BFB's Overview

For larger groups these two coastal retreats prove the perfect solution. Each nestled in their own spacious grounds against a backdrop of rolling fields just a short walk from the golden sands and clear waters of Harlyn Bay, the properties can be rented together to provide accommodation for groups of up to 21 plus infants in contemporart comfort. Thoughtfully finished with families in mind the owner ensures the properties are stylish yet practical. There's a thoughtful supply of baby gear, play equipment and child friendly features while the spacious living areas indoors and out provide plenty of space for groups to come together, relax and enjoy a memorable holiday together.

On arrival the tranquiil setting will put families instantly at ease. Days will drift by effortlessly as guests adapt to the laid back pace of village life. Families can start with leisurely breakfast inside or out, soaking up the views before packing up and heading down to beach for a day in the sun, a spring picnic or bracing winter walk. Guests can return home to a warming hot chocolate in front of the log burner, sunset BBQ or camp fire style treat with smores over the fire pit. Little ones will drift off to sleep, exhausted after a busy day adventuring while parents are left to enjoy the sunset and clear starry skies over a glass of wine.

Trelawney and Tregea are both special places where the whole family can get together, relax and have fun.

Accommodation Overview

Trelawney sleeps 8-9 + infants in four bedrooms. Tregea sleeps 10-12 + infants in five bedrooms. The houses are detached properties in their own grounds with neighboring plots. Details on each house can be found below.

Trelawney:

Bedroom 1 – Located upstairs with a super-king size double bed (zip link so can be made up as twin bedroom) and en-suite shower room. This room has double door leading to a balcony with sea views.

Bedroom 2 – Again located upstairs with a super king size bed (zip link so can be made up as a twin bedroom) and en-suite bathroom with large square bath and separate shower.

Bedroom 3 – Located downstairs at the front of the house, this bedroom has sea views and a super king size bed (again can be made up as two singles). This room has an en-suite shower room.

Bedroom 4 – This spacious room is located at the back of the house and contains a super king size bed (can be made up as twin beds) plus a further two single beds. It works well as a family room. It has a TV and direct access to a sun trap patio. This room has an adjoining shower room.

The real show stopping feature of this house is the open plan living area which has incredible views over Harlyn and the surrounding bays. There’s a stylish seating area with wood burner for colder months, a fully equipped kitchen (two ovens, microwave, dishwasher, Nespresso, fridge and freeze) and elegant dining area. The panoramic bi-fold doors lead out into the large private garden complete with fire pit and outdoor seating (an outdoor table tennis table is also available). The gardens wraps round the house and to the rear there is a second patio area and outdoor shower. The garden shed is stocked with handy bits for the beach including wetsuits, body boards, games and beach chairs.

The house has been thoughtfully kitted out to ensure a ‘home from home’ feel. There are large HD TVs, Sky, unlimited Wi-Fi access, a Sonos speaker, high quality bed linen, towels and more. The house also has parking for 4 cars.

Tregea:

This house sleeps 12 (excluding cots) in five bedrooms. Two bedrooms have super-king size beds and comfortable reading spaces, one is a king size room and two rooms each have three single beds in them, one being a designated “kids” room with bunks and a single bed, the other being more flexible (two of the singles can come together as a double). There are 5 bathrooms in all including 3 ensuite plus a fabulous wet room where you can hose down and shower after a day at the beach. Tregea boasts a large open-plan living/dining area and a conservatory with spectacular sea views. There is a triple garage stocked with handy bits of the beach, a surf store and ample parking for four or five cars.

Outside there is a 1.2 acre garden which is totally private with lovely wooden furniture, a BBQ, large trampoline, football posts, small orchard with a rope swing and rope ladder, and many other delightful features.

Location Information

When venturing out, there’s plenty of the doorstep. Harlyn Bay is under ten minutes’ walk, although the owner does offer a parking pass to guests should they find it easier to whizz down in the car (a minutes’ drive) with all the beach bits. Active families can visit the local surf school and try their luck at surfing, paddle boarding or even kayaking. Despite it’s rural location the house is a short walk from the local village of St Merryn which has a great selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. There’s even an award winning fish and chip shop for a traditional seaside supper. If you want more choice, a multitude of restaurants can be found in Padstow which is just a few miles away.

Rain needn’t mar a stay at Trelawney as there are plenty of indoor attractions within easy reach including the Eden project with its toddler-friendly land train, or Crealy Adventure Park which has a petting farm and a play zone specifically aimed at under 5s. Activities from golf and horse-riding to sea fishing, kayaking and kite-surfing can also be arranged nearby. For a special night out, be sure to get organised and pre-book babysitting and a table at one of the many fabulous restaurants nearby. Highly recommended are Rick Stein's St. Petroc's, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, Michelin-Starred St Ervan Manor or, Good Food Guide Restaurant of the year, 'No.6' in Padstow.

Who owns this place?

Tregea and Trelawney are coastal retreats belonging to a London family who spend term time living just off the Kings Road in Chelsea and like nothing more than getting away from it all when the three children have holidays from school! They fell in love with this part of Cornwall when they visited their friend's home in nearby Trevone eleven years ago. By the time they left, they had found Tregea and by the end of that Summer they were the proud owners of this beautiful home with its' stunning garden and glorious views. Suzanne undertook a huge refurbishment job which took almost eighteen months and then the fun began!!! Their children are now 14,12 and 10 and they all love their home from home in Harlyn Bay :-)...they continue to upgrade it constantly and it is home to their children's favourite toys from over the years, all of which are there for BFBH families! The playroom is a beloved spot of all guests as it keeps the children busy no matter what the weather! Trelawney was added to the portfolio in 2016 and was a project undertaken by Suzanne from start to finish - it sits in a plot next door to Tregea and enjoys the same phenomenal views and set up!

Cousins in Cornwall

What do they love about it?

They love it because it is spacious, TOTALLY different to their London home, because there is fresh air, there are stunning views, comfortable beds and because each and every time they arrive there, they feel their shoulders relaxing, their breathing slowing down and they feel the chance to enjoy life approaching again :-). They love it because tracksuits and wellies are the order of the day, because they can STILL enjoy the glorious food which they have also been spoiled with in London in many of the local restaurants, they love it because their children play all day and sleep all night and because there is nowhere else like it in the world...

What do the kids love about it?

They love the space, the garden, the surfing lessons, being with their friends, they love having lunch out on the deck, watching for the rabbits in the evening on the lawn, they love rock pooling, the bunkbeds, they love all snuggling on the huge beanbag together to watch a movie, they love the wetroom (much better than boring baths at home apparently!!), the table tennis table, table football, playing football on the lawn with the "proper" football goals (according to Finn, age 8!!), they love combing the garden to make petal perfume, catching butterflies with their nets, icecream on the beach - what is not to love - it is children's paradise....

  • We had everything we needed and more; the girls were beyond thrilled with the selection of toys and the grown ups all agreed we could have quite happily sat on the decking, drinking in the incredible views and many bottles of prosecco, for the entire holiday... I opted for trampolining with the three year old over the treadmill to work off all the butter, fudge and the Cornish Arms' crab linguine.Review dated 04/07/2016

  • Another wonderful week at this gorgeous house, we had such a lovely week and despite the weather not being great... we really really enjoyed ourselves and are very sad to be back home. We enjoyed ourselves so much we thinking are about staying two weeks next year.Review dated 17/08/2010

  • An absolutely amazing place, beautifully decorated and so much for our little boy Joe to do that he didn't want to leave. The conservatory with toys was brilliant along with the garden and garage, we just kept discovering more and more for Joe to play with. We were fortunate enough to have reasonable weather so we were in the garden loads and we obviously visited the beach quite a lot. The kitchen is brilliant with lots of gadgets so it was great to stay in and do some cooking and give ourselves a break from Rick Stein's many restaurants.Review dated 16/07/2010

  • I stayed at Harlyn Bay Cottage:in April this year- we had high hopes given the info on BFB and Tregea way exceeded our expectations- it is really stylish and very comfortable - fab for the children (3 very little ones in our party) and there's perfect beaches and brilliant restaurants all close by- we're aiming to head back asap!
