Reviews submitted by past guests are so glowing that you’d be forgiven for having a sneaking suspicion they’d been doctored by the owners! Thankfully, within hours of arriving at this elegant courtyard of three gites you’ll be more than convinced of their authenticity. English ex-pat, Sarah and her French husband, Laurent, have transformed the beautiful former farmhouse and its acres of grounds into stylish yet cosy retreats set around a shared courtyard with play equipment and a play barn so filled with toys that it will have even the hardest to please toddler's eye's popping with glee!
La Cour aux Bourgeois not only welcomes but positively celebrates babies and toddlers. It has been set up specifically for families with children under 5 years and, to maintain a family friendly focus, reservations are only accepted from families with at least one child under 5 years old. Not only is the accommodation baby and toddler focussed help is at hand to get the very most out of your stay: each gite contains a Tried and Tested directory with recommendations and reviews from previous guests detailing things to do and places to visit. The owner’s Travel Tips help guests plan a stress-free journey and arrival with services such as pre-bookable shopping so guests can arrive to a well-stocked fridge and glass of wine!
Gite 2 at La Cour aux Bourgeois is crammed with character boasting lovely beamed walls and ceilings, real wood floors and exposed stone walls. Its been given a romantic feel with cosy red sofas and a large Louis XIV fireplace with woodburner. It was conceived specifically for a couple holidaying with a baby, or baby and a toddler. The two children’s rooms (a nursery with cot and a single with toddler bed) lead off the large parents’ bedroom so whilst the children have their own room they’re nearby and easily reachable during the night. There's a family bathroom with bath and shower over. The well-equipped kitchen comes with a dishwasher and microwave and a communal laundry service negates the need for a washer/dryer and aids relaxation.
‘La Cour aux Bourgeois’ is set within 5 minutes walk of the village of
Villers Canivet, which has a boulangerie to tempt many a guest into pre-breakfast
shopping trips. A little further afield, is the town of Falaise, home to many
attractive shops and bistros, as well as an aquatic centre with a special zone
for under 5s. There are miles of golden sandy beaches, a zoo, theme park
suitable for toddlers, safari park and model railway all within about 40
minutes drive of both locations. Sarah has placed comprehensive ‘Tried and
Tested’ comment books at each property which are filled with tips and advice
from past guests, all of whom have had babies and toddlers in tow, since having
a child under 5 in-tow is a pre-requisite of a stay here.

We chose Cours Aux Bourgeois for our first trip away with our six month old baby. It was a perfect first holiday together. The gite is truly lovely - traditional French rural chic but with modern touches like satellite TV and wifi. Our baby was too young to appreciate the playbarn, but he absolutely loved the swing and enjoyed sitting in the garden picking daisies and looking at the trees. The location is very good for exploring Normandy if you can get your child(ren) out of the playbarn (the other couples staying there seemed to be having problems extracting theirs for day trips!). Sarah is very friendly and helpful. Happily the gite stays cool even when it's boiling outside, and the blackout blinds throughout meant that we all had a brilliant week of sleep.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and loved it. Our youngest slept through for the first time at 11 months as soon as we got there, possibly due to the magic of the place or possibly due to the blackout blinds in her room which are an example of how the owners have thought of everything! Our eldest girl (then aged 4)loved the playbarn and the grounds. We loved the fact the place was safe for a crawler, was better equipped than home and the place was beautiful. Sarah was really helpful and the babysitting was really welcome. Bella who is now 6 recently asked when we are going back, she still rembers and talks about it 2 years later. What greater recommendation can you get!

I wish we d had 2 weeks here to fit it all in. My eldest son cried when I said we were going home. And again, when we got home. He keeps asking when we re going back. As soon as possible I hope! La Cour Aux Bourgeois is how holidays with children should be.

Just got back from a week here with our 19 month old son, and I wanted to to say how wonderful it was. The gite itself was stylish yet comfortable, and contained every bit of baby equipment we could have possibly needed. The playbarn and garden were even more stuffed with toys than I was expecting, and our little boy just loved it. He was so exhausted from playing outside at the end of each day that he slept really well, meaning my husband & I also managed to recharge our batteries a bit. We took advantage of the meal delivery service twice, too, which helped the week feel much more relaxing than a normal self-catering break. In short, this place delivers everything it promises and more, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone with small children as a great place to stay.

We stayed at the gite for a fortnight and had a fabulous time. Our girls (2 and 4)loved the playbarn and the playground, and it was great to allow them to play safely within earshot of us. Having other children around was also a treat as they all made friends and spent a lot of time running around together - which wore them out before bedtime (wonderful). The gite is very spacious and comfortable, full of literally everything you could need if you have children in tow. Plus the surrounding area is full of things to do with children so we were never bored. Highly recommended!

This was a brilliant holiday! We stayed for a week at the end of May and it was lovely. We are newcomers to the whole holiday + children thing so this was an excellent introduction. Our two little girls loved the play barn and the outside play area. The sleeping area was really snug and they slept like a dream (just what you want when you are on holiday!). I would thoroughly recomend it to anyone. Also...the owner is really friendly and very helpful :o)

My family and I stayed 1 week at La Cour Aux Bourgeois - Gite 2 this summer and enjoyed ourselves so much we are coming back next summer for 2 weeks. We have one three year old boys who were in heaven in the Playbarn & garden throughout the week which made our holiday very relaxing! Everything you could ever need with a baby and toddler was supplied. The house and grounds were amazing. So many lovely places to visit on your doorstep. Our holiday exceeded all our high expectations.

The Gite was beautiful and Gite 1 was spotlessly clean and very homely. It was great to have the soft play area and our oldest (3yrs old) loved playing with the other children. In the Gite we found a "Tried and Tested" folder with details of family's personal experiences of local tourist spots and this was invaluable in planning our days out. The food that we ordered from the local restaurant was very good and removed the chore of having to cook. We would highly recommend a holiday at La Cour Aux Bourgeois and in all likelihood will be returning there ourselves in the future.

We had a really wonderfull first holiday with our little daughter. She loved all the toys and huge space. In fact the Gite was big enough for a family with a baby and a toddler. Baby bath, towels and even a tiny bath robe were all provided. The food we could pre order from a local restaurant was really good and the owners are very friendly providing a good unobtrusive service. We will defenitely go back and perhaps take some friends next time.

Sarah was very accommodating and gave us weather forecasts frequently, the Gite was great. The play barn was a favourite for our son, who stood by the front door every morning wanting to walk across the courtyard and try every bike, trike and car!

We had the most wonderful time. The gites are perfect for 3 families wishing to holiday together but also to have that essential private space away from each other and each others kids!!! We usually kept all the doors open and lived as one big house, and congregated in the big kitchen in gite 3 at meal times, warmed by the wood burning stove! We really enjoyed these times, all sitting round the big table: quite impressive for 6 adults, 4 children and 2 babies! I highly recommend this beautiful place, we will definitely be visiting again! It is beautifully decorated, fully equipped with all you could need, and extremely clean! Also Sarah and Laurent are lovely and really helpful, and only a phone call away should you need them!

We stayed for a week with our 15 month-old son, who was at the front door every morning itching to get to the play barn and sand pit. We felt at home in the superbly equipped gite, and happily spent time in the beautiful communal gardens with other couples as the children played together close by. Sarah was great, and whilst the surrounding area was really lovely, we wanted to spend most of our time relaxing at La Cour Aux Borgeois

Sarah was the perfect hostess (she continually went above and beyond the call of duty) and the accommodation exceeded our very high expectations. We will most definitely be going back. It really was the perfect holiday for a couple with two toddlers in tow. Thank you!
