"Eco-chic organic farm-on-sea" best sums up the Levendis Estate, a cluster of four modest cottages nestled on a wooded hillside overlooking one of unspoilt Ithaca's most beautiful bays. Even a cursory glance at the guestbook indicates that, for many, Levendis hovers pretty close to paradise. Stories of evenings spent watching dolphins in the bay below or picnics in the woods, moonlight swims in the infinity pool and falling asleep to the sound of the sea, are common. Parents of young children in particular appear to be big fans with many a mother claiming the typical 7 day de-frazzlement process taking a mere 48 hours thanks to the idyllic location and warm welcome from friendly Australian Greek owners Spero and Marilyn.
Experience with their own three kids is evident in the the long list of baby gear and kids toys provided by Spero and Marilyn. Books, board games, beach toys, and even push chairs are provided (see grey box below). Like a modern-day Pied Piper, Spero is frequently found leading a gaggle of mini guests off to feed the sheep or pick the organic fruit and vegetables, which are left in baskets outside Marilyn's 'coffee shop' for guests to help themselves too. Combined with the ingredients of the generous welcome pack (see grey box) this can often be enough to knock up a full meal in the well equipped cottage kitchens, however Marilyn and daughter Kate knock up delicious breakfasts daily with top notch coffee and fabulous waffles. They can also make up hampers for picnics on the beach or a boat trip, as well as supplies for evening BBQs. Alternatively, with 24 hours notice, live-out chef Nadia nips by on her moped to deliver freshly whipped up delicious Mediterranean/Middle Eastern meals from a menu provided.
The spectacular sea views are hard to rival and its orchards fragrant olive groves and surrounding Greek countryside make the estate a dream location for both adults and tots. The accommodation comprises of four separate houses, each traditionally designed with laid back luxury in mind- they each have their own private terrace (from which mini guests can enjoy dolphin spotting )and full use of the stunning and of course gated infinity pool. Despites its incredible beauty it’s the services at Levendis that make it truly special. Guests do not need to worry about a thing as Marilyn and Spero have thought of everything, from the 24 hour laundry service, to baby sitting and day care -which goes far beyond the usual hotel sitters. Levendis baby sitters can prepare meals, read bedtime stories and even put them to bed for you so that parents can go and explore the islands culinary delights safe in the knowledge that their precious ones are being probably cared for. On top of this there is a whole host of baby gear and toys provided which help to keep little ones entertained and allow parents to pack light and stress free. For those who require extra relaxing, massages (June-Sept) can be arranged at the estate's pavilion which is set over looking the sea and mountains beyond and is the perfect escape whilst the children are helping the owners feed the farmyard animals and collect the days eggs. Should guests ever manage to prise themselves away from the estate and take a trip to one of the many pretty coves that scatter Ithaca's coastline (one is just a short walk from Levendis) they will be provided with a specialised beach goody bag which includes mineral based sun creams , parasols, jelly shoes and toys.

Despite its rather tricky positioning with no island airport to speak of, owners Marilyn and Spero have ensured that this is not an issue, once confirmed all bookings are put into their thoughtful hands who ensure that a personal pick up and transport guide is given to each arriving guest (Athens or Kefallonia airports only) so that their path to Levendis estate is as stress free and enjoyable as possible even with mini guests in tow.
The cottages tariff is based on 3 guests over the age of 5 and infants under 2. The house sleeps upto 4 guests comfortable although a 5th guest can be accommodated with use of an extra bed. Extra guests can be selected from the options/extra section. A 4th guests aged 5 and over is charged at 500 Euros per week, children between the age of 2-4 will be charged only 300 Euros a week. The price for a 5th guest, put me up bed is 350 Euros per week. Levendis offers guest's the rare treat to truly escape and delve into a new culture, brimming with history, on an Idyllic Island that has managed to escape the casualty of major tourism. Despite its place in history as the home of Homer's Ulysses, unlike many historical destinations it has managed to retain its traditions and guests wishing to explore the historical sights will be able to do so leisurely, even with little ones as there are no stressful long queues or vulgar tours in sight.
Marilyn and Spero are always available to organise guest activities whether its simply advising on the best walks, beaches or restaurants they are quite as happy arranging anything from scuba diving, snorkelling and horse riding days to guest's own private and crewed yacht charters.
Getting around is made easy, as every family is provided with a car, which will be ready and parked on the estate for whenever guests wish to use it. Though with several beaches just below the estate and a bustling sea side village only 2km away with it's range of pretty traditional restaurants , bars and shops guests may not even require the car.
Getting There: A personal pick up/transport guide is given to each guest arriving at Athens or Kefallonia airport. BMI, Easy Jet, Olympic and Aegean airlines fly directly to Athens from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted whilst charter flights are available to Kefollinia from Newcastle, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham and London Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.
