It takes little more than that first view of Clydey Cottages to understand exactly why owners Dewi and Jacqui gave up high-flying careers in London's City to return to their roots and bring up their two young sons. The views, over meadows, hills and woodland, are truly spectacular and the picture perfect 18th century stone exteriors of these pretty farm cottages are utterly charming. Later comes the relaxed feeling of being able to let your little ones 'off the leash' and roam freely amongst 20 acres of beautiful grounds, by which time, most people are just about ready to move in full-time themselves!

Dewi and Jacqui ditched their briefcases in favour of tool belts and completely renovated the cluster of 10 cottages in mid 2006. The results are luxurious, comfortable and exceptionally well-equipped homes-from-home with interiors that are stylish, although leaning more towards sympathetic than contemporary. The newly added hot tub, indoor heated swimming pool, fitness suite and sundeck, with breathtaking views, ensure relaxation comes easily to parents, whilst mini guests adore getting involved with the farm thanks to the daily animal feeding and egg collecting rounds. If that doesn't wear them out, then being free to roam the almost traffic free grounds, well-equipped timber play area and indoor games room, along with swimming in the indoor pool, is sure to have the desired effect, which will allow parents to indulge in hampers of fresh, organic local breakfast and dinner menus for less than £10 a head.

Ivy is a romantic little one-bedroom cottage. Its charming period features like exposed wooden beams, thick stone walls, large inglenook fireplaces, and wood burning stoves, cleverly blend with contemporary colour schemes and luxury touches like IPod docks, flatscreen TVs and DVD players (in lounges and bedrooms). The open plan, fitted kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven, hob, fridge freezer and microwave. Upstairs, there is a large double bedroom with plenty of room for a cot, and stunning views over the front lawns, leading to the meadow and woodland beyond. The bathroom has a bath with power shower. Freeview is available in all cottages including the Cbeebies channel.

The cottages are nestled in 20 acres of grounds around four miles from the village of Boncath in unspoilt North Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park. The area is crammed with hidden coves and wide sandy beaches. Dolphins are often spotted in nearby Mwt, which is a peaceful sandy cove. Try Tresaith for its handy pub, with kids meals, overlooking the beach.

Eating & Drinking - The Nag's Head in Abercych (2.5miles away) has a great reputation for good food and ale, as well as having a lovely outdoor play area for kids. . Some of the region's best restaurants are also fairly close to the cottages. The Harbourmaster at Aberaeron, Penrhiwllan gastro-pub and Red Cow in Newcastle Emlyn, are all well worth arranging babysitting for, although the latter (run by BFB owners and parents) has a great early supper menu for junior diners with colouring sheets etc.

Days Out - Around 45mins drive away, Folly Farm is a brilliant wet weather day out thanks to its petting farm, tractor tours, indoor Victorian fun fair, soft play and huge adventure play zone, most of which are under cover. Don't miss a dolphin or seal spotting boat trip from Cardigan and the popular Victorian seaside resort of Tenby (near Folly Farm).

Shopping - Newcastle Emlyn around five miles from the cottages has a good selection of shops, banks, bistros, cafes and delis and a beauty salon offering a range of treatments. For lovely boutique shopping, art galleries and a ceramic painting cafe, visit the pretty town of Narbeth.. try to resist the chocolate factory tours nearby!

With two kids to occupy in the wet weather, Clydey has been perfect. Pool, Playroom, Swings and the Animals have all kept the little ones very busy. With the great advice of the staff we have also ventured out and visited some great places in the surrounding area. It's been three very hectic days, which is just what you need at half term. The rain has not held us back, but we are coming again to see Clydey in the sunshine ! It's a great location for a fab holiday !! Well done Dewi & Jacqui, you have got it just right !! We had a fantastic week with our 18mo son, the highlights were everything - the heated indoor swimming pool with woggles, floats and pool toys provided, the small but lovely sauna next to the pool, the games room, the soft play area which was so nice to have something dedicated to little children and comfty couches for mum and dad to relax, the outside hottub for a grown up dip (although kids are allowed in during school holidays) and best of all the daily animal feeding and egg collecting. We stayed in Lavender Cottage (sister cottage to Ivy) which was small but adequate for the three of us, the bedroom was a decent size even with the cot in. Good power shower and a nice bath. Shared BBQ's are available to use outside your cottage. Lots of other facilities including - washing machines/dryers, frozen meals from COOK, free eggs, toddler carrying backpacks, ride on toys, sand pit, playground etc.Local beaches of Poppit Sands and Mwnt are stunning -we saw dolphins swimming in the bay at Mwnt. Lovely restaurant about 40 mins drive away, Y Polyn, and you can book babysitters although it is expensive at £10ph. DVDs, board games and books can be borrowed from the Games Room so no need to really go out.All in all, a fantastic, friendly, relaxing break and we wouldn't hesitate to return

We had a really enjoyable holiday at clydey cottages, my 2yr old son loved the morning egg collection, and looking at the animals.The swimming pool was a perfect warm temp for my 4 month old to have his first swimming experience (no tears!) and for myself and my husband our late night hot tub was a memorable moment.We all wished we could stay longer, a real home from home.

Welcome, croeso, to our home – Clydey Cottages Pembrokeshire. We, The Davies Family, are Dewi, Jacqui, and our three children Tomos (8yrs), Dafydd (6yrs) and Catrin (2yrs). We knew we had found a special place as soon as we saw it and we know you’ll feel the same way. We’d like to share it with you. We very much look forward to welcoming you to Clydey Cottages Pembrokeshire in the near future.

“Life has certainly taken on a new meaning” says Dewi. “It’s about living in the here and now, not saving for retirement and yearning for the day when you can do what you want without the constraints of City work and life. We’ve worked hard over the last 6 years in building up the business and creating a special place that we ourselves would want to stay on holiday.” The ‘icing on the cake’ came in 2009, when Clydey Cottages won two awards in the Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards 2009 – Best Marketing Campaign and Best Self-Catering Accommodation. Since then they have won Best Place To Stay in Wales 2010, followed by Best Place To Stay Pembroekshire for 2011, Tripadvisor also presented them with a very rare Excellence Award in June 2011. The couple are obviously delighted at being rewarded for their hard work :- “We’re passionate about what we do – making sure that everyone who comes to Clydey Cottages, enjoys it so much that they also want a little piece of our dream – even if it’s only for a week or two.” “Seeing our children grow up with carefree freedom, plenty of space and outdoor life is confirmation that we definitely made the right decision – if we need confirmation that is. I can honestly say, there is nothing, absolutely nothing that I miss about our previous life.” says Jacqui dreamily as she sits on the bench outside the Farmhouse, listening to the birdsong and watching her young family run through the wild flower meadow outside – idyllic indeed.

From the moment children arrive, they look forward to days full of fun, frolics and fantastic memories. In the morning, children can join the 'Clydey Young Farmers Club' and help to feed the resident Kune Kune pigs - Iggle and Piggle; the sheep with their lambs; Shetland ponies; Noah the donkey; Zig & Zag the Pygmy Goats and the chickens - not forgetting to collect the freshly laid eggs and take them back to Mum and Dad for breakfast. After animal feeding, there is splashing around in the indoor heated pool to be done, before heading over to the adventure playground with climbing tower, slide, see-saw, rope swings and sand-pit. The 20 acres of grounds provide a safe environment for children to run around and roam freely, which means Mum and Dad can relax, knowing their little ones are not only happy and safe, but enjoying the fresh, outdoor Pembrokeshire air. At any time of day, the Games Room provides an indoor haven for Table Tennis, Table Football, Pool and Air Hockey as well as Board Games and DVD's to borrow and take back to your cottage for a fun-filled evening. Younger members of the family are not forgotten. There is the new, indoor soft play area, with comfy sofas for Mum and Dad to relax with a coffee and read magazines whilst the little ones play; the play-pen on the pool side to keep babies safe whilst Mum and Dad enjoy a relaxing swim; as well as the sand-pit, ride-on toys and baby swing.
