Le Manoir de Longeveau’s fantastic combination of pretty gîte accommodation, beautiful setting and brilliant facilities, including a crèche, golf course, tennis courts and a bar/restaurant, make it a real find and ideal for families with young children. Within hours of arriving it’s easy to see why so many fellow guests return year after year –a particularly tempting proposition when enjoying a relaxing drink on the bar’s sunny terrace and soaking up the beautiful scenery!
The 16th century former Cognac estate’s elegant yet relaxed and friendly ambience is helped along by the fact that guests can do as much or as little as they wish. Little ones can attend the professionally staffed crèche, which runs from late May until late September, as and when parents require, and adults can relax by one of the pools, enjoy a round of golf (9-holes), a drink and a meal on the bar’s terrace, a spot of boules or a game of tennis, with our without tuition. There are also acres of open countryside to explore nearby and onsite with an outdoor play area and paddling pool, for enjoying time with little ones. The fact that there’s a 40-ft heated outdoor pool, is also a bonus for those with small babies who may find unheated pools chilly, even in summer.
The pretty gîtes sleep from two to eight and are nestled in small clusters scattered amongst the 60 acres of beautiful grounds, either close to the Manoir itself or a few minutes’ walk away at the hamlet of Puygironde, which overlooks Longeveau and the golf course. All have been recently renovated to a high standard, mainly from old farm buildings and each has charming original features including old beams, exposed stonework and timber or clay tile floors. Most have open-plan living areas with well-equipped kitchens, although there are no dishwashers and laundry facilities are in a well-equipped communal laundry room. Each has a private outdoor seating area and BBQs, which are useful for quite nights ‘at home’, after busy days and when not making the most of the bar’s terrace for meals and drinks, or communal BBQ nights.
Le Poulailler -
Enjoying the back garden of the Manoir at the front of the cottage and great views of the golf course and open countryside to the rear, you can enjoy the sun all day round. On entering the property, a step down leads to an open plan kitchen with a cosy dining / living room. Double doors open out onto a small terrace to the rear and the gardens that sweep down to the golf course behind. The shower room / w.c. is located adjacent a short flight of stairs up to the mezzanine double bedroom above.
Please Note: In order to satisfy local tax laws, Longeveau charges a additional £12 per adult and £5 per child (over 5s only) fee to cover general facilities. Other additional costs include: £10 per bed for linen, £6 per towel, £15 per cot with linen and £30 to hire additional beds, if required and space permitting.
Longeveau is situated on the border between the Charente and the Dordogne, relatively close to Bordeaux and the unspoilt beaches of the Atlantic coast as well as the green Perigord region to the east. The River Dronne (3kms) provides many opportunities for fishing and canoeing.
Don’t miss a trip to nearby Aubeterre (5kms), which was recently voted one of France’s prettiest towns and has river swimming from a sandy beach, plus a popular puppet theatre - great fun for adults and children alike! Bordeaux, St. Emilion and Cognac are all within easy reach and famous for their wines and spirits.
There are some very good and well priced restaurants within a few miles of Longeveau, most are detailed in the guest folder in each gîte and the Manoir’s staff are always happy to make reservations for guests. For shopping and grocery supplies, St Severin is the nearest village (5mins by car) and boasts a small range of shops including a boulangerie, butchers and small supermarket. There are also the markets in Chalais and RIberac (20mins) and the more sophisticated shopping in the large and historic towns of Augouleme and Perigeux, both only around 40mins away. The very popular La Palmyra Zoo, Aqualand Waterpark and Futurescope are all within 1.5 – 2 hrs drive.
Getting There: The nearest airports are Bordeaux or Bergerac (approx 75mins). Whilst Poiters, Limoges and La Rochelle are around two hours away. St. Malo is the nearest ferry port at five hours drive.

The best holiday we've had since becoming parents. Our son is now nearly three and he loved the creche, he actually asked if he could go every day! We loved the gite, the tennis, the location. Shame about the weather ....5 star rating!

Have just come back from a wonderful family holiday at Longeveau. Wonderful laid back and friendly atmosphere throughout. It exceeded our expectations. A key decision in choosing Longeveau was the creche facility which did not disappoint. Our 3 children couldn't wait to go to the Creche each morning. Lorraine was amazing with them and kept them entertained all morning. We in turn were able to enjoy a few hours together recharging our batteries! We will definately return next year.

Absoultely wonderful! The Cottage was gorgeous and incredibly well equipped for both us and our 19 month old son. The restaurant is lovely and within baby monitor distance (from Four a Pain Cotatge). The garden was great and although there was access through to two others but the whole area was very secure. We did not use the creche but were still able to make full use of all the toys and play equipment. All in all a fantastic place to stay and 5 stars from us. Just thinking about booking for next year.

Had a fantastic, relaxing holiday. It is a perfect place for little children (ours were 22 months and 4 months. Lorraine at the creche is lovely and both children were very happy to go there for a couple of mornings. Facilities are great, accommodation comfortable and staff very helpful. Our only downside was the restaurant which had the same menu all week and the food didn't live up to our expectations though enjoyed the bbq night. Overall we had a great holiday and would definitely go again.

We had a great time and found everyone very helpful and friendly. The things we would criticise are the lack of a childrens menu in the restaurant and the playground was lacking in equipment - just 2 swings and a slide. Overall a very enjoyable holiday though and we would definitely recommend.

We stayed in Petite Ferme, one of the new gites for 2009 season and it was great - very well equipped with dish washer & washing machine (which most gites don't have) and a bath which is also v. useful with young children. The creche was the best thing about Loneveau - Lorraine is simply fantastic, she is really good with the children and has a wonderful selection of toys for indoor & outside use. The swimming pool is too small and not really heated at all and the toddler pool, which was warm, was so crowded that it really took the fun away from it. They are building a new pool for 2010 but I still don't know if this will be enough. All in all, though, a great holiday but if there wasn't the creche it would not have been nearly as special. BFB Note: During our visit in June '09, when there was both a heatwave and a lot of BFB families there, we found the pools (there are currently two large and 1 toddler with a third planned for 2010) more than adequate. More pool beds were needed though. These were apparrently on order
