern world are easily forgotten. There is no crime. There is no light or noise pollution. (You wont hear a car or house alarm here!) There is so much space and fresh air; places like this are hard to find these days. You can while away hours watching wild deer, or pine martens feed at your bird table. If you can get the chance to read a book with a glass of wine whilst listening to the burn babble by its good for the soul; special moments like this make Millness very special indeed.

Children love it here becuase they can move about freely without the worry of traffic, strangers or pollution. This is heaven on earth to them; 30 acres to explore. Guaranteed all they want to do is play in the burn building dams or at pooh sticks, and running wild through the long grasses and climbing trees! ...we also have lots of toys, both in and outdoor to play with too. ...and they sleep really, really well after a day of some of the freshest air in Northern Europe. Result!
