'La Vieille Abbaye' might once have been the site chosen by local monks for their abbey but a recent careful and luxurious renovation by its Anglo-French owners and Stephane and Kate Le Moigne, who live on site with their young family, has made it a place both parents and their offspring will find truly worship-worthy!
The setting alone is stunning being a 600 acre dairy farm with beautiful rural views and neighbourhood Friesians almost as far as the eye can see, but it’s the attention to detail in the interiors, facilities and services that really make the Abbaye a truly special find. The interiors are a pretty yet elegant blend of Scandinavian country chic and pretty French antiques, whilst the truly huge list of baby gear (see grey table below) guarantees stress-free packing for parents.
The gite can be rented by the floor or all together as one large house. All bedrooms are ensuite with a double and sofa bed on the ground floor, two bedrooms on the first floor (one with king-sized double and single, and one with double and single) and a further two on the second floor including a twin with additional double trundle bed, and a double with an extra single. Each bedroom is beautifully decorated in romantic, contemporary country-chic style with canopied beds and glamorous free-standing baths in two rooms, showers in the others. The ground floor lounge/kitchen/dining room is a huge open plan space with plenty of comfortable seating, a dining table for six, breakfast bar seating for 2-4 and French doors to a large outdoor dining terrace. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with everything from hob, over, frideg freezer, microwave dishwasher and washer dryer to filter coffee maker, Magimix and hand blender. All rooms have sateillite TV with DVD/CD player and there's a PlayStation 2 plus a library of games, DVDs, CDs, Books, puzzles and board games. However, its fair to say that with a fantastic array of play areas, swings, slides, play houses, soft play, trampoline, ride-ons, farmyard friends and tractor rides on request, it is highly unlikely mini guests will be spending much time indoors other than to sleep!
Situated on the edge of the rural village of Barbery, Le Vieille Abbaye is 4km from the nearest town of Bretteville sur Laize, with its selection of shops and weekly street market. Beautiful Swiss Normande, with its stunning scenery and charming riverside restaurants is around 15mins drive away.
