Families can expect a warm welcome at this funky B&B,
set just back from the seafront in increasingly cosmopolitan Eastbourne, not
least because its friendly owners have two tots themselves. Carl and Sarah
moved to the fabulously proportioned Regency terrace from London in 2009 and now have a young son and baby daughter.
Their insight into life with tots in tow is reflected in the handy list of baby
and toddler gear provided (see Fast facts) and in the design of the six
fabulously well-equipped guest suites, all of which have space for a
cot/toddler bed and several with double futons, as well as comfortable king-size
beds for grown-ups. Best of all, each suite has its own mini kitchen complete with fridge, hob, oven,
sink, microwave, kettle, toaster and pots and pans - perfect for making and storing
bottle feeds or cooking light meals.
As most parents will testify, being able
to knock up your own breakfasts and avoiding an early morning rush to herd
everyone into getting up, washed and dressed before traipsing into a communal
breakfast room, is a huge boost to relaxation in itself. Although, early risers
can take up the option of continental breakfast served downstairs if they
prefer.
Parents will also appreciate the little touches that make this award-winning B&B a cut
above the norm. The in-room TV/DVD players and free WiFi are handy for early
morning or pre-bed entertainment, whilst the hairdryer, fluffy white towels,
toiletries, selection of complimentary teas, coffees, biscuits, chocolates
and sweets in placed in each of the suites makes a stay feel a little more
indulgent. Plus, those who remember to bring their baby monitors can often enjoy a bit of downtime, perhaps a takeaway and a bottle of wine, in the communal dining room whilst little ones settle to sleep. However, its worth noting that only monitors with good range will be likely to work from suites on the top floors. The first floor suites should be fine.
Suite 2
Suite Two is set on the first floor. It offers great
family friendly accommodation with a kingsize double (can be twins), a comfy single sofa bed plus an optional pull-out single. It can therefore accommodate
families of four with the fold-out bed, but expect it to be a bit more
cosy then. The kitchen has a small round table and is great for for making up and storing feeds as well as sterilising, or
making snacks and light meals. The bathroom has a bath (baby bath available) with shower overhead. This
suite has some lovely Victorian features and great big windows with a
side sea view. There's a TV/DVD player, hairdryer, fluffy white
towels, toiletries and selection of complimentary teas, coffees, biscuits,
chocolates and sweets. This suite is within baby monitor range of the dining room so parents who bring their own listeners can have the option of enjoying some downtime in there, once little ones are settled.
Please note: The price is based on two adults and a child aged 0-5 years old.
Additional children can be added in using the options and extras sectin
when booking. Extra child aged 0-5 is charged £5 per night, children
aged 6-16 years old are charged £10 per night and it is £20 more for a
17+ year old sharing with 2 adults. Breakfast costs £9 for a cooked
breakfast for adults and £5 for children (under 12). Continental
breakfast are £5 per adult and £3.50 for under 12s., Please note that
on weekends and during bank holidays there is a 2 night minimum stay.

Eastbourne may once have been nicknamed 'Costa Geriatrica' but the growth
and popularity of the university has seen the elegant south coast town undergo
something of a renaissance with sophisticated nightlife, restaurants and
shopping becoming an increasingly common feature. Added to that, the huge
stretch of sand and shingle beach, Victorian pier with classic amusements and a
modern indoor fun pool, makes it a great spot for a good old fashioned British
break by the sea.
Guesthouse
East has a prime location within a short stroll of the beach, promenade, pier
and indoor fun pool, along with the tacky delights of Treasure Island - a must
for would-be pirates! One of the town's best regarded fish and chip shops is
just around the corner and, if babysitting has been pre-booked, a meal at the
Mirabelle bistro within the Grand Hotel comes highly recommended. For those
with the stamina, there are some fairly decent late night bars and clubs too;
Guesthouse East's owners recommend The Loft, Hudsons and Bibendum.
Further
afield, a great family day out can be had at highly regarded Drusilla's
Wildlife Park, which recently won best attraction in the South of England. Or
for a long lazy lunch, try the picture perfect Tiger Inn at East Dean, which
has had praised heaped on its food, setting and atmosphere by the likes of The
Times and Observer. the thatched pub sits on a village green, so there's plenty
of space to let little ones burn off steam whilst enjoying the food.
