Hollowmead is situated just a short stroll from the village of Bishopteignton, nestled in leafy hills between the seaside harbour town of Teignmouth (2 miles) and the market town of Newton Abbot (4 miles).
Bishopteignton has a village grocery store and two pubs, plus Shute Fruit and Produce is a Pick Your Own farm for the best seasonal fruit, veggies and other tasty goodies. While picking your own fruit and veg is about as simple, honest family fun as you can get, Shute Fruit and Produce also regularly hosts open days with special children’s activities and demos. Grown-ups, on the other hand, will be keen to sample the real ales from the local Red Rock microbrewery.
Historic Teignmouth is a bustling town that combines all the fun of the seaside with a working harbour. On the seaward side of town ‘The Den’ is a sweep of lawns and flower beds which run along the beach, from the promenade to an elegant Georgian crescent, featuring a Victorian Pier, children’s play areas, model railway, theatre and cinema. Fishing boats, pleasure boats and ferries make the estuary a hive of activity and buzzing bars offer a choice of wateringholes with views across the water to Dartmoor in the distance. A ferry runs across the estuary to the pretty village of Shaldon and on Wednesday’s over the summer months, locals honour a local tradition called 1785 Day by dressing in period costumes, setting up craft stalls and putting on entertainment.
Just 4 miles inland, Newton Abbot has been a thriving market town since 1220 and features a variety of historic buildings including the 13th century Bradley Manor and Tucker’s Malthouse. Nearby, Decoy Country Park is a great spot for a picnic, thanks to a large play area with water play feature, a watersports lake, wildlife discovery centre and nature trails.

Great find and friendly owner with an impressive attention to detail! We felt very well looked after during our stay with our 6 month old daughter. Freshly baked brownies on arrival were a nice touch, as was breakfast delivered to the door.

Owner Profile
Before having our little boy Bryce, my husband Mark and I enjoyed treating ourselves to weekends away. Bed and breakfasts were always a favourite because of all the personal touches that make you feel special and you don’t always find in large hotels. Once Bryce was born we still wanted a break away but we soon discovered that finding somewhere suitable wasn’t that easy. That is the reason why we decided to open up our own bed and breakfast that caters for people like ourselves, parents with young children. Our aim is to provide a high standard of accommodation catering for the needs of the whole family and offering those little treats such as homemade cake and a full English breakfast that make you feel like you have had a break away. |
We offer a high standard of accommodation with the added benefit of space and privacy. The family suite is detached from the main house, with a downstairs bedroom and upstairs living/dining/kitchen area so once your little one goes to bed you can relax and put your feet up in the spacious living area and enjoy a home-made cake or two. If your little one is an early riser there is no need to worry as there are plenty of toys and books and a tv and dvd player to keep them entertained. With a range of cereals, bread and a fridge stocked with fresh milk, juice and preserves they can enjoy a continental breakfast at whatever time suits them, while you can enjoy a much needed cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate in the comfort of your own accommodation. Then Lyndsey will cook a full English breakfast for all the family and deliver it to your door, a perfect start to a day of exploring our beautiful part of the country.

With a range of toys, books and puzzles, a tv and dvd player, a playpen and other baby and toddler equipment we have tried to make sure children feel welcome and as comfortable as they do at home. Also with the flexibility of being able to enjoy breakfast at whatever time suits them and having the space and privacy of separate accommodation, children are free to follow their own routine without you worrying about them disturbing anyone else. Being close to the beach, Dartmoor and Exeter, there is lots of things to do to keep the whole family entertained whatever the weather.
