Domaine de Malcintat is a beautifully renovated country estate featuring three self-contained residences each sharing a lovely outdoor pool (unheated), small playroom and three hectares of beautiful landscaped gardens. The estate boasts lovely views of rolling farmland and the Montagne Noir beyond, with the spectacular peaks of the Pyrenees rising to the south. It is just three kilometres outside the pretty village of Fanjeaux, 25 minutes drive from the famous walled city of Carcassonne, and 10 minutes from the picturesque medieval town of Mirepoix, with its market and restaurants.
The Olive House Apartment is a one bedroom apartment adjacent to the Olive House. It has a large open plan kitchen/sitting room with lovely views over the orchard and farmland, and the peaks of the Pyrenees. There is small bathroom with WC, basin and shower, and a double bedroom. Extra beds/cots can be added for children. Those renting the apartment have full use of the outside facilities, including the swimming pool, and there is a private terrace with a table and chairs by the orchard. BBQ available.
The very charming and well preserved medieval town of Mirepoix is just 10 minutes away by car and crammed with pretty shops, useful services (banks, pharmacies, doctors etc.) and family-friendly cafes (esp. wood-fired pizzas at Pizzeria la Maniguette) and bistros. A trip to the Monday morning market which fill the town square and the cathedral forecourt, is not to be missed, neither is the annual puppet festival, which takes place in the first week of August, or the Jazz festival in April.
Beach bums and water sports enthusiasts will enjoy the sand-fringed 600-hectare La Montbel (10-20mins drive), whilst the Mediterranean beaches can be reached in just over an hour. The incredible La Cité at Carcassonne is only a 25-minute drive away and, during the winter months, the family-friendly ski station of Mont d’Olmes about an hour away.
Food lovers should not miss the opportunity to book a babysitter and visit the restaurant at the nearby Abbaye-Chateau de Camon, which, although reasonably priced (approx 40Euros for 4-courses) is highly acclaimed and has seating in the wonderfully atmospheric cloisters in the summer. Also highly recommended is the restaurant at the vineyard of Domaine Gayda.
Nearest Medical Facilities: Doctor (English speaking) 10 mins, Hospital 20 minutes, Dentist 20 mins
Getting There: Flights - Carcassonne’s 'Salvaza' Airport is within 40-mins (served by Ryanair), Toulouse 'Blagnac' Airport is 1 hour away ( British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2.com & Flybe). By Rail: Take the Eurostar to either Paris or Lille and take the TGV to Toulouse. There is also a sleeper train from Paris to Carcassonne.

Owner Profile
Because the Malcintat is easy accessible and a perfect point of departure for experiencing the area in winter as in summer. We love the quiet evenings in our beatiful garden we appreciate so much and the sound of frogs and birds mixing with childrens play and laughter in the day!
|
Because they have the place to run and play, and swim and climbe and jump! And because there are plenty of nice places to go picnicing and bicycling in the area.
