Nestling amongst majestic mountains and volcanic black sands pitted with vines, the four white-washed cottages and sparkling free-form pool of Finca Malvasia is an oasis of style and relaxation, heavily inspired by the work of acclaimed architect, Caesar Manrique. Interiors are a contemporary blend of rustic Canarian with funky Marimekko fabrics and mid-century modern classic furniture pieces.
The fact that Malvasia is owned and run by English ex-pats Tarna and Richard, who have a young son themselves, is reflected in the family friendly touches such as the toddler pool, smattering of toys and books and a handy baby paraphernalia rental service. The well-equipped kitchenettes (with electric hob, microwave with grill, fridge, kettle, and toaster) are a Godsend to young families. Whilst little extras like private gardens, Egyptian cotton sheets, TV's with DVD/CD players, complimentary wine, welcome pack and fluffy bathrobes ensure parents are well looked after too.
Papagayo - Apartment 2. - Stylish self–catering apartment consisting of volvanic lounges, kitchen, 2xdouble bedrooms both have volcanic stone en-suite bathrooms with showers. There are stunning views across the vineyard from the bedrooms and the private outdoor terrace looks out over the César Manrique style pool.

Thanks to the genuis-like foresight of home-grown architiect and local hero, Caesar Manrique, Lanzarote has almost totally avoided the excesses of its fellow Canary Islands. In fact, outside of the island's capital, you'd be hard pressed to find a building more than two storeys high and without a pretty white-washed exterior with Moorish influences.
The Finca enjoys a tranquil location in the with breathtaking views if the brooding and beautiful mountains that make up its stunning Timanfaya National Park. If you can tear yourself away from the funky cottages, glistening pool and yoga/massage hut, the nearest beach is just 10 minutes drive away and the location for surfing lessons given by owner, Richard. Horse-riding, golf and walking are also availabe locally. The nearby village of Tias has a farmers market every Saturday which is brilliant for picking up supplies of local cheese, fruit, vegetables and bread. For more standard supplies there are plenty of supermarkets within 5kms, and a good selection of restaurants within a few minutes drive. Richard and Tarna are mines of information on places to visit, shop, drink and eat - just ask!
Getting There: Lanzarote's Arrecife Airport is just 10kms away making Finca Malvasia a realtively cheap €15-20 taxi ride away or a short drive in a rental car (car hire is recommended). The owners can arrange for guests to be met and guided if driving a rental car from the airport.
A number of airlines offer direct flights from the UK to Arrecife. BFB recommends www.skyscanner.net as the best source of flights.
