BFB's Overview

Stunning guest annexe, dramatically sleek with its black timber cladding and huge windows, is set apart from the owners 17thcentury wisteria clad farmhouse. In a setting about as idyllic as they come, there are 5-acres of land/fields (if animals aren't grazing there!) to explore, owners Chris and Kari have lavishly built and brand new special space to boutique interior design standards but, with toddlers themselves, haven't overlooked how to make the place welcoming and relaxing for frazzled parents with tots in tow.

The Westbrook Court guest suites all share a large, gravelled courtyard with far reaching views across the Wye Valley and upon request, a paddling pool can be borrowed to cool off and so everyone can make the most of warm summer days, overlooking the Wye Valley countryside. There are even four free ranging hens called Herietta, Maggie, Zebra and Boris to make friends with! Inside, and upon request, the owners provide early learning toys, books, and bath toys, plus free wi fi is available for digital natives to plug in laptops and check emails/update ipads! The wifi is in a rural setting, so patience on the average speed - welcome to the country!

The most fussy eaters will find plenty to tuck into on the weekday luxury hamper delivered straight to the suite door - enjoy a breakfast of patisseries or smoked salmon, hard boiled eggs, home baked breads and homemade preserves, jars of cereals, a selection of yogurts, fresh fruit and berries plus quality fruit juices. On weekends the hosts offer hearty home-cooked breakfasts in the beamed farmhouse dining room with local sausages, bacon and free range eggs. If a weekend lie-in is in order then the owners will deliver a breakfast hamper straight to your room. Even though Westbrook Court is a B&B, the owners also know there will always be favourite foods and essential supplies that families can't be without, so are quite happy to accept a Tesco/Sainsbury/Waitrose delivery.

Come bedtime, Westbrook Court has 5 large split level guest rooms (mezzanine bedrooms open to the sitting area overlooking their own sun decks and the guest courtyard with those amazing views. Four of the rooms have downstairs large bathrooms with roll top claw foot bath and separate showers. All rooms have space for a travel cot which can provided, along with stair gates for the stairs for the mezzanine suites. All guest suites are like a breath of fresh air in their uncluttered sophistication and finished off with personalised canvas art featuring scenes from around the picturesque grounds, vintage furnishings mixed with new contemporary pieces, white washed wooden floors and private morning sun decks so parents can soak up the boutique B&B experience.

Accommodation Overview - Room One
A dramatic king-sized four-poster in this airy, double-height room makes an occasion of sleeping here. The room’s monochrome chic is softened by blue tones, with a custom-made turquoise steel orb ceiling light, striking brick effect wallpaper, and vintage turquoise velvet armchairs in the sitting space. Like snoozing inside a well-appointed cloud! The room has a spacious ensuite shower room that is full of light, with a stylish aged-wood effect shower surround, wall-mounted basin and wc.

Location Information

Westbrook Court boasts a privileged countryside setting, just 5 minutes drive from the famous Literary Festival town of Hay on Wye, close to the stunning Golden Valley and wilder Brecon Beacons. Besides all the book shops, antique shops, galleries and boutiques, Hay has an excellent market on Thursdays and a full range of cafes, pubs and bistros for eating out.

There area has plenty of petting farms, play barns and buggy-friendly riverside walks to lovely picnic spots and the owners of Westbrook Court will be happy to put together a hamper on request. Big, Canadian-style canoes can also be hired at various locations on the River Wye, such as the beautiful Symonds Yat, with its traditional hand ferry, so families can embark on the ultimate Swallows and Amazons adventure.

To the North of Hay, against the backdrop of the Black Mountains, The Golden Valley is renowned for its stunning scenery including swathes of spring daffodils, fields of summer crops and a blaze of autumn colours which make its ancient name particularly apt. Who owns this place?

What do they love about it?

What we love about this place is the historic charm, and that every window has a completely different view. Although we have refurbished we've retained the beams, flagstones and Jacobean style oak flooring so the house still feels old, but with a modern twist. We love the local sense of community around Hay on Wye and Dorstone, with regular family fairs and country shows. We love our views over the Wye Valley.

What do the kids love about it?

What kids love about this place is that the garden is a great size for running around in, there is lots of nature to explore, bugs and snails and butterflies and bumblebees. Up in the sky we see buzzards, red kites and sometimes sparrowhawks. We graze sheep and cows on our fields, so kids love looking at the animals.
