This cluster of three stylishly renovated gîtes set in the coastal village of Longues-sur-Mer, were until very recently a working farm. A thoughtful conversion, with young families in mind, has transformed them into contemporary, comfortable and fantastically well-equipped holiday escapes within walking distance of the sea (1km).
The gîtes have between 2 and 3 bedrooms and have been renovated to a very high standard featuring a combination of contemporary French design and rustic chic. Set in 3.5 hectares, each gîte has a private patio and grassed area to enjoy easy al fresco dining and shared use of both indoor and outdoor play areas where mini guests can play safely and meet new playmates. The entire site is securely enclosed and the car park positioned away from the gîtes allow parents to relax whilst little ones are free to roam. A former barn has been converted into a toddler’s play paradise with trampoline and ride-ons, whilst, behind the barn, the former walled potager has been transformed into a securely enclosed outdoor play area with swingset and sandpit for the kids and sun loungers and hammocks for parents. Surrounding the potager is a paddock offering plenty of space for outdoor games and picnics with beautiful views across the rolling fields to Bayeux.
Gite 3 has two bedrooms comprising: a double and a nursery with full-sized wooden cot and a toddler bed. The bathroom has a bath and shower, and there's a separate toilet. Downstairs, there's a comfortable lounge with TV and DVD player and a well-equipped, dine-in, kitchen with all the usual equipment plus a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.
For a group of family or friends who hire all three gîtes together there is a communal dining/lounge area available free of charge - individual gîtes for each family but a communal socialising area a few steps away – perfect for maintaining privacy and holiday harmony!

Like sister properties, La Cour aux Bourgeois, 4 Rue de la Dive and Domaine de la Tour, the attention to detail in baby/toddler facilities, as well as parent-friendly services including pre-arrival shopping and meal delivery services, here really is outstanding. It is literally a case of just bring yourselves and your clothes, the rest is supplied. A stress-free, relaxing and scenic holiday is all but guaranteed!
There's a local store for groceries and a bakery serving fresh morning croissants within a short stroll, plus a good restaurant in the village. Best of all you can be admiring the fantastic sea views less than 1 km away on foot. Blow those cobwebs away with a walk (or jog!) along the dramatic coastal path all the way to Port-en-Bessin or Arromanches. Alternatively take the winding road down to the pebble cove - a hidden treasure with plenty of scope for rock-pooling and crabbing - Idyllic!
The village of Longues-sur-Mer itself is a wonderful blend of coast and countryside. It is a traditional French village, not a resort, offering easy access to the sea with the space and calm of the countryside. Ideally situated between the pretty port of Port-en-Bessin and the historic town of Arromanches (both 5 minutes by car) there are shops and good restaurants within easy reach and the historic city of Bayeux is only 8km away. The local beach is a pebble cove and there are miles of unspoilt sandy beaches within a few minutes drive.
There are also plenty of activities to occupy little ones within easy reach; from Festyland theme park to zoos and inspiring chateaux for any budding princess or knight in shining armour. Local markets offer fantastic fresh produce and the chance to get up close and personal with the livestock.
Nearest Medical Services: Emergency home visits by Doctor can be arranged or nearest hospital at Bayeux 8km
Getting There: La Ferme de Longues is located at Longues-sur-Mer between Arromomanches and Port-en-Bessin. It is 8km from Bayeux and 37km from Caen. It is within easy reach of the ports of Caen (35mins), Cherbourg (1h10m), Le Havre (1h30m), Calais (3h40m). The nearest airport is Dinard in Brittany (2hrs) where there are daily flights with Ryanair to several UK airports.

The owners are wonderfully welcoming and attentive. Lovely, cosy gite set up with everything you need. The play barn and gardens were fantastic and our two year old absolutely loved them.

We had a lovely time, despite terrible weather! The accomodation was excellent, with everything we required to make our stay as easy as possible. The meal delivery service is great and well worth taking advantage of, very good value for money. (The croissants from the local boulangerie are also fantastic!)

We stayed in Gite 3 of this 3 Gite area and it was lovely. The owners Nellie & Jacques were there to greet us and with their English and our school child French we had a nice chat as they showed us around the property.
The play barn and garden are a nice touch for families and the fact there are 3 Gites you are pretty much guaranteed some little friends for your baby.
Unfortunately our 12 month old son was sick when we stayed but there was a number for an English speaking Dr locally in the folder in the Gite called "Tried & Tested", this also included info on local attractions such as the zoo, beaches, soft play and swimming pool.
The village is quiet and it is easy to get to nearby towns with nice markets.
The Gite is in great condition and furnished really well. We had a cot for our baby and a changing area all set up in his room. There were toys all ready for him and both a highchair and a booster seat to give us options. We were also offered the use of pushchairs though we had bought our own. They were in good condition with rain covers. There was also a steriliser in the property and cutlery suitable for a toddler.
Over all we were really pleased and this is certainly a baby friendly holiday.

We enjoyed our time at La Cour aux Bourgeois so much last year, that I booked a week at the new sister property, La Ferme de Longues, as soon as we found out about it. Aside from the weather, it didn't disappoint: the gites are stylish and packed with all the baby & toddler essentials; our 2 year old loved the playbarn and walled garden; and the meal delivery service ensured my husband and I also had a relaxing break. Being so close to the D-Day beaches added another dimension to the week, and ensured there were plenty of museums to explore when it was too wet to enjoy playing in the sand. We'll be back!

Nelly & Jacques were absolutely lovely hosts - couldn't have been more helpful! It was a beautifully furnished, clean gite with excellent facilities. We have a very small baby, however, for older children the garden & soft play area were fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

The accomodation and facilities at Fermes de Longues were fantastic; however, the village itself was not that baby friendly as there were no pavements which made going out and about difficult other than by car. Also we went slightly out of season and many facilities (local shops, restaurants at tourist sites) were closed which was unfortunate but we feel needs feeding back to people who elect to go outside the main holiday season

Gite 1 at La Ferme des Longues was comfortable and well equipped, with charming hosts and indoor and outdoor toys for the children. Only practical issue was the downstairs WC, a long way from the bedrooms and no sink! Village setting with a good local boulangerie and other shops in nearby Bayeaux or Arromanches. Normandy coastal location means you are well placed for the WW2 beaches and Bayeaux, but a longer haul to other attractions. Rated 5/5. Owner Responds: "Thank you for your comments. A sink has now been added."
Owner Profile
An Anglo-French family, Sarah and Laurent Caille plus toddler and bump, who moved to Normandy from London in August
2002. Drawing on our (disastrous!) first experiences of holidaying with a baby we dreamed of
creating a holiday destination dedicated to young families - somewhere that was beautiful, comfortable yet practical for parents and fun, interesting and safe for young children. The dream became La Cour aux Bourgeois which later developed into the Toddler Holiday concept including La Ferme de Longues, 4 rue de la Dive and Domaine de la Tour. |
We love Normandy because it offers an authentic French life-style but it is just a hop across the channel to get here. Its beautiful scenery and fantastic coast never feel crowded and it's so easy to get around.
