Each boasts tasteful Scandinavian Country-chic influenced interiors and luxurious touches such as limestone-clad bathrooms and granite topped kitchens plus a scenic and tranquil setting nestling in their own private valley in the heart of Devon's sought-after South Hams region.
As well as a stunningly scenic setting, a short drive from Dartmouth and Conde Nast Traveller award-wining Blackpool Sands, the cottages with a private health club with large indoor heated pool, Klafs sauna and steam rooms, plus a kids soft play area and a sun deck with outdoor whirlpool offering truly beautiful inspiring views over the rolling hills, woodland and meadows of valley setting . There's also an outdoor pool (open in summer), all-weather tennis courts and beautifully hand carved wooden play area. All in all, Gitcombe is just as enchanting for kids as it is for adults - who could fail to have fun playing spot the moo cow across the valley whilst splashing about in the outdoor hot tub!
Meavy Barn sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms one double and one small twin, it's a stylish mid terrace barn with reverse level accommodation, light and airy vaulted ceilings and pale wood floors and underfloor heating. Open plan living, dining area, with cosy log burner and Juliet style balcony with stunning views over grounds and surrounding countryside. For quiet nights in there is a TV with freeview box, a DVD player and a CD player. There is also a Sleek, well equipped sleek kitchen area with granite work tops, stainless steel American style fridge/freezer, Miele dishwater, Miele washer-drier, microwave and Fisher Paykel oven and hob. Mezzanine area above, perfect as a grown ups’ or children’s den. Compact, stylish shower room, no bath in this property, but portable baby bath available. Patio accessed from double bedroom, with picnic table and bench and charcoal BBQ. Help yourself log and kindling wood store. Sleeps 4+ infant (2 if 1 x twin bed is unused)
PLEASE NOTE: In Meavy Barn, when a child is sharing a room with an infant, it is necessary to remove the mattress and slats from the second single bed and place the cot within the bed frame, due to space restrictions.

Gitcombe lies in Devon’s exclusive South Hams, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with beautiful coastline to the south and the wild landscape of Dartmoor National Park to the north. Blackpool Sand, voted Best Family Beach in Britain by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine is just a few minutes drive away and boasts a special toddler’s sandpit, paddling pool area and an award winning café/take away serving organic childrens meals.
Further afield are the glorious sandy beaches and coves of Salcombe, Hope Cove, Bigbury, with shallow shelving waters, ideal for paddling and little swimmers. May be take a ride on the sea tractor to Burgh Island with it’s unique Art Deco hotel (non residents not actively encouraged in the hotel). The nearby pretty waterside village of Dittisham on the River Dart, offers unbeatable crabbing opportunities, the perfect low cost activity to while away hours for little ones and parents alike. Then stop at the ever popular Anchorstone Café for a glass of wine and some local mussels whilst you watch the boats sail past. Also within a short drive is Pennywell Farm with its brilliant hands-on attractions. Don’t miss their adorable miniature pigs.
Venture up on to Dartmoor and see ponies and their adorable foals wandering freely and then head to the Miniature Pony Centre at Mortonhampstead, they have miniature donkeys too. There are two steam railways in the area to spoil the boys, one chuffs along the coast over at Kingswear and the other winds up river to Buckfastleigh. Woodlands leisure park has a vast indoor play zone for little one and more to amuse older children outside.
Nearby Dartmouth is a stylish little town, set on the
River Dart, with a long waterfront and lots of boats and waterside
activity to enjoy, not to mention chic art galleries, boutiques and
fabulous eating places. For relaxed fine dining try Angelique restaurant
now run by the Michelin star group 10 in 8 who run several restaurants
across the country including L'ortolan in Reading. Also worth noting is
the new Rockfish Grill owned by Mitch Tonks' group the owner of the
fabulously popular Seahorse restaurant, Rockfish Grill offers equally
popular more family orientated dining. For traditional fish and chips
why not try Rockfish takeaway in Bayards cove ( Dartmouth), perfect
enjoyed quayside in the summer whilst watching the boats float by. For a
gourmet treat they also offer takeaway lobster.
A little further afield, lies Salcombe, another chic waterside town. Riverford Field Kitchen, part of the Riverford group(who can deliver fresh organic food boxes to Gitcombe cottages), offers farm tours, sometimes tractor tours, to see how their organic vegetables are grown and then lunch in it’s fab Field Kitchen, with great food and canteen style tables and benches. The menu caters for meat eaters too. And for lovers of wine and cheese, don’t miss Sharpham Vineyard, at the forefront of wine making in the UK. Visit its winery for some great award winning white wines and the farm shop for divine Sharpham cheeses made at its own creamery. Then head for the Vineyard Café for more excellent food.
A big hit with guests in the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm which is right on Gitcombes doorstep and offers plenty of opportunity for stroking, patting and cuddling the animals.Past Guest Ratings: * (5 guests)

Tasteful decor. Beautiful location. Good equipment. Great, sturdy stair gates. Good to have microwavable plastic plates, beakers etc.
On arrival discovered Highchair had broken strap and travel cot was so old the thin mattress folds created 1inch ridges under child's back.
Found owner and got them replaced no problem.
Woodburner - can't use if staying with kids as no guard around it. Heating seemed warm enough tho (although it was a freak end of Sept heat wave when we stayed).
Lack of signage was a pain when arrive but understand don't want place to look garish.
Statues and sculptures around grounds look good.
Flowers on arrival a nice touch, would have preferred a pint if milk / welcome pack.
Nice and clean on arrival, except a few cobwebs (its the country!). Headboards of bed dusty round edges, need a Hoover.
Few bottles of Ren products dotted around. Lovely natural luxury products.
Wifi, great to have but slow in evening.
Good quality appliances include tv and audio equipment
Dimable lights and standard lamps create great atmosphere. Encourages you to hang about and enjoy the place - instead of driving 10-15 min to pub down single track lanes.
Mezzanine would be great for older kids to chill out away from parents. Board games and very comfy sofa.
Pool and play areas great for toddlers and children. Low quality travel cot and high chair mean not as expected for 1 year old.
Soft play area great and pool very nice. Warm poolside so nice when get out. Only one private shower/changing room at pool but not busy at end of Sepy so not a problem.
Could not get jacuzzi to work and sauna and steam rooms not on during the limited times advertised in the welcome book. Shame as considered that to be a justification of the higher weekly rate compared to other places in the area.
Steep slippery painted wood stairs. Great stair gates.
Bedrooms small but adequate. Spare room is cramped and was deeply disappointed to have to assemble travel cot ourselves - this involved stripping a bed, lifting off mattress and storing it on top of other spare bed, roll back bed slats and put travelcot inside bed frame. Not good after a long drive with kids in car! Had to use spare duvets to prevent a repeat of daughter hitting head when she sat up in cot. Also had to put blanket over bed slats for same reason. Really must be addressed. Not good enough. Will not recommend to anyone with kids under 5 for this reason.
Overall beautiful location and well furnished but cannot say it is a baby bolt hole due to lack of proper cot and having to assemble the travel cot yourself in very cramped almost dangerous conditions. Fantastic once kids can sleep in own bed and tackle steep hilly walks as play spaces mean you can relax and enjoy the grounds.

Lovely barns , well furbished and decorated, lovely gardens and swimming pool etc. Barns are noisy at night as the bedrooms are underneath and wooden floors so if your child doesn't sleep well I wouldn't recommend it plus the fridge / freezer buzzed above our heads.

Most disappointing. Property was dirty on arrival, we even had mice! Photos are misleading, the barn is not spacious and the site is far more steep-sided than it appears - a nightmare for toddlers. Hospitality and customer care sorely lacking.

We had a fabulous time at Gitcombe. It is great to be somewhere that is 'home from home'; so many places are old fashioned, pokey and down at heel - not at Gitcombe! The pool complex is magnificent which is so vital with children and the temperamental British climate.

Great for toddlers, swimming facilities amazing. Couldn’t get enough of pools,
hot tub and play area. 2. Great location to
visit, lots of beautiful places. Fav’ hotspots included beach…. short walk from
Start Point, train from Totnes and amazing, very tasty BBQ at the Maltsters’
Arms. We will definitely
return. Will be even better when kids are older. Thank you Gitcombe for your
hospitality and friendly welcome. To finish, I must quote my husband….”If I
could do a groundhog week, this would be it!

Great weather at Blackpool Sands, Crabbing for England at Dartmouth and Brixham. All huge fun and even relaxing in the gorgeous pool complex, a great bonus in the evenings. Evie left off her arm bands for the first time. A red letter visit!

We have stayed at Gitcombe on two occasions, and both times we have found it a lovely place to stay. Comfortable beds and a truly stunning location, and the afternoon session in the indoor pool ensured our son was out like a light every night!
